මතුගම මාකෙලි ඇල්ල ප්‍රදේශයේ කළු ගඟේ අතු ගංගාවක් වන කුකුලේ ගඟ හරහා තවත් එතරම් ප්‍රසිද්ධ නැති සංගිලි පාලමක් පිහිටා ඇත. කොස්ගුලන සංගිලි පාලම ලෙස හඳුන්වන මෙම පාලම මීටර් 65ක් පමණ දිග වන අතර මාර්ගයට නොපෙනේ. මෙම පාලමේ විශේෂත්වය වන්නේ පළාත් දෙකක් අතර පිහිටා ඇති අතර මෙම කුඩා එල්ලෙන පාලම හරහා බස්නාහිර පළාතේ සිට සබරගමුව පළාතට යා හැකිය.
කොස්ගුලන සංගිලි පාලම ජල මට්ටමේ සිට අඩි 750 ක් පමණ ඉහළින් පිහිටා ඇති අතර කිතුල් ලෑලි 400 ක් පමණ අතුරා ඇත. මෙම පාලම අඩි 3ක් පළලින් යුක්ත වන අතර දිනකට සිය ගණනක් මෙම පාලම හරහා ගමන් කළද 2016 වසරේ එය අබලන් තත්ත්වයේ පැවති බව වාර්තා විය.
සංගිලි පාලම යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ විවිධ ප්‍රදේශවල ගංගා හරහා පිහිටා ඇති පටු එල්ලෙන පාලමකි (එල්ලෙන පාලම). ඉපැරණි සංගිලි පාලම ඉදිකර ඇත්තේ විශාල ලණු භාවිතා කර නමුත් වර්තමානයේ මෙම පාලම් ඉදිකිරීම සඳහා වානේ කේබල් භාවිතා කරයි. මෙම පාලම් පටු බැවින් පදිකයින්ට පමණක් ඒවා භාවිතා කළ හැකි අතර බොහෝ විට යන්තම් පුද්ගලයන් දෙදෙනෙකුට එකිනෙකා පසුකර යා හැක. කේබල් හරහා ලී ලෑලි අතුරා ඇත නමුත් බොහෝ අවස්ථාවලදී නඩත්තු නොකිරීම නිසා සමහර ලෑලි හිඩැස් ඇති සිදුරු නිර්මාණය කිරීම සොයා ගත හැක.
සංගිලි පාලමක ත්‍රාසය මුළු පාලමම සෑම පියවරක් පාසාම පැද්දෙමින් දෙපැත්තට පැද්දෙමින් එය හරහා ගමන් කරයි. දිගු කරන ලද කේබල් සහ ලිහිල් ලෑලි වලින් ඝෝෂාකාරී දැන්වීම් සමඟ ඔබ පාලමේ මැද දෙසට ගමන් කරන විට පැනීම සහ පැද්දීම වැඩි වීමත් සමඟ, බොහෝ අය මෙවැනි අත්හිටුවීම් පාලම් හරහා ඇවිදීම ස්නායු කම්පන සහගත වේ.
Another little-known Sangili Palama lies across Kukule Ganga, a tributary of Kalu Ganga in the Makeli Ella area in Matugama. Known as Kosgulana Sangili Palama, this bridge is about 65 meters long and not visible from the road. What is unique about this bridge is that lies between two provinces and you can go from the Western Province to the Sabaragamuwa Province by crossing this tiny suspension bridge.
The Kosgulana Sangili Palama lies about 750 feet above the water level and is laid with about 400 Kitul planks. The bridge is 3 feet wide and it was reported that it was in a dilapidated state in 2016 even though hundreds cross this bridge every day.
Sangili Palama is a type of narrow suspension bridge (hanging bridge) which lies across rivers in various parts of Sri Lanka. The ancient Sangili Palama’s were built using large ropes but now steel cables are used in building these bridges. These bridges are so narrow only pedestrians can use them and most of the time barely 2 people can pass each other. wooden planks are laid across the cables but in most cases, due to non-maintenance, some planks can be found missing creating gaping holes.
The thrill of a Sangili Palama is walking across it with the whole bridge bouncing with every step and swaying side to side. With the bouncing and swinging increasing as you move towards the centre of the bridge with rattling notices from stretching cables and loose planks, most people find walking across these types of suspension bridges nerve-wracking.
