Pin up is actually very feminist. Back then doing anything sexual for women wasnt ok. Women like Betty Page were the pioneers of women embracing their sexuality and being in control of it. Like how men are allowed to show skin the they wanted to too. They did it to feel confident
Faith Nisbet no that’s not the entire story. They showed skin to get paid by men. Which for many low education / poor women was in part a way out of the patriarchy and towards financial independance but they did embody / enact male phantasies and not their own per se. The identity they gained still was derivative: still a reflection foremost of pleasing a man.
Abigayle Chastenay Betty page wasn't a serial killer, was she? I thought she was sent to a mental institution for attacking a friend or something like that
Abigayle Chastenay Bettie page wasn’t a serial killer, she had schizophrenia and spent 8 years under government watch after pleading insanity for hitting her landlord

So much of the dialogue in their videos is this new brand of outrageous feminism critique sprinkled heavily among the rest of the commentary. It’s caused a huge disinterest in my consumption of their content
Bri Anne agreed. People forget that every decade and era had feminist, and strong women but they just had to show it different to fight their battles. I studied gender, I fight the good fight but it is hard today when so many concepts like that become kitschy. Wear your pride however you want and yeah we’re in a dark time now, but chantel didn’t even try for a time period piece that’s her job, I wish I were in her position! Devin’s was my fav. I love how she actually looked happy in her pictures. Also the photos were still nice but Chantelle obviously does not know sci-fi all. Devin and Kristin were doing almost exactly what actual pinup was which consists of lingerie, heels, thigh highs, etc. Chantel was in a fully covered body suit screaming that she is a feminist every two seconds. As for Freddie she was inspired by what reminded her of pinup and did a fairly decent job. Freddie had spirit while Chantel didn’t.

I noticed whoever their photographer is SUCKS. I'm sure they all did good, but whenever they have pictures taken the photographer has no idea how to frame or angle or when to even take the picture (there are plenty of photos they use where they have a normal pose but it looks like the photographer didn't take half a second to check if they were busy talking or not, so their mouth is just awkwardly open)
I honesty would’ve loved to have seen Jen’s take on pinup, just with how her style is so different and much more traditionally “masculine”... I totally understand schedules and all that but I love this video so much nonetheless

