It took India these many years to address what Veer Savarkar actually did for his country? In Maharashtra, most of us have learned about him at our homes since we were little. 🙏ने मजसी ने परत मातृभूमीला सागरा, प्राण तळमळला 🙏these poems and many more are always played in our homes alongside every other freedom song.
Not sure about country but my household always downplaying Gandhi and spoke highly about the likes of Savarkar brothers, Bose, Bhagat Singh etc. And I'm from Gujarat. We know when we see a real freedom fighter. My grandfather always stood by his belief of Gandhi being a mere negotiator. A stoog being planted in South Africa and then brought to India. Gandhi was the lubricant to make sure things dint get violent between the angry Indians and the British govt. Hence the ahimsa BS. Us being Gujjus ourselves don't rate Gandhi as much as the world wants us to. We're a dry state but we still drink. Sab naam ka Hai, no one gives a toss about Gandhi on the ground.

It was Savarkar who told Hindus to fight for British in WW2, Gandhi did the same in WW1. In a nutshell both made questionable decisions.

As a person from Maharashtra, I am really happy that the rest of India is finally recognising the brilliance of Veer Savarkar. His contribution is not only as Nationalist Freedom fighter and Social reformist, but his also to modern Indian literature and language. The two greatest Philosopher of Independent India are Veer Savarkar and Dr. Ambedkar. Unfortunately, both are misunderstood and their work has been discredited.

@@tuhin2839Sure there are the pros that Savarkar did for the country as a freedom fighter but he also did support the holocaust of the Jews by supporting the Nazi party and with sheer Hypocrisy Savarkar also supported the Jews when Israel was given to them as a country.
There are many evil things about Savarkar as well. He was confused between ethnicity and religion and yet he himself being an atheist he took the idea of mistreatment of the people from the monotheistic religions.
India belongs to the people who ethnically Indians irrespective of their religion. But this view he didn't hold and in the name of nationalism Savarkar spread hindu extremism to a whole different level that ended up to what we have this government today which is unconstitutional in essence.
Savarkar was a confused person on his ideology but nonetheless he has contributed to the freedom of India.
This is the worst point of humanity because any person without any approval can feed false or deceiving info to public. And we trust them as authentic because of our interest. 😢

Savarkar was way ahead of people of his time. If he was given enough sound during that time then the problems we see in our society today wouldn't have existed
Dr Ambedkar and Veer Savarkar both had great, mutual and life long respect for each other. Dr Ambedkar helped Dalits by writing our constitution and Savarkar did it by writing Hindutva. One bought equality into law and other into people's hearts and mind. That is why both of them respected each other so much.
I really admire br Ambedkar but remind you he was not the only one in drafting the constitution...
And many worked for it.

Similarly the recitation of vedas by extension (since only an initiated person could recite them sanctimoniously) was also barred from other everybody else. This is vedoktabandi.

Never in school I heard about Savarkar ji for the first time I heard his name in Aakash banerjee video where he was telling how BJP is trying to paint him as Freedom fighters and his apology letter was instilled in my mind and till this video I was thinking he was just a guy who was jailed and later wrote apology letter.
