  • We're telling you the story of how we went from humble beginnings, without strong homesteading backgrounds, to edge-of-the-Amazon self-sufficiency advocates. We didn't ALWAYS develop our own gluten free breads, butcher our own animals, or can our own salsa verde. It took time, hard learned lessons, plenty of mistakes, a lot of humor and humility, determination, and the willingness to keep going. If we can do it, you too - no matter what point you're at in your OWN journey!

We are an American family living permanently in Ecuador, transforming a mostly-untouched 30 acres of jungle mountain into a working, self-sustainable, off-grid farm. There are a lot of trials, errors, successes, and lessons to be learned along the way. We hope to share it all with you, to tell our story, to inspire, and to hopefully help answer the questions you didn’t know to ask.

Are there people there that do butchering for a fee or exchange for some meat?

Not really, at least not that we've seen. There are slaughterhouses and then butcher stores, but I don't know if there are butchers that would take your animal, process, and give back like in the states.