While I definitely enjoyed this video, I didn’t feel like Chantel’s look was anything near pinup. I was thinking like Barbarella vibes but instead it looked like a thrown together afterthought. It was kind of disappointing considering how good everyone else’s looks were.
Totally agree! Also, space wasn’t really a talked about “thing” in the pin-up years so, the fact that Chantal chose a space outfit made the whole concept flunk! I did like her faces tho! She’s so pretty!
Yeah she could have had more of a retro futuristic aesthetic. With a little bin more skin or the silhouettes of the 50ies fashion. @Laura exactly! I feel like channel hardly tries most of the times.. Especially the vid in which she traded gifts with that girl in India.. She really did that girl dirty..
@@aniston4632 Yeah seems to always want to push feminist ideas, which is fine but don't do a pin up video and then spend the whole thing trying to make it something else and refuse to do what is the point of the video. I don't know how much say they have in which videos they do, but they don't really seem into it lately.
Laura i agree, i used to love the videos but lately they have just been annoying. intergalactic space whatever isn’t pinup at all and 90% of her body is covered. i just don’t think she cares anymore and that shows so much now.
Freddie totally nailed her looks! They were giving me 90s hip hop/R&B music video meets strong, powerful woman. Not totally pinup, but maybe inspired by. Devin's were really cute too. Her hair and outfit were pretty and she has the poses down!
Chantel was exceptional >:( Really! There were things like galactic pinup models. It didn’t all have to be classic people. (I’m not talking about you, only the 90% of people that commented that.) But guess what? 90% of Ancient Rome was all a bunch of plebeians. Hehe
As someone who is a pinup model, I found this video disappointing. Ladylike once again does no research going into making this and ends up missing the whole point of the modern pinup scene which is already about empowering women by taking back a male-gaze form of modelling and embracing a style that is flattering for lots of women. Pinup is definitely about bringing your own personality to the photos with various props and things but it seemed like there was a misunderstanding of what pinup is the whole video. Also, I’m a hardcore feminist but Chantel’s constant insistence that traditional pinup somehow isn’t feminist again missed the whole point of the modern scene and was frankly annoying. Devyn and Kristin were on the right track but it would have been nice if they could have brought in an expert to talk about pinup. Also pinup was not the porn of the 1950s, porn was the porn of the 1950s.
they said that they were putting their own twist on it. just enjoy the video but yeah they didn’t really cover it very well but it’s still entertaining
kristen: L E G S devin: PoRNsTaRS freddie: feminism, owning your body! chantel: girls doing it for themselves!!! i love this video! pinups are awesome and honestly i love the whole feminism and girl power
girl in static It's not feminism though. It's girls posing and feeling good. Which isn't really feminism. So it would obviously make it not very feminist of them because it's not feminism.
Same here! Obvs I don’t know if Jen bowed out but, I can see why Jen would since Jen has a butch vibe. So, IF Jen bowed out then Chantal could’ve done the same!
Honestly, dolling yourself in a sexy way is _so_ amazing for the confidence! I cosplay Black Canary, and _goddamn_ can I understand why Dinah chose that outfit. I feel like I can take on the world, punch gropers and catcallers in the face, and just generally bring others to their knees. I feel so free and confident and empowered.
Tbh it's not something I think everyone can get confidence or empowerment from. It has pretty strict parameters (mostly stereotypical feminine seductiveness/ sexuality). Even if you make it your own like they all did (especially chantel) there are still those parameters you have to try to meet for the picture to register as pinup. S curved bodies, emphasising your butt, hips and chest. Not bad things, and definitely empowering for some, but not for all. Probably one of the reasons Jen wasn't in the video (could have been a scheduling thing, but i've noticed she does tend to shy away from videos that lean toward the more 'feminine' sex appeal thing.) I don't think I would enjoy this either, just because it's not how my sexuality manifests in the world. Not even just in terms of the so called 'femininity' of it all, but just because the overt sex appeal is not up my alley. I guess the overarching point i'm trying to make is overt sex appeal isn't required for people to feel sexually empowered or confident. And that's not a 'modesty' thing, it' a personality thing. Not saying you were saying it is needed, but just thought i'd bring it up.
I’m glad presenting yourself in a way men will objectify you gives you confidence and power. No wonder the stereotype of women using their bodies to get what they want exists.
Devin and Kristen were the only ones who really looked like pinups. Freddie tried though, and she looked good, because, well, she was trying! Chantel’s was just, no.......
Pixel Pudding they all looked pin up and they all looked fabulous. They where gorgeous and stunning. Also, I’m not expecting that you researched but Freddie’s outfits and Chantel’s makeup had a lot of common pin up details and they where trying to make it look modern AND old. Plus, how do you think you made Chantel feel when she read your comment?
Laura Maloney Firstly, I don’t hate Chantel, I just hated how she kept trying to twist it about something else. Kristen, Devin, and, Freddie, actually wanted to really transform into pin up models, which is partly why, in my opinion, they looked good. Chantel was just so focused on feminism that it bled into the main focus of the video. I can tell that she did honestly really wanted to do this, things like her pose and facial expression are actually fairly pin up. It’s just sad that her mind didn’t “allow?” it. She just had some sort of block (I’m pretty sure there’s a better word) that didn’t let her fully transform.
Star Rae Buzzfeed didn’t do the best research themselves, (there are a lot of comments here that can explain it better than I could) and my comment, was one comment. A few words that potentially, no one would ever see. This is a fully edited, medium length video, produced by a fairly big company, with millions of subscribers and money, enough money to hired a whole team of make up, hair, and clothing stylists, along with a team of cameras and lighting, for a vintage photo shoot. I’m pretty sure if they get something wrong it’s gonna be more impactful than a person who has under 30 subscribers, no? Also, I liked Freddie? In my comment I literally said that she looked good? And, I know Chantel’s has vintage elements, but, the point was to be a pin up model, not, just common pin ups. I kind of doubt Chantel read my comment anyway. She has better things to do than read my 20 liked comment.
