Thank you for all the videos! Also a federal civilian about to TCS in 2 months to Sagamihara Japan. Did you have to deal with Camp Zama housing…? They are telling me I have to go through their in person training before I can sign a lease. And that I can’t use my TQSA and LQA for the same location… I am in contact with a furnished Airbnb in Sagamihara, but Camp Zama housing says I am not allowed to book it for 30 days TQSA if I want to live there on a lease after and they are saying I can’t sign the lease till I go through their training. Anyway I think they are confusing me with someone who has their duty station at Zama and is active duty… but wanted to see if you had a similar situation arise.
Hi, thanks and I'm glad the videos are helpful. And no, I don't think they are confusing you with anyone else. This is the way things go. TQSA and LQA money have to be separate with tons of rules on how they can and can't be spent. So while I'm not an expert on the rules, what they are saying sounds about right. Not using the two funds for the same location sounds like the kind of red tape these funds would have wrapped around them. And yes, not being able to the lease before getting the housing offices' training is a rule I encountered and I think is common place. It's a pain, and not always beneficial to the person receiving the money, but ya, this is the way it is. My only advice is to just try and work with the housing and try to get them to tell you the best way to make this lease happen. Good luck!
@@jimkendall3868 did you find your rental while in country? Or before you arrived? Did you use the camp Zama off-post housing list? Or your own realtor?
I found my rental after I got here and got out of ROM. I used Atsugi's housing office to see available properties and got connected with a couple of Realtors.
Great video. My goal is to work in Japan for DOD after I retire from the VA. Appreciate your knowledge and experience.
You are a lifesaver ma'am! I'm headed to Japan, also! Your videos have helped immensely!
