Good evening sir, Today’s motivational quote is “Use your smile to change the world, don’t let the world change your smile.” Editorial is related to the latest collection of Goods and Services Tax (GST). In my opinion: - Goods and Services Tax (GST), which was implemented in the year 2017, has experienced a sharp recovery in the month of December 2022. However, the recovery did not surpass/cross the previous level which was experienced three years ago. The sharp recovery will give hope to the State governments to receive the revenue that had been promised by the Central Government while implementing it. There can be no denying that the collection of the GST totally depends upon the growth of core sectors. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was seen that most of core sectors of Indian economy were in deep crisis except agriculture so question arises that which type of actions have been taken by the current regime to enhance the growth of these sectors. Government’s mandarins often say that they are working on it and issues will be resolved shortly but nothing changes have been seen so far. Generally, the Finance Minister of India chairs the GST meeting on quarterly basis and in the meeting head of officials from various departments attend and give their views. Now, question is that why the Central Government doesn’t provide the revenue to the states. The ruling government often claims that it works following the federal norms. If it follows, it should have thought for state governments while it only works for its own growth. It is true that since implementation of the GST, the state governments have little option to generate the revenue so the Central Government must ensure to provide revenue to them on monthly basis so that development of states could be continued.
