All the car videos I watch on here, never seen one from where I live lol I instantly recognized where you were. I’ve been on the fence with picking one of this up but after watching your video I think I’m going to pull the trigger! Nice video

I came for a car review and ended up getting a lecture on stick shifts fading popularity - and I am here for every minute of it! It really is sad that manual transmission vehicles are becoming so rare. My first car ever was an 01 Hyundai Tiburon 5 speed manual. I didn't even know how to drive stick when I got and learned in that car. I loved it and have missed having a stick shift with every car I've had since. Thinking about getting a manual Cruze, which is how I ended up here.
And PS, I love your idea of a retirement gift. I might just do the same now!

I have one. Cool pov video!
    1. I'm sure the electronic throttle & ignition controls are programmed to assist takeoff when you release the clutch. Otherwise, it would be very easy to stall this.
    2. I drive for economy, usually. Carefully driven, gives over 40 mpg in moderate / suburban and highway traffic, averaged over a full tank of gas. 400-plus mile cruising range. Engine seems to give full torque around 2200 rpm, enough for normal cruising & city acceleration by around 1500 rpm. That doesn't mean I mat the throttle at 2200, I let it wind out a bit more, say to 2800 or so.
    3. Trans is not really sporty, is a cable linkage, with somewhat rubbery feel and I don't try to hurry it. A change to high-quality synthetic trans oil helped a lot. You drove it kindly, the way I do, although I don't usually rev it out that much. 1-2 always takes a lot of time. I find this car to be less interesting to 'hurry' than my '01 Sentra 1.8 5 speed that was my prior car. That car had a metal rod shift linkage and closer-ratio transmission and no turbo. On the other hand, this thing is quiet and happy on fast interstates, easy to go 80 mph w/o a sweat, while Sentra's 5th gear was too short for that.
3 1/2. A big plus for this - the back seat has enough room for normal-largish size adults, the car fits 4 comfortably.
    4. Downside is, they were less than bulletproof. Clutch slave cylinder was a problem, reportedly a manufacturing defect although one fellow (on cruzetalk) needed it done twice. Is integral with the release bearing & requires dropping the transmission. I've had it done once, at around 21,000 miles & it's now at 32,000. No help from GM in fact they screwed me charging a partial fee even though it was under warranty. Cracked pistons also, low-speed preignition due reportedly to oil additives, the spec for which has been updated. The pistons usually but not always go early, owners report. There was an updated ECU flash but they don't do it routinely, they do it if they had to replace the pistons. I'm running high octane fuel in part for this reason, and also as a high-compression turbocharged engine, it just needs more octane for best power & drivability especially in the summer with hot temps and a/c. Also careful not to mat the throttle under around 3000 rpm

Just filled the tank today, forgot exact # but over 510 miles on that tank. Dividing gallons into Trip A, 44.9 mpg, maybe 43.5 after correcting for odo error. The DIC display for last 450 miles said 47 mpg, so pretty close. Mine is a hatch, the sedans should do a little better on an =/= basis. This was trips of 10-30 miles, not a steady road trip.

Another tank, 510 miles, 47 mpg true mpg (actual miles/actual gallons)

I always find it amusing you young guys driving these fantastic modern cars and not thinking very much of them.Well I will tell you to try to drive something like a 1983 Plymouth Turismo,or something from that era,and you would say what a bucket of bolts. Its loud, raspy, rattles, and the shifter is like a long rod on a sponge. The average modern car is equal to what would have been a premium European sports sedan years ago!

6:02 I feel like something like this would be worth more in the future BECAUSE it’s a manual. I hope not though. Let’s keep it this way so the anti-manual drivers don’t jack up the prices.
