Congrats dude! Brandon hearted your comment!
@@madster01 ayo mr g minor
I liked the unrelated pentatonic shapes solo best - perhaps you should combine both like a normal person then it would really be best.
Isn’t that what people do?
Is there an age limit
I thought this was more than a couple weeks ago
But I found it helpful.
I’m a pretty good guitarist already because of natural talent soloing and writing music that I personally think needs to be heard it is better than what’s out there.
But … I relied on natural talent too much.
As everyone does - and it’s important to focus on theory.
Exercises like this are extremely helpful.
I actually like the pentatonic shapes after it got out of the lower beat and the fifth best.
But targeting appregio chord tones
It’s necessary to harmonize
And it creates movement
And helps tell a story.
I am a funny guy and change the scales in a weird way to get weird sounds.
But anyway nothing wrong with good exercises.
I’d like to focus on the fifth, which, would also seem pretty easy too since that is also an unchanging element between major and minor.
for every like this comment gets i will practice guitar for 10 minutes
do it.
practice 7,6 hours NOW or else you're on CIGARETTES
Why don’t you just practice ?
Have fun!
2900/60 dude you got like 48 hours of practicing get to it
bro hearted his own message
It's a free heart, you'd be crazy not to take it.
Brandon, hear me out.
A great example for this is the solo of Sultan of Swings by Mark Knopler. He only played chord tones and shapes the entire time, and made one of the best solos under the sun. Thats a perfect example for this and since ive always looked at learning solos differently, always tryna find something theoretical.
The first solo?
"Tell me which sounds better?" - plays all amazing solos.
Me: "Fuck you......." 😂
Man, he said pentatonic sounds bad but it sounded so good when he does it.
can’t even play the pentatonic well coz i’m scared of brandon yelling at me about it
Brandon would yell at you for not trying, not trying and failing
😵 😂😂
Comfortably numb is actually just the Bm pentatonic dw
that pentatonic solo didn't sound to bad to me
That's because you're ON CIGARETTES
I liked it too.
It doesn't sound bad, but it's definitely more boring. imo
Love this man so much, his shorts were a real help last year when I started playing but now these videos are just a whole other level. Thank you Brandon
they all sounded good
And so begins the fun times
Thanks. Very helpful and clearly explained that I actually understood what you was talking about for a change.
every like this comment gets i will practice 20 minutes so i beat the other guy in the comments
Wow. Older dude here getting back into guitar after years and that is the simplest and coolest explanation I have ever seen. I have had issues with working arpeggios into my improvising but this just blew my eyes wide open.
Thank you!
Really grateful for these tips, this change timing could not have been any more perfect, happened exactly when I started to learn how to solo.. 🙏
Great video, keep going the way you want to bro you're a great teacher for a lot of us 👌
Thanks Brandon you've taught me a thing or 2 or 3. I've definitely fallen into soloing using pentatonics. Lately I've branched out with leading notes and chord tones. I'm pretty critical about my own playing, I'm not a perfectionist. Sometimes I leave some imperfections in my songs as it feels a little more raw. I'm completely self taught in every instrument I play: bass, guitar, mandolin, keys, ukulele. I'm basically a one man band, but if I ever find people to play with, I want to be well rounded and can play what's needed. Watching your shorts and videos has given me more tools I can incorporate. So I want to thank you for these compact little lessons.
Great lesson
this is great information
came to me just in time for a change
Brandon, you're an awesome player. I really enjoy listening to the 30 second long snippets of music you play in your videos. It must be all the fookin cigarettes you don't smoke or something. Do you have original music posted anywhere?
Is it bad that I like the targeted 3rd and simple pentatonic shapes best? Lol
Honestly my takeaway was "oh shit, i should just follow a similar formula when Im soloing and target the same chord tone one time through the progression, then go to the next the next time through, and at some point just pentatonic it up one of the pass throughs..." Great way to give your solo some movement and variation! But i like the way he taught to focus on one area of the neck at a time, also helps with learning chords everywhere along the neck so you dont have to move way up and way down for a change and sound like someone on cigarettes! Better voice leading this way too, even if Im not good at it I understand the goal.
They all have their place. One annoyance I have is this push by internet guitarists to focus on the third, all the time. They think it's like the holy grail to always hit the 3rd. In reality, just play what sounds best. When I'm coming up with vocal melodies I don't think of thirds or roots, I just sing what sound good. And if you transcribe vocal melodies, you're going to get a mix all the time. Pentatonic runs sound cool interspersed as a way to get away form the chord tone sound, making it all the better when you do hit a chord tone (roots are't just for noobs!)
helpful
But they all sound good 😭
targeting the 3rd sounds very jazzy and targeting the 5th sounds metal so in the end depends on what you play tbh
How to fast legato?
are you using gate pedal to avoid hum and buzz while playing tele with distortion? or is there some other way? teach me sensei
0:05 can someone tell where dafok this sound comes from? It's in every yt video in recent times
old good penta of course...
I think using the 3rds sounds best, most emotion heavy solo. The pentatonic one is more noodly and atonal/random feeling. Root is kind of boring and 5th is okay.
I prefer pentatonic scales because I play Stoner Doom & Sludge Metal.
If Cobra Kai was a guitar teacher
now just leave !! lolol
we will man
Am I the only one that liked the pentatonic solo the most lol
I only play e minor
Hahaha you're giving away info that the other RUclipsrs don't want people to know.
Hello beaches! It’s day 84 of telling Brandon to play A minor
Womp womp
average pentatonic mouth breather
@@marcelszekowski315 uhhh… I’ve moved on I use harmonic minor now
DAY 2 of asking Brandon to explain relative minor theory
Brandon,
I'm old and come from a time when we thought cigarettes were cool so my brain is irreparably fucked.
I understand conceptually what you are doing here, but the idea that i could do it myself seems like a combination of hilarious and unrealistic.
Do a video on what to learn if you ACTUALLY suck at guitar, rather than "RUclips GEN Z savant suck" at guitar.
Thanks in advance,
