You can run 250 players in Robot 64 at 1/5 update rate.

This is the original high graphics update rate for Robot 64 if all the players were far away, tested in this video. Normally players would be updated faster if close to you but with the way this optimized multiplayer works all players have to follow a set update rate.
The extreme optimizations I've placed in my game are probably not going anywhere as it uses many cursed practices which breaks the accuracy between the game and Vanilla but for the most part you'll have a good time playing this.
While Robot 64 Tag does have some of my optimizations, it's not all.

They could possibly achieve 100 with 1/2 update rate but it's probably going to be a controversial choice to do that
