Billy and Matt get into the festive spirit by revisiting the 2011 Christmas special, The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. Is it really as bad as Matt's been complaining about all these years? Will Billy finally stop complaining about Steven Moffat? Will Matt ever get that date with Mandip Gill? If that's not enough, they finish off with a Q&A from the lovely listeners on Twitter!

Dont know if it's because the last couple of shows have been recorded on zoom, but really impressed by how pin sharp the picture is in this ep! Welcome back properly!
I appreciate that while it aired it could be difficult to keep up with Moffat's storylines but the Eleventh Doctor's arc from the cracks in time to Trenzalore isn't that complicated. I don't consider myself a Moffat apologist but I think it's a shame that his era is frequently written off as too difficult to understand and therefore rubbish. I don't think it's a hidden masterpiece or anything like that but there are some wonderful stories that I think should be talked about more. I would recommend anyone that didn't like them at the time to revisit them, you might be surprised by what you find. It is far too horny though!
Love the Review of Death and I hope the podcast is only getting started!
Merry Christmas lads!
Hey thanks for the shout-out!! Happy to support your Patreon and the podcast. You guys are fun to watch. :) Also your action figure adventures are really solid story telling pieces. The 5th doctor story Hell on Earth is my all time favorite. The 4th doctor sontaran story, 11th doctor weeping angel, 6th doctor stories and 8th doctor stories are awesome too.
Twice Upon a Time is worse than Billy gives it credit for, Capaldi doesn't say 'it's not an evil plan' at the end its barely past the halfway mark there's a big ol chunk of episode left after they admit theres no plot
A fantastic final video of the year, both parts were absolutely top notch. I'm so glad that you've got to this stage now, I remember watching you back in 2015, Thankyou Mat and Billy for a brilliant last half of the year.
Arrabella Weir’s biggest claim to fame was being in The Fast Show, and you’ll find her these days in a Scottish comedy called Two Doors Down, where she stars alongside Jonathan Watson (Sontaran Commander Stenck/Skaak/Ritskaw), Alex Norton (Taggart) and Wrestling Legend Grado 😊
Just wondering if you think a pure historical could work? I've enjoyed the return to the historicals, kind of a return to the shows roots, but I've found the SC-FI elements are often the worst, often generic. It feels like they've maybe came up with the historical first and then thought it might not work with younger audiences so then chucked a scfi element onto it
I wasn’t keen on a lot of “The Doctor, The Witch and the Wardrobe” but the moment where the kids find out their Dad died and the mum has to relive it is a suburb scene.
matt should make a video with his cyberman costume, where a lone cyberman is loose in the yogs office.
Omg would love to see those scene recreations! Great video again guys👍
Director Farren Blackburn did series 7B episode The Rings of Ahkaten....
Not much better a story really but there's some good visuals in that one.
Merry Christmas boys.....I could happily watch yer ROD all day long...🐴
01:35:58 Rasputin! Ahead of the curve there lads 🙂
I wish I never said Billy and his Moffat comments haha.
billy being worried about being mean straight away bc people grew up on this episode is sweet, but I can tell you as someone that was 8 when I watched this, I thought it was shit too
Man be like "Richard Hurndall was too young" bro he was 73
I got dead excited when I first heard that Arabella Weir was cast I thought the exiled 3rd doctor was going to cross paths with 11
I’m pretty much in the same boat as Matt when it comes to the Matt Smith era. While, unlike Matt, I will watch any DW for pleasure, choosing at random between new and classic, everything between series 6-8 completely washes over me. I had far more free time at university than I did for my A levels during the RTD era but I barely remember anything about the 11th doctor except series 5 and then DoTD
Fantastic Review as always. Probably the WORST Revived Series story
Russell's Xmas Specials were pretty good? Not from my POV. Apart from a couple of "meh" Christmas specials, Widow/Wardrobe being one of them, Steven Moffat's era had by far the best specials IMHO.
Even though I grew up with SJA as well as Russel's Doctor Who , I still would prefer to rewatch Torchwood.
That shows brilliance has not been tarnished.
I loved children of earth but series 1 felt a bit off
@@peterthompson1989 Ah yeah, Series 1 of Torchwood is a bit iffy. S2 has some great stuff in it, and 3 is undoubtedly brilliant
That video was fantastic and Merry Christmas Everyone 🎅🎄🎁☃️❄👽👾🤖😀😀😀😀👍👍👍👍.
Think I’ve missed something? What happened with John Barrowman to make you feel a certain way about him? I get the Noel Clark issue as I saw the news regarding what he had done but not aware of any barrowman controversy?
he got his winky out
1:37:41 That person would be me, looking forward to it!
1:21:40 - Matt nails it.
I feel like you could do with having some insufferable know-it-all out of mic range with a big whiteboard writing down the bits of minutiae that you can't remember, like Dorium Maldovar, or Morgus, I find myself trying to tell you through my computer when I'm watching, but you can't hear me because it's a recording
Speaking of music, there's a video of the 11th Doctor's final scene with the music removed. In my opinion it's 100x better than the actual scene because it's more downbeat and the actors are allowed to carry the scene: ruclips.net/video/7AHDFztrHwY/видео.html
Yeah totally agree with Billy of the reason why TUAT is the worst Special.
Husbands of River Song is a bit of a weird one, but personally I love how it finally caps off River's story
Here's a cracking ska cover of I'm Gonna spend my Xmas with a Dalek: ruclips.net/video/thKkQTdEd68/видео.html
To answer Matt's question I quite liked the President of earth stuff. With the Doctor having defended and protected earth on so many occasions against alien threats in makes sense that they would trust him with the responsibility of earth under difficult circumstances when the earth is under alien threat to make key decisions of responsibility. Also as much as the Series 8 Finale is really bad I think the President of the Earth thing does work from a character point of view in that story of the Doctor questioning himself as a good man as he questions if he is worthy of the position that plays well into his character arc. Great review anyway, always hated the Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.
Thats the production problem for adding Murray Gold's music none stop. He just makes it. The episode itself it's just a first draft, edit and add a few things it could be decent. Didn't really feel nothing from this episode. Not a fan of the Moffat era despite it being great compared to Chibbers.