Remember when Ladylike did research on their video topics? Great video and you ladies are awesome but Freddi and Chantel were definitely not “pin up” i think you coulda named this video differently.
Chantel was way far away from pinup. And Fred. Devin and Chantel went more on their own looks, going more modern than classic pinup. I didn't like the last two
They do research and etc there’s a lot to go into the videos so do your research. They came up with their own concepts so this is their take on it. Also did you notice that devin said “we did our versions of pin-up” so do your research
KKø but there is still some boundaries you have to follow to wear the style accurately. You can’t just wear something and call it pin up. Or you can but you are wrong.
In my opinion Kristen was the best! Her photos were beautiful and she did have the pin up vibe. If I had the chance to have a pin up photoshoot I would he a witch for sure, with a cauldron and a broom.
I agree with many people, chantel looked confused the whole time, her outfit was not pinup at all. And Freddie just looked like a modern model absolutely not pinup. But, Kristen and devin did amazing they looked great!
Devin was classic pinup. I hope she felt super sexy. Freddie was super sexy. Both are so photogenic. I think I would have posed Kristen a bit differently. Put more emphasis on her legs. Although Chantel is cute, I didn't get the pinup vibe. Great episode ladies! It looks like it was loads of fun. Episode idea: get pictures of your mom at your age, and dress like her, then compare mom and daughter pics.
Absolutely LOVE this comment! Literally every other person in the comment section is like SO NEGATIVE because of Fred and Chantel. Your doing constructive criticism and I appreciate it so much, so thank you random commenter lol! I also love the idea!
i can understand why chantel would have wanted to do this look and having the way she wanted but I wouldn't exactly classify it as pin up. I feel like if she went for a Jetsons/ What people the 1940s thought the future would look like kind of look, It would have over all matched the aesthetic and style of pin up.
Honestly I agree. Especially about what she said at the end about her pictures, "What? Me? Equality for women what?" That just plain annoyed me. There's a thin line where feminism just becomes annoying.
Also, there's already a feminist statement - women taking ownership of their sexuality, like Devin and Freddie were discussing at the start. Male gaze is a valid conversation, but if she didn't feel comfortable with pinup she didn't have to be in the video
I don't know if this is a completely wrong theme to the pinup aesthetic but i really wanted one of them to do a sailor outfit. Cute short skirt and shirt with the little sailor hat too.
Neither did Chantal! I do think Freddie had the least amount of pin up energy going on but, Chantal’s outfit......let’s just say that her outfit was.....out there! 😂
Only Devin and Kristen actually did pin up. Chantel and Freddy was just like a photoshoot for something. And Chantel was just like Feminist Feminist Feminism
Chantel was not pin up Her hair could be but no Her outfit isn't even modern pinup it covers 90% of her body No proper pin up poses She was so against it with her feminism, if you don't like it don't do the video
shes so against pinup but is ignorant to the fact that pinup was a form of feminism back in the 1950's. How are you gonna call your self a feminist and not know any history of it ????
Cherry Xiong No that’s not the entire story. They showed skin to get paid by men.Which for many low education/poor women was in part a way out of the patriarchy and towards financial independence but the did embody/ enact male fantasies and not there own perseverance. Feminism.... Feminism.....'femenism', it's more like, girls and women arent sexual in any way shape or form. They cant be seen as sexual at all. Omg ITISSOFREAKINGANNOYING
I don’t think Fred and Chantel understand what pin up is.... what they wore was the opposite, they look great! But It’s a little off. No hate there beautiful and creative!!! Thanks for the likes babes!
Fred actually got it with the white outfit. If you look at her sitting pose it's perfectly pinup. But her face is a little too hard. If she'd made a shocked "o" with her lips she'd have gotten it perfectly.
I am so happy that I have found this comment. U r one of the many people who have the common decency to give feedback in a respectful way and I wish that other people would think twice before commenting so they can write something more like this rather than putting innocent people down who just made a mistake
literally nothing about chantel was pin up but one of the poses. freddies wasnt pin up even slightly either it looked like 3 album covers. kristin and devin NAILED IT
I love Kristin and devins. They seem pretty accurate and came out so good. Freddie’s I feel like was a little inaccurate but I understood what she going for. Chantels just seemed really random and too modern. I didn’t understand the whole space theme. I’m not an expert so don’t @ me. Just my opinion. But all the ladies still looked gorgeous
Chantel has clearly no perspective for the past. Devin is a feminist and in touch with her sexuality and she was still all into it. Freddie tried but Devin and Kristen were the only ones that actually did pinups.
Love these girls so much!! They have taught me to be confident in my own skin and I can never stop laughing when I watch their videos! So excited another vid came out
SmokeThat SkinWagon stop blaming feminists for things you don’t like. They’re acting holier than thou? You have beef with them. Not with a general population of people who want equality.
Paige Peach It’s her choice she can do whatever she wants you have no say in it. Everyone has their limits that you may not understand. And besides not everyone is girly 🙄
I was just thinking pinup doesnt have to be girly that's not her esthetic and that's great. I thought it would be neat to see pinup reimagined im sure Jen would have had some wonderful ideas.
Fred looked so cute!! I loved her looks!! Also I absolutely can’t believe Chantel’s look!! I’m living for the boots, the shoulder pads, and hood. All of it! The girls really slayed this!!
At the end they say "pin up inspired" I do agree i wouldent have pined it as pin up but i do see the inspiration from pin up Although it dose make the title a bit clickbait-y 💙💙💙
sym is annoyed ok calm down 😑 . Also even if they did add their own twists to it and stuff I still think it shouldn’t be classed as ‘pin up’ I was expecting more of an on theme thing but ok

