- Ladies and gentlemen welcome to your first look at Wiesbaden Germany! This video will go over the Wiesbaden US military army base, to include a windshield bus tour of Hainerberg, Aukamm, Crestview, Clay Kaserne, and Newman Village.
Correction: The "North Clay" base I mention is actually Mainz Kastel. This is where you pick up your POV when you first arrive.

I lived in Hainerberg from 1987 to 1989 and went to elementary school there (My dad was a US army Captain stationed thee, my mom is German). Good times!
I used to work at Wiesbaden Army Lodging, loved it.
The old American Arms (near downtown) had a certain charm that the Hainerberg Army Lodging lacked. I was one of the very last people to stay at the American Arms around 2011, as a DoD civvie arriving for my 5-year tour in Wiesbaden.
lived in Hainerberg for 2 years in the late 80s. the abandoned strip mall was the old BX, PIZZA PLACE AND AUDIO STEREO STORE. The movie house in the parking lot was the TAUNUS movie house and i saw TOP GUN there in 1986 . there was a baked potato stand that sold the best tasting potatoes, A BOOK STORE ,AND the American Express bank.
Top gun in 86! Classic 😊
We were stationed there for 3 years! it was beautiful! My four kids were small and loved it
The little Italy restaurant is worth going to
Was stationed in the Army at Warner Barracks in Bamberg Germany, from 1987-1992. What an awesome duty station.
Went to middle and high school in Wiesbaden. Lived on Finthen Army Airfield, which has been turned back over to the German government. Went to elementary in Mainz. Lived there from 83-92.
Huge thanks. Great info. Hope to see you soon
Just when I need a video! Perfect timing
Spider senses... ;)
Another great video Fam
Thanks for always watching!
I was stationed in Fulda 92-94 then spent a year at Weisbaden Army Air Base. I remember that strip mall full of shops and a car dealership.
I lived in hienaburg thanks for the video. We would sled down the hill in front of the commissary. I was a bag boy thier. That abandoned building was where all the shops where. I went to that theater every week. Thank you.
Thank you very much for the information!
I'm going to Wiesbaden next month.
You're gonna love it!
Do a video on DoD civilian living options
Unsure now, but k-town(mainz kastel) used to have a awesome shopping area. Place to go back in the 80's.
We lived in Crestview 1988-1991. Still can locate our building on google maps. I would love to visit Weisbaden again.
Wow! Thank you for this awesome video, my father was a civilian (GS) assigned to Worms Germany from 81 to 88 where i went to High School in Mannheim. GO Bison "85!!!" So i was wondering if one day you can drive down to Worms Germany & walk the old Takkunen Barracks & Thomas Jefferson Village (TJV), These areas are now closed and reclaimed by Germany.. I would love a memory jolt if you should happen to find yourself in the area of Worms Germany. Its about 35 to 40 Kilometers South of Wiesbaden, because every 2 weekends a month we'd drive up to Mainz (for the huge awesome Audio shop they had in the 80s), then drive to the Wiesbaden PX bcuz there was a Godfathers Pizza there!!! Ah.... the good ole'days!!!
Lol I was stationed at Lee Barracks, Mainz 1974 to 1977.. We would all go to Wiesbaden because they had the large commissary and a huge selection of Electronics. I bought mostly the top of the line stereo equipment. thru time it all became obsolete except for the 110 watt Altech speaker I still have.
Fantastic! We loved this video so much!!! Thank you 😁 any neighborhood recommendations for civilians? The facilities are incredible. We are so excited!!
Thanks for watching! Congrats on your new assignment :) I don't know too many neighborhoods outside of this area, but honestly the closer you are to downtown the better in my opinion. There's a lot to do in the city and you're super close to base, many airports, as well as the train station (that can take you anywhere in Europe). Maybe check with this civilian FB group in Wiesbaden for advice: facebook.com/groups/516236829299114/
Thank you so much!
I remember as a kid in the mid to late 80's
the now abandoned strip mall that is near the theater was the heart and soul of everyday life back in the day! Lived across the street from Hainerberg elementary school and a few years later lived in Crestview. Enjoyed the video and thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Oh wow! Things have definitely changed! Thanks for the insight 😊
@@DTVDanielTelevision watching the video felt like an alternate universe familiar but different.
37 years will do that!
I have a question does the elementary school still have EAST the dog as the mascot? he was a Dutch hound.
In the 80's we used to walk down for lunch when I was in middle and high school or if there was a bomb threat. Shocked to see the theater still there. I saw a lot of great movies there and at Lee Barracks.
Interesting. As a German living in OZ for most of his life, it's great to see how Americans live in my Country while stationed there. But there were no people around in the housing districts, nor did I see any kids running around...why ??
