    im glad u had a great time on the kaido. thx for sharing ur vid. i did have a lil chuckle at the start of the vid when u said it was impossible to get lost as i know how untrue that is :P every island has a circumnavigation of the island with a blue line too, so very easy and often ppl go the wrong way so dont feel bad. there are many bike shops in onomichi with a lot of them allowing multiple day hiring of e-bikes. the place u rented from in the car park do not have that option so it does add a lil bit of anxiety with regard to getting back in time. :)

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  9 месяцев назад +2

      Haha yes we did not realise how easy we could get lost! Glad it’s not just us then haha. Yes I think if we ever did it again we would definitely get the bike for a couple of days so we wouldn’t have to rush and could take it in more. Still one of the best days of our entire trip! Thanks for your comment 😊

    Very informative video! and such beautiful shots!
    btw, how much is the deposit for the e-bike that you will forfeit if you choose to return the bike at the end points (so not at the starting point where you first rented them)?

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much for your kind comment! If I remember correctly the deposit worked out at around £20 per person but we would probably not advise doing it this way as it's not guaranteed the drop off's at the other end will take the bikes. We made a mistake and luckily it worked out 😊

    Amazing video. I’m looking to doing something very similar to what you guys did. Unfortunately, I only have a few days I can dedicate to Hiroshima. Would you recommend we do this ride for a whole day or instead visit miyajima? Saw that you did both! I unfortunately can only do one.

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  2 месяца назад +1

      @@jessicango8572 Jay here, personally I would say the fulfilment and excitement you get from doing the Shimanami Kaido outweighs the experience of Miyajima, although that is a great choice. If you can’t dedicate the full day to the Kaido you can always hit a few of the bridges and catch one of the boats back to the start. I often dream about doing it again so…maybe you guys can do it for me! 😊🚴‍♂️🤟

I talked to my partner and we adjusted our schedule so we could dedicate two days to this route so we can explore the islands! we are giving up miyajima, but after watching your videos and researching - I think we made the right choice! unfortunately there is no e-bikes available for our dates (end of oct) for reservation. how early did you get to the rental place - 7:30amish? was it busy?

    Great video, really got me looking forward to my trip in November. I’ve got a couple of questions if you don’t mind; how did you mount the camera to your bike and how did you manage to make the battery last for the whole day?

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching it was perhaps our favourite day of the whole trip! With regards to the camera we used a DJI Pocket 2 and mounted it by tying it to the front bike basket with 2 of Jessica’s bobbles (hair ties), don’t ask me how it managed to stay on but somehow it did! For the battery we had a powerbank to give it some extra charge halfway through our ride.

  • @debbie1247
    @debbie1247 Год назад +2

    Thank you for this video showing great detail of the ride. We are thinking of doing it and know we'd need e-bikes to manage it. It seems it was quite strenuous even with the electric assist. Now I'm thinking we should rent mopeds to be sure we'd make it all the way in a day. Do you know if mopeds were available for rent?

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  Год назад +2

      Hi Debbie! Thanks so much for watching 😊 I didn't see any mopeds at the rental we used, and I've just checked the website and it doesn't seem to have any. They definitely have e-bikes though! Or perhaps there are other rental places in Onomichi! Good luck and have an amazing trip - you will love it I'm sure! 😊

    Did the electric assist bike help and make it easier to go up the hill to the bridges? Would love to do this with my gf, but she has a hard time going up hill with a normal bike. I don’t think she can do it. That’s why I’m looking at electric assist bikes. Any advice is appreciated

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  4 месяца назад +1

      We definitely found that the electric assist bikes helped a lot, but we would personally say it is still fairly strenuous! They give you a bit of a push up hills but you are still pedalling if that makes sense! I think we would have really struggled with a ‘regular’ bike! We would definitely recommend electric assist. There is an e-bike option at the bike rental we used which could be a good option too? But take lots of breaks and snacks and you will be golden!

    • @jessandjay
      @jessandjay  Год назад +4

      Hi Sam! We got the electric assist bikes, (not a full e-bike) which we really liked and thought we’re great! We did see a lot of people on E-bikes too and they looked good, and would be much easier to get up the hills on, though more expensive to hire. 😊
