Shanghai, China has had a really bad problem with something known as the Green Tea scam. It's basically when a group of people try to convince you to try a tea ceremony with them, then lead you to a place where they'll overcharge for a basic herbal tea. There are many variations of this scam, and unfortunately CookSux fell for one. In this video, Jake decides to take matters into his own hands and confront the scammers while livestreaming the entire thing.

Yah sorry guys when I got serious somehow my Chinese randomly improved. 😅
I was a bit nervous to confront the scammers at the bar but I figured it was the only way. Happy it ended up working out.. really does suck that this exists and targets foreigners. However I would never say that this should discourage you from traveling and learning more about our world! ☺️ Just be aware it exists. 👍🏼
Pushy Sales people in those markets is another scam to avoid
I like that your moral compass is intact & stood up against the scammers.

I wrote to the Shanghai tourism Bureau to report this... can't believe after all those years this still exists. Hope they get back to me and do something about it.

the scam is called 酒托, i'm surprised some bars in shanghai still do this, it should have been eradicated years ago.
I got scammed exactly like this when I arrived in Shanghai in 2007. I remember I negotiated a shity wine with sprite and got the price reduced from 6000 RMB to 1500 RMB. 😂
I believe the owner of that bar will have a big trouble. Some Chinese audiences who have watched your video may report it to the police! As I may know, the Chinese local government works very hard to attract tourists and boost the economy. That owner has done something really bad!
Yeah, F them. I hate those scammers! Not because they are scammers, it is because they have done it so poorly! Low-quality PoS scammer, at least you should get some really nice girls hooked up with Jackes, get them drunk, and send them the bills with evidence after a night.

I don't think so. I walked down the Nanjing East Road just a few days ago. Police everywhere. I got approached around 10 times by multiple woman just within 15 minutes, in front of the police. They fucking know its all scam. They still do not do anything.

The one ability I don't have, is what Jake just demonstrated here. Only when it comes to money though. I have done a lot of things Jake has done when it comes to harassment and physical interactions, but Jake is an actual Batman. Dude goes hard in the paint for his friends, that was actually impressive. One of the best negotiators I've ever seen.

They got a little bit more tricky than that. Now they make accounts on Tinder and Bumble, making up a story ("I am here for a business trip blabla"), bringing you to a normal restaurant first to gain your trust, then while walking down the street, she will suddenly bring you to a random bar. Happened to me as well. I didn't pay in the end, but that was because I became quite aggressive. But as a normal dude, who just arrived in Shanghai, they just get tricked into this shit right away.
strongly suggest you report to the Police. I was in the same situation like 8 - 10 years ago in Xi`an. I ran away before going into the bar and turned in Police reported the same. the bar and boss got in jail I remembered. I thought we didn`t have this situation in China anymore. looks like bad ppl there always. it`s hard to see now but still some there.

If they are in Thailand, they are done for because the Thai police were paid off by these crooks! I know people got scammed in Thailand and the police will force the victims to pay or else arrest them! Thai policemen were so lowly paid that they need to have side income to survive!

Business is doing very badly lately in Shanghai. .which probably explains the resurgence of scammers. YOu are brave to confront them. . .Definitely right that a decade ago you would have been surrounded and intimidated or beaten, especially before everyone had personal live stream capability.

Many of these bars use young and beautiful women to attract victims, order overpriced drinks and then rip off customers. If you encounter someone, call the police directly. The bigger things get, the more panicked these scammers will be.

Why not report to the police. U will get full refund if u get him to the police. He will be fined a lot and may go to jail. less foreigners will be scammed.

They tried it in me and failed miserably at that same bar:-) After I got scammed I went back to the bar, stood in front and took pictures of the place. They ran out and gave me my money back, all of it!
