Excellent Video thanks Jim - W8BFO here and I just purchased a couple of yellow units from an ebay member in NY - I will be testing them out over the next few months as I get them programmed up for Ham and repeater use.
@@FEPLabsRadio The Video was clear and had excellent content covering the exact subject I was looking for. Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next educational video. Thnx and 73s Will
It's not has complicated as you might think. A lot of it is straight up stuff that's like any other radio. Honestly, I could have shortened this up a lot, by just skipping to the P25 specifics, and the way it stores channels.
The CPS5.03 will install, launch and program the radio under Windows Vista. Absolutely no luck with Win10. USB-Serial adapters with the FTDI chipset worked for me. USB-Serial adapters with Prolific chipset would not read the radio under Vista. Good video.
Thanks - that is one of my oldest videos, I really appreciate you watching it, I see a lot of cringe in it (mostly on the production side). Yeah I just scored a functional XP machine from the mid 2000's and that's what I use to program that. The box I have has an actual serial port, 32-bit win XP. Thanks for watching!
I don't know of any, I created that myself. If you live in an area with P25 action, you probably can find a local ham who has one. We have no P25 repeaters here for ham use.
Hello, Astro is failing to read my XTS3000. im using an FTDI cable to convert 9pin to USB on win XP. Astro is recognizing the com port but is failing to read the radio. Any help would be much appreciated.
Just for your information, the XTS-3000 Program does work on Windows 7 Home Premium with a serial to USB Adapter as i just got done adding some analog and P25 frequencies in my radio.
It was likely the need for a serial port driver that is supported on any version of windows. You can try to manually add the legacy hardware for COM port and see if that helps. Please follow the steps mentioned below: Press Windows key + X, and click on Device Manager. Click on Action, select Add legacy hardware and click on Next. Click on Install the hardware that I manually select and click on Next. Scroll down, select Ports (COM & LTP) and click on Next. Select the appropriate drivers and click on Next. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
The XTS-3000, Saber, and Astro Spectra software can run on other Windows operating systems. Like Win7 and Win10, but 32bit OS only! I have it running on Win10 pro, 32bit. Good Luck!
Hmmm, I'll have to tinker with that. I'm pretty sure I tried it on 32bit win7 vm and got no joy, but it's been a couple of years. I need to look at that again.
Similar to my Astro Saber programming and for my XTL5000. So I can use my DMR ID as my ID for P25 and use the NAC code as listed for North America. Can you do private person to person contacts if you have their ID similar to DMR? Also I am using my ID as the ID on my PiStar MMDVM BOARD. Any issues with that or should I apply for a different ID for the hotspot? Too bad Yaesu has not come up with a dual vocoder in their radios, one could do YSF and P25 on the same radio just be choosing vocoder with your channel data settings.
Not AFAIK with P25, unless you are affiliated with a system that allows that. The poor mans way is to fire up your own P25 reflector, and make your own private TG (the software is on github), and you can do that with a Raspberry pi. You don't need a separate ID, I use my regular DMR ID for P25
Do you have any tutorials on setting up the XTS-3000 for NAS of a P25 Trunked system? Motorola Type II Smartzone. Struggling to find good info on this, everything seems to be XTS-2500/5000 specific.
I'm just now realizing how many great videos like this are out there on the topic of XTS programming. One clarification at 10:15 , QPSK-C is a modulation type as you mentioned, though you also called it a codec. My understanding is that as TIA standards evolved, Motorola eventually implemented LSM to improve delay spread in Phase 1 simulcast, so this modulation type is associated with simulcast. No real connection between CQPSK and encryption. As you point out though, the XTS radio still transmits C4FM even though it may be receiving LSM from the simulcast base stations. All XTS digital radios are going to be IMBE unless you have a super old
I caught that after I had uploaded the video. Sometimes my mouth and my brain are not simultaneously engaged. Honestly, studying up on the codecs, the modulations, for all the digital modes was brain boggling. I was amazed how close so many of them are. Thank you for watching!
That's going to be a check box in the CPS software. Where it is, I couldn't tell you, it depends on the radio, and what CPS software. It is not going to be front-panel programmable, esp on older model public-safety type Moto's (what I have).
Hey man I got an issue with my Motorola xts3000 I can not get this thing to pick up anything anyway I can get ahold of you and maybe you can walk me through this
I haven't used mine in months, I'd have to re-learn some stuff. I also have to hook up my XP computer again. What you got going on? You have the right NAC?
Rafael - that is a tricky question. I can't really tell you anything hard and fast. Ask the seller questions. Make sure that you're buying from a reputable seller. The biggest gotcha is being able to get the software to program the radio, and having a computer that it will work on. Without that, there is no point in getting one. As for being locked, that goes back to who you're buying the radio from. A reputable seller will know if the radios are locked or not. if they don't know, then don't buy it from that seller. Good luck!
I assume you have the CPS software, in there you set it up as a conventional system, and then set up your channels. Just don't enable the P25 digital stuff, and it works analog. I can't remember the exact screen, it's been a couple of years since I did this video, and that radio is in a box somewhere.

If you are trying to program it as part of an existing system (Phase 2?) If so, the system owner has to add you in.
