I’m 53 and been playing guitar since Jr. High and never had a band or really jammed with people. Recently I’ve been obsessed with the idea of forming a cover band and buying a van, PA system, generator, lights, and going around playing everywhere we can. I’ve been compiling songs to play and imthink I’ll add this one. Keep on rocking girl.
Only do it if you really love it. I played guitar for over 30 years with 15 different local classic rock cover bands. Weekend warriors, self booking (no manager/agent) …made $50-$200 per gig (enough for gas/food/guitar strings). Our bands rarely ventured far (under 100 miles) and played small venues (75-250 capacity).
Advice:
Invest minimally in lights.
1. Not always room onstage
2. Complicates setup, more time in breakdowns, too.
3. Nobody feels responsible for setting them up or breaking them down (not personal equipment).
4. Lights are only for stage, not rehearsals or recordings 😊 maybe show off for friends?
One more thing, play the most popular songs you can think of. Songs that you hate because you’ve heard it so many times, is exactly what drunk people love to sing along with. Margaritaville, I Love Rock & Roll, Rock & Roll All Night, even Lewie Luwie or Long Cool Woman. Complex musical numbers are wasted in clubs/parties where people just want to dance…that’s why D.J.s are so popular and good bands are becoming harder to find. Why spend $400-$600 on a band? A DJ will do a show for $250-$300.

@@Hugh_Manitee …at one point in one of my last bands, I owned all the PA & lights, the trailer for carrying ALL the equipment (including drums) and the pickup truck that towed the trailer! Yet the band members had to be coerced into paying me an extra $20 for gas⛽️ money. Talk about selfish! 🐠

I went to school with Eric Brittingham here in Berlin, Md. and played in a band with him before he made it big with Cinderella. Wish he would see this vid. Good job!

@@skeeter197140 We're not all Billy Sheehan, Flea, or whoever you prefer. You also do not know how long she has been playing or her situations so you do not have a benchmark to compare it to. If she's been playing 25 years then maybe she isn't the best in the world, however keep in mind that the genre she's covering here had simple bass guitarists to begin with. Those 80's bass lines were all about 4/4 root note stuff. Also, if you don't like it... don't watch lol. Why would you waste your personal time doing something you don't like? Simply to troll to try to make others feel bad in an attempt to make yourself feel good or powerful? Where can I see your RUclips vids? As for me, I like her.

hell yes!!!! great job!! you brought me back to high school. i wore that cassette out twice! 2 things though: 1) if you raise the bass up just a smidge, maybe an inch or two, it'll give you a lot more power with your downstroke picking. 2) you need to be swinging that hair around and make metal faces at the camera. 😉 OR you could just ignore me and keep on having fun and doing your thing! i really enjoyed this vid. keep up the great work!

My youngest is a very talented drummer (and now guitarist) my oldest is a pianist and singer, and my wife is a music professor and soprano. They all kept asking me to start playing bass again and to play with them, since we don't get to do much "together" things as a family. Right on! I saw them the first time on June 21, 1989. Hearnes Center. Columbia, MO. Bullett Boys opened, Winger played a decent show, Then Cinderella put on a fantastic show. That was mine,and my future ex wife's first date. LOL

Pro tip: when you have a line that consists of long stretches on a single note, subtly break it up into 4s or 8s rhythmically. It will keep you on time, and you can ramp up dynamically leading into the bridge or chorus. Your drummer will appreciate it too. Keep rocking young lady!
