  • Here it is! Something we have been wanting to do for years finally happens, strap in as we take you on a comprehensive tour of the Shimanami Kaido. This is going to be quite the challenge as we are both by no means professional cyclists, probably going on our bikes back home a couple of times a year! We take a 50 mile adventure across 6 islands and 6 huge bridges (the last one being one of the longest suspension bridges in the world, wow!) and see some breathtaking views and pass through some sublime scenery. It doesn't all go to plan but there was always going to be some problems riding 50 miles on a bike in one day! Let us show you why it got it's name as Japan's most famous, AND most beautiful cycling route!

    im glad u had a great time on the kaido. thx for sharing ur vid. i did have a lil chuckle at the start of the vid when u said it was impossible to get lost as i know how untrue that is :P every island has a circumnavigation of the island with a blue line too, so very easy and often ppl go the wrong way so dont feel bad. there are many bike shops in onomichi with a lot of them allowing multiple day hiring of e-bikes. the place u rented from in the car park do not have that option so it does add a lil bit of anxiety with regard to getting back in time. :)

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  4 месяца назад +1

      Haha yes we did not realise how easy we could get lost! Glad it’s not just us then haha. Yes I think if we ever did it again we would definitely get the bike for a couple of days so we wouldn’t have to rush and could take it in more. Still one of the best days of our entire trip! Thanks for your comment 😊

    I went to Onomichi and Shimanami Kaido last year. We went around islands by car though, your videos makes me go there by bike. It reminded me of the idyllic Seto Inland Sea scenery. Thank you.

    Very informative video! and such beautiful shots!
    btw, how much is the deposit for the e-bike that you will forfeit if you choose to return the bike at the end points (so not at the starting point where you first rented them)?

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much for your kind comment! If I remember correctly the deposit worked out at around £20 per person but we would probably not advise doing it this way as it's not guaranteed the drop off's at the other end will take the bikes. We made a mistake and luckily it worked out 😊

    Great video, really got me looking forward to my trip in November. I’ve got a couple of questions if you don’t mind; how did you mount the camera to your bike and how did you manage to make the battery last for the whole day?

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching it was perhaps our favourite day of the whole trip! With regards to the camera we used a DJI Pocket 2 and mounted it by tying it to the front bike basket with 2 of Jessica’s bobbles (hair ties), don’t ask me how it managed to stay on but somehow it did! For the battery we had a powerbank to give it some extra charge halfway through our ride.

    Thank you for this video showing great detail of the ride. We are thinking of doing it and know we'd need e-bikes to manage it. It seems it was quite strenuous even with the electric assist. Now I'm thinking we should rent mopeds to be sure we'd make it all the way in a day. Do you know if mopeds were available for rent?

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Debbie! Thanks so much for watching 😊 I didn't see any mopeds at the rental we used, and I've just checked the website and it doesn't seem to have any. They definitely have e-bikes though! Or perhaps there are other rental places in Onomichi! Good luck and have an amazing trip - you will love it I'm sure! 😊

      Thank you so much for watching! I was so pleased we managed the whole route - my legs felt it the next day though haha. Of course, our camera is the DJI Pocket Mini 2, we love it! It's so small and compact 💖

    Are the E-bikes any good?

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  11 месяцев назад +4

      Hi Sam! We got the electric assist bikes, (not a full e-bike) which we really liked and thought we’re great! We did see a lot of people on E-bikes too and they looked good, and would be much easier to get up the hills on, though more expensive to hire. 😊