Really! There were things like galactic pinup models. It didn’t all have to be classic people. (I’m not talking about you, only the 90% of people that commented that.)
But guess what?
Amen
Thank you
that’s what i was thinking chantel was like talking down pin up models the entire tome
Exactly!
@Saire B. If someone was downplaying one of your passions or career you probably wouldn't find it as fun.
Would have really loved it if they brought in an expert for this, or changed the title to "pin-up inspired" maybe :\
they said that they were putting their own twist on it. just enjoy the video but yeah they didn’t really cover it very well but it’s still entertaining
kristen: L E G S
devin: PoRNsTaRS

chantel: girls doing it for themselves!!!
i love this video! pinups are awesome and honestly i love the whole feminism and girl power

This is not feminism.
Feminism is about equal opportunities and respect.
I personally can’t respect this...
@@jennym007 that's not very feminist of you 🤷♀️

girl in static It's not feminism though. It's girls posing and feeling good. Which isn't really feminism. So it would obviously make it not very feminist of them because it's not feminism.
If some women want to pose alluringly then that is okay cuz some men like to pose alluringly as well. That's equality

Honestly if Chantel wasn’t going to actually do pinup in the pinup video, why be apart of it?
I was thinking the same thing!!
Same here! Obvs I don’t know if Jen bowed out but, I can see why Jen would since Jen has a butch vibe. So, IF Jen bowed out then Chantal could’ve done the same!
Same with Freddie tho

