I think it's about a relationship that's broken down, where the singer still loves the person, but because of the "mistake" (maybe a fight that went too far?) the person they love no longer loves them ("you're still so distant"). The singer can't get over losing this person and hopes in the future the person they love will return to them.
I think the "even though you're close to me you're still so distant" means they're close in physical proximity but distant emotionally.
That's just my opinion

Even though I like/ don't mind the Re:Animated version of this song I still prefer this original. The way Chester sings the Bridge in this version is better than the re-animated version.
