I'm a swedish woman married to a swedish man, he was too romantic for me at the beginning (I don't like flowers, jewlery or other akward things like dinners at restaurants) I told him to stop so he did.😅 He still buy me presents but things I want and need.
The alcohol-thing is so true (I don't drink myself because I don't like the taste or the effect) but most adult people around me like to binge-drink alkohol at the holidays and some weekends sometimes.
And the coffee, don't like that either, but almost every adult drink that here (I drink pepsi instead).

This often leads to you as the "chill out" getting more feedback than the "uninitiated" intended. I am usually quiet and love to observe rather than being involved, so approaching a guy first is a bit hard for me. @@izmabelle Nah....even though we might 'generally' don't make the 1st move or talk to strangers - it is not a rule in any way. We might be reserved - but not rude. Again - generally that is. ;-)
Also - at least if I'm to speak for myself....I feel like the Sun and sunlight plays a huge part in this whole 'debacle' (and lack thereof - it is 'dark' in Sweden/Scandinavia for like 8 months of the year! Buh...).
And I feel as if I get a lot more social in the summertime, or whenever I go abroad to a 'sunnier' country. The lack of sunlight really drains me of most of my 'social energy', so to speak...
And I'm quite sure it's not just me - since you can literally see how the entire social fabric changing whenever it's summer: most people 'lit up', loosen up and all of a sudden you can see people sitting close(r) to eachother, everywhere...like, sitting down to eat and/or drink (coffee, beer or anything else) outside suddenly 'blooms up' from nowhere, everywhere!
It is hard to describe if you haven't experienced it yourself, if not impossible.
Either way - the 'sun-thing' I just described, that surely isn't just my experience...(I've had friends coming from all over the world who 'reports' the same 'phenomenon' - after having lived here for a few years they, much to their own amazement say that they too start to 'hibernate' during the winters...wherever they're originally from! Not all of them, naturally - but many, if not most...).
But like I said - if you haven't lived and felt for yourself what the lack of sunlight does to your psyche...you just cannot understand it.
Well, this is at least my theory - that the weather/climate have played a huge part in shaping our cultural 'norms'.

Girls , about gifts, just tell them the truth about what you want, and tell them that gifts or flowers are important to you, and you would like him to give them to you more often. Just talk to them more what you feel and want! They can't read your mind 😂 and newer newer ask him to buy you something like a surprise, just choose show and say straight when you don't say what you want, in most cases he will give you just a gift card, for hb and christmas 😂 it's funny but without hints, they don't understand it, but when you say what you want, you get 1000%
By the way , i do not think about extensive gifts anymore , i’m just enjoying our life together.

Swede here, I relate to a lot of these, but with platonic relationships. Most of my Swedish friends (out of the ones I know in real life) are terrible at responding, anti-social and shit at planning stuff when we want to hang out. Like... can't we just meet up and have a chat or some shit instead of having to plan activities? 😭 And they 4/5 times will cancel our plans of meeting up because they're tired, suddenly have guests, because their parents said something, or (if it's during school) because they already went home when they KNOW we were supposed to hang out. They piss me off.
Of course not all Swedes are like this, but it's true that most of us are non-confrontational and introverted. My Swedish online friends are pretty good at responding and showing that they care about my existence, though, lol.
But because I've grown tired of my Swedish irl friends, I started going to the foreigners instead when I started high school. They're definitely more social and the best people to go to if you're starved for social interaction and live in Sweden.

Being a Czech, I have to admit, that we're really similar to Swedes. We are also shy, when want to approach a girl. Our 🍺🍺🍺 are helped us with it. Men and women are really equal here too. Women usually pay themselves because they are confident and also they don't feel obligated to you. Czech men are good in the kitchen and are able to prepare meal. At least me and my friends can. (Only I don't prefer IKEA like a shop for furniture.)
Maybe there is a little different in dating place in Czechia. On date we like walking to the nature or walking around the city and after walking we go to the pub (in nature special to a pub on the top of hill) or do some picnic in city-park or on the river bank, where you can feel more romantic. And most people are conflict-free and non-confrontational.

I dated a swede and we didn’t work out. I must say the cultural differences were too big, we were polar opposite in every aspect but due to that I guess it was an interesting experience overall. I can definitely relate to the video. My best advice would be that if you’re from a different culture and want to date a swede, you might want to bear in mind the cultural differences and prepare for them prematurely because depending on where you’re from this crucial factor could come into play in your future relationship.