Thanks for sharing, can you do a video for military retirees? Places they can still visit after their bases have closed.
Thanks for watching. Sounds like a solid video idea. I’ll see what I can do 👍🏾
Your making want to re-enlist for Germany for my 1st re-enlistment
Hehe, the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden actually is relatively new. Built in the 19th century it was however based on the Neogothic architecture style. So compared to several other cathedrals and churches in Germany it's still a kid, bordering on just becoming a teen.
That’s a great aviation unit- spend about half your time in the field at CTC’s
i worked there for 10 years as a cabelguy for TKS.... in all that areas... XD ... met alot of nice people..... :)
wouldt love to see some of theme again XD
I was stationed there twice, 1976-1981 and 2001-2004.
Wow me too. Jun 2001-sep 2005
@DTV: Daniel Television, what’s the name of the song in the background?
I was wondering if you know the measurements of the shrunks that are issued for hanging clothes?
Wow, amazing!! Loved the airfield there. I couldn’t be stationed anywhere else. Was just beautiful. Never lived on base though, barracks were trash. Lived off base
This used to be part of a bigger military Community back of the days when they had the Fulda Gap to which soldiers patrol Grenzübergang Bebra Gerstungen & Herleshausen Wartha monitoring Russian Intelligence Officers East German military and Russian army 8th shock army
Looks pretty decent what do you think? The main language is english I guess? I am german, but do enjoy the english atmosphere and language a lot (at least in australia). I am currently in my Fire rescue training in the bundeswehr, this place might me something for me
Hello! Do you have any videos that compare bases/ cities. Specifically for me it's Wiesbaden vs Kaiserslautern Thank you!
Wiesbaden is better
What can you say the big difference and pros and cons better Wiesbaden, Kaiserslautern and Stuggart? I watched your other videos as well. I'm curious how they are. I have 3 offers from all 3 places. Thank you!
Ouu lots to say about this one. I'd have to do a whole video that explains the differences, but it comes down to your personal preferences. For me, I would choose Wiesbaden because of how close it is to the airport (we love to travel), and it's not as congested as "lil America" in Kaiserslautern, nor does it have as much traffic as Stuttgart. Stuttgart is very spread out and basically located within a huge city with many highways, speed traps, and construction. But there are advantages to living there. K-Town doesn't really feel like living in Germany (to me) because of all the American amenities, but on the flip side, you'll find all types of various foods, shopping, and right outside of the city there's lots of hiking, castles, and fun day trips!
i lived there for 4 years back in 2005 / 2009 while in the army... such a beautiful experience and so many good memories. too bad the PX and the commissary where in different places, like miles apart!
Wiesbaden looks nice
if you were in high school in the earlier days, like 1977 and earlier, you would have graduated from the Kurhaus
2/20 Field Artillery HHC - Brigade 76
I lived in Aukumn Housing in 1989-1992 I was a sub teacher at Aukumn Elementary School and my daughters were in Kindergarten and First grade at the same school. I loved living in Aukumn and Hainerberg has definitely changed.
Went to Weisbaden high school 85
Are u in duisburg
As a German Wiesbadener I love to see, how it looks like behind those fences! It is not possible in any way to shop at that commisary or hit that gym, right? :(
Unfortunately not Mr Ron Swanson 😉Unless you have an ID card holder that sponsors you on and “pays” for your groceries at the commissary.
@@DTVDanielTelevision Damn! I love shopping groceries in the US.
American Arms Hotel used to have the best brunch
What mos get sent to Germany?
i just enlisted for 13F and i’m being sent to germany
Is there a hospital there? When my ex-husband and I were stationed in Frankfurt in 1974-77 we had access to the 97th General Hospital and that's also where I worked. We had the intensive care nursery for the European command and the middle east. I worked in the Orthopedic Clinic and I believe the 97th was the Ortho hospital for the European command as well. My ex worked at AFN as a master control operator. The 97th and AFN are long gone in fact I don't know if there is any American military left in Frankfurt. That was a wonderful time in my life and an experience I will never forget. Thanks for letting me reminisce! I asked you in a previous post about the bratwurst/brochen stands because there used to be one right across the street from the AFN building.
Lindsy afb was at Wiesbaden, one of the best hospitals in germany.
You missed katterbach kaserne. That’s where I was stationed. But you probably missed it because there’s nothing there. Hahah
😮😊😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉
The single soldier discrimination is real. Glad I never enlisted
Come to Sweden instead😉😅
Unsure now, but k-town(mainz kastel) used to have a awesome shopping area. Place to go back in the 80's.
They closed most shopping in Mainz Kastel and consolidated it in the new PX they built. Ironically the new PX is way smaller than all the old separate shops they had in Mainz Kastel.
