@Sreyanshiji - This wasn't his maiden attempt. Gandhi had tight security. This wasn't the first attempt by any means and he wasn't the first person also. The only thing is that he had only this chance of prarthana sabha where Gandhi had least security. Nathuramji was even feeling guilty that he used prarthana sabha for this but he had no other option due to high security otherwise. This is because within a week, Gandhi was going to go to Pakistan and accept their offer of giving a free corridor to West Pakistan through India to East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). This corridor would go through Punjab, Haryana, UP and Bengal and condition was that 16 kms on either side of this corridor, only Muslims could live. That was Jinnah's demand that Gandhi was going to acquiesce to. His brother Gopal Godse also tried. Only Nathuramji had the blessing of the divine to give his life for India. Mahatma is really Nathuram not Gandhi

It is very sad that our books, literature, media feel bad about discussing them as it might make the other sections feel bad. During childhood, while learning history, I always hated Gandhi's methods. But back then, as a kid, I was afraid to say so. But not anymore. As I grew up, I started learning more about the lives of our revolutionaries - Netaji, Rajguru, Khudiram, Sukhdev, Bharat Singh, Ashfaqulla Khan, Rani Laxmibai. I really want that the GOI should use the portraits of Bharat Singh or Netaji or Rani Laxmibai on our currency notes.

I remember during my school days, in my history book it was written, "A half mad man shot Gandhi to dead".
It was instilled in the minds of many that Godse was bad because that's how history was tweaked by those in power. It's a high time this awareness needs to be spread, he didn't get the honor he deserved.

Muslim League asked for a state only for Muslims, which was against Indian sovereignty. Some people chose to compromise their values and some don't. Gandhiji wanted India to be peaceful. He agreed for partition with a hope of reunion. But his decision affected him deeply. Just to stop from the further partition of India he had to accept separate civil code for Muslims in India. That's what happened. Godse wanted to see things in a standalone way as of we live in a vaccum chamber. Just keep yourself in Gandhijis position and think once. What would be the best decision for your country? Is it division with a hope of peace or the constant unrest? That was options he had at the time. He couldn't see future of Pakistan becoming a terrorist, he couldn't see constant tension between Hindus and Muslims in independent India. He thought he is creating a country out of a group of people who believe in Indian Constitution. What would you do if you were in the same situation?

When killing spree starts, a grater man stops the chain not add to it. Because thats the right thing to do with your country's interest in mind in a long run.