We had different views on literally everything: way of life, family and household organisation, dating, politics etc. I don’t come from a super traditional background but Russia as a whole is still a vastly traditional country so now you can imagine what kind of differences we had. And in general, I knew nothing about Scandinavian way of life, minimalistic, practical, individualistic, progressive. So, if you’re into gentlemanly manners, courting like in romances with knights and all that, this is not your guy.

After watching this video as a Swede I agree with almost everything mentioned in the video. Laughed so much about the note thing, from time to time this appears in the entrance of an apartment building from an annoyed neighbour and usually the problem is then solved. Also about responding the text message, this is very individual but I can easily take several hours to a day before responding and I know several of my male friends are the same.
Though something I did not agree about is that Swedish men are represented as being awkward or quite for a long period of time. It really depends on the chemistry and if the person is comfortable but also individual characteristics. Most people here is actually very talkative when you get to know them but if they are not then it’s also ok and not seen as a problem.
And btw fika in this context is seen as a moment to get to know each other and how well you fit and enjoy talking to each other. This date looks very awkward and i would consider them not a great fit.
Thanks for a great video, would be fun if there also was one for Swedish women!

Countryside and smaller town-Swedes practically only tick the fika and individualistic box in this video but as for the other points the opposite is true. Except for the mildly complaining note-thing, now that I think about it we all do that for some reason. Probably because conflicts arisen from petty matters are quite rare so we expect to resolve things by simply remarking on them.

as a danish man in my 30ies i feel alot of it is common to some of the things you experiance since many of the values are the same.
for instance i can remember in my early years at uni, i invited this women out and I for a long time just stood there and said not a lot because i was nervous.
Then i started drinking to get some courage to flirt more with her. But Then i found out she didnt drink like at all and it was pretty awkward. Even more so when she started flirting with other men - while we where out. As a perhaps typical nordic man i havent said it directly that I saw it as a date, so she thought it was just another night out :D
also I remember on a second date with another woman, I somehow said a freudian slip about getting married with her. She was like "what did you say!?" i really had to make her think i was talking about something else to save it. You dont do that at all because we are not a culture that value fast commitment that much.
love it or hate it, alcohol is certainly something we use as a social lubricant. And we can be somewhat indirect in our ways - but belive me, there is often alot of emotions and thoughts going on in the back of our minds.
ps the way we address problems with neighbors are true since many that are living in cities also live in big appartment blocks, non-profit housing companies owning them. Having democracy in local boards, that try to agree on rules for living together is pretty common. And we try to adress such problem in a non-confilctorial way - even if such problems can most certainly end in drama.
But one of the most poplular radio shows that deals with daily dilemmas, one of the most common themes are always "how do i in the best way tell my neighbors that what they are doing is really annoying, but i dont want to say it like that" :P

Spending years in Sweden as a female having lived in North America and UK, I realise that men ask for sex openly as strangers, apparently that’s normal to have sex before friendship or dates to gauge whether they have a good match, dating first wouldn’t happen like in many other countries. Random sex is very common, I felt like everyone was sleeping with everyone, this is generally among younger people and social drinking bars/clubs.

I think it's fair to define what the word "dating" means to be honest. I think when most people think about the idea of a "date" it can essentially be described as a get-together with someone you're attracted to with the intention of doing something more lavish or unusual, which might help explain why Swedish men comes off a bit differently. At large it is because Sweden *doesn't* have a strong dating & pick-up culture. Unless it's a drunken one-night fling you're not usually going to pick up girls or guys at a pub and in some cases you'd probably weird the target of your interest out a bit. People go out mostly to have fun with their friends, not meet strangers.
Generally speaking I find most people who get into a more serious relationship usually do so after first becoming best friends as a process of taking things more slowly and if you click, have things come naturally without the word "date" or sometimes even "relationship" being talked about until it is serious. It's just sort of a given till then. If you change the context from "Going on a date with a potential lover" and replace it with "spending time with a best friend (though with added benefits)" this less extravagant approach to "dating" would probably make more sense. The only real issue with it is of course that intention doesn't come out as strong and giving mixed signals as to whether they're interested in you to begin with.