Amelia Jorn right! Like I was disappointed 😔
Exactly🤦🏻♀️
Devin: I’m going to have a problem getting out of this emotionally.... and physically
I dont know, i think everyone needs to be a pinup at least once in their life. Talk about empowering and a confidence boost
For me id just be a self conscious mess. The total opposite of empowered. I.e. why I don't wear bikinis or bath suits to the beach
I’m glad presenting yourself in a way men will objectify you gives you confidence and power. No wonder the stereotype of women using their bodies to get what they want exists.
I would love to do pin up but my confidence is in the toilet
Devin and Kristen were the only ones who really looked like pinups. Freddie tried though, and she looked good, because, well, she was trying! Chantel’s was just, no.......
That's just rude and FYI if the girls like how they look it's got nothing to do with you no one needed your opinion 😡👿😡
Last thing to both of you, have you not read the other comments? They’re basically saying the same thing as me.
im so sad that devin only ended up getting 2 photos. her photoshoot was the BEST one
They said they added there on twist
Crazy Panda ^-^ they said modern day pinup but go off ig
Eh, Chantel's could have been better. It's nowhere near pin up.
In my opinion Kristen was the best! Her photos were beautiful and she did have the pin up vibe.
If I had the chance to have a pin up photoshoot I would he a witch for sure, with a cauldron and a broom.
omg that sounds so fun!
No one:
Chantel: I’m an intergalactic pinup feminist 🤦🏻♀️
I agree with many people, chantel looked confused the whole time, her outfit was not pinup at all. And Freddie just looked like a modern model absolutely not pinup. But, Kristen and devin did amazing they looked great!
You know there is mordern pin up, and not everyone has to dress in the 1930's - 60's era right?
Demona Demona eh who cares🤷🏽♀️ the video was great -.-
Well I think it was supposed to be with a twist so I mean idk.
It looks like it was loads of fun.

i can understand why chantel would have wanted to do this look and having the way she wanted but I wouldn't exactly classify it as pin up. I feel like if she went for a Jetsons/ What people the 1940s thought the future would look like kind of look, It would have over all matched the aesthetic and style of pin up.
i completely agree she didnt try hard enough, instead she just slapped "feminism" all over it.
She looked a fuckin mess

Chantel kinda reminded me of a bedazzled and sparkly asteroid, to be honest.......
I love how Devin just jumped right in. She was so confident and new exactly what to do and what she wanted.
Honestly I feel like Chantel shouldn’t have even been there. At least Freddie tried to get into it
It’s ok to have an op
Honestly I agree. Especially about what she said at the end about her pictures, "What? Me? Equality for women what?" That just plain annoyed me. There's a thin line where feminism just becomes annoying.
Why are you being so rude

They said they were trying to put their own modern take on pinup and there’s nothing wrong with that.
All beautiful pics, but only Devins and Kristins were pinup. The other two were not “modern pinup” if the poses AND outfits aren’t pinup its not pinup
Devin surprising everyone with her dirty humor at the end.😂😂
"oH! WhEre dId My cLOtheS Go?"
Dude, Devin is legitimately great at this! I love how completely not self-conscious she seems! I really wanted a red lip, though.
Chantel keeps trying to make a statement about feminism but its literally just a photoshoot

Freddie didn’t look like pin up but she did look cute
Neither did Chantal! I do think Freddie had the least amount of pin up energy going on but, Chantal’s outfit......let’s just say that her outfit was.....out there! 😂
They said they were doing a “modern pin-up” so I’m not surprised it wasn’t 100% the pin-up we think of lol
Was-a-fan usa look if it could get pinned to somebody's wall for....... inspiration, its a pin up
Freddie looked like an album cover from the '80s and beyond. Some of which have been taped to the insides of lockers and such - a modern pin-up.
Neither did chantel. But I loved both of them anyways.
Only Devin and Kristen actually did pin up. Chantel and Freddy was just like a photoshoot for something. And Chantel was just like Feminist Feminist Feminism

Fred actually got it with the white outfit. If you look at her sitting pose it's perfectly pinup. But her face is a little too hard. If she'd made a shocked "o" with her lips she'd have gotten it perfectly.
