@@EcsMurphy An excellent book by Ray Bradbury - set in a rather dystopian world. If you read it, you will see why it is appropriate for the book chute.
Killing the robots in the test isn't a glitch, Stealth Suit comments on it. "Oh, that's too bad. Those robots would normally help defend us and the facility if we're attacked." and "We were never allowed to blow the robots up before. Cheating gives me such a thrill!"
It also makes perfect sense as an intended thing in the game. It's a way to apply actual real world cleverness, which is something Obsidian has always done and is just good game design. It only feels weird because so many games RPGs these days force you to play them in a certain way and don't want you to think outside the box. Possibly because they don't want to properly test their games.
It's also an RP choice, a very smart but not very physically adept character would probably try to do something like this while someone who is nimble would rather do the stealth test because they have no problem doing that anyways. It lets you make RP choices outside of dialogue which I appreciate. And it is extremely in character for Useless Steve to do this because he was literally the man that cheated and tricked his way through the Mojave. @@ManyATrueNerd I'm not sure how exactly the level scaling works on some of the OWB enemies - I think it's actually slightly bugged because there's meant to be lower level variants of Lobotomite that never spawn, and the Mk2 Robo-Scorpions that are meant to exist never spawn either which is why you ran into the Mk3s, which are also level 25. Can't find much information on the OWB Nightstalkers and Cazadores though. I know all the unique enemies like Super Ego are level 50 though. All unique ROBOTS (as far as i can deduce) are level 50 confirmed, I scanned Iron Belly and Super Ego, they all spawned with the health they are said to spawn with at level 50 I found on the wiki that Mk1 and Mk1b Variants of the roboscorps do exist, and that they would be LEVEL 5 if they spawn, AND that Mk3s follow suit with the rest of the robots The numbers (Little Yhangzee Uniques) Have over 300 health, this implies at least a level of 30 if not 50 Nightstalkers are a bit weird, they have a low level of 15 normally, but a level 15 variant has 110 health. These nightstalkers as I scanned at now level 2, have 226 health, indicating that they are either double level, or beefed up for just this DLC Trauma Harnesses all spawn at level 25, I was not able to cross check the health because of the name being so long but the wiki has been right so far in my cross checking so I am inclined to believe it. Sporeplant/Spore Monsters(?) I did not test EVERY unique, and for some reason could not find a cyber dog. I did not figure out anything about The Think Tank itself, or Mobius. Cazadores I did not scan, but using these pieces of info (and the fact that cazadores are midgame enemies in the base game anyway) we can make a safe assumption that they will follow a similar pattern.
RE: sneak being bugged New Vegas had a bug where 50-100 sneak was useless because anything above 50 doesn't do any good. In order to counter this in old world blues, the marked men in lonesome road and a few other DLC characters cheat and apply a reduction to your sneak before calculating if you sneak around(marked men being the worst and applying a 70 point reduction meaning that even with 100 sneak you're never going to be better than 30 sneak as far as the game is concerned, although temporary buffs can still take you above 100 for the same of the ignored value). Useless Steve is being spotted so often because as far as the game is concerned for a lot of enemies he has 0 sneak and no useful perks like light step.
That is mentioning that sneak has no effect on what kind of guns you can get past the frisks. The NPCs in old world blues and lonesome road just have higher perception than most enemies in the game. So they can see you from a long-distance making having high sneak the only thing that could see me was the legendary creatures in that DLC. Having sneak above level 50 is really the only way you can be actually hidden in this DLC. Now for the fact that he got caught in the simulation. I found out that based on your sneak in his case is about 52 the Robobrains only have to have a line of sight to see you for the test to be over. If you have sneak 100 you can be as close as a couple of meters right in front and they won't catch you but 50 as long as they catch you in their sight cone witch is around 180 degrees in front of them to get caught. But even though it only says that the NPCs have around 5~8 perception it is closer to 9~12 perception.
As far as i remember, there was also the fact that during making of both lonesome road and OWB they had set negative perception for some enemies- which in fallout speak is all the perception in the world.
Jon stop going into stealth, your stealth (and level according to game calculation ) are so low that attempting to sneak makes you EASIER TO FIND than if you ran around without crouching. Same deal as the tunnlers from dust, they were due to a glitch in that case but in practice it is essentially the same
This brings up an intresting question... At what point do Stealth become as useful as just walking/running? As in, where is the threshold of Stealth being useful?
The major downside to the tarantula setting on the sonic emitter is that it uses up a full 3 cells per shot, whereas most of the other settings tends to be one or two, just something to consider
If you have the Vigilant Recycler Perk, that increases your chances of keeping the drained batteries instead of just throwing them away. Same goes for Hand Loader Perk.
@@D.Jay. Hahahahahah Trust me, you will see later in the video how much longer that ammo lasts. He at least has that 200 bulk ammo, but I dunno if he will resort to using that
Tarantula is the strongest weapon in the game actually, with the right guild you can literally one shot everything in the game including all the legendaries even the bloatfly and the giant robo scorpion. It’s special ability does more damage than anything else by a longshot especially with pyromaniac and better criticals it blows everything else away.

Useless Steve: *Warps through a prison wall using an outhouse to avoid detection* Also Useless Steve: "Those stealth boy rewards for running the stealth mission feel a bit cheat-y..."
A long late answer to this. Because of Fallout 3 & New Vegas' aim assist, rather than snapping your crosshair to the target, it arcs the bullets towards the enemy. This gets better (and the described less weapons spread) the higher your guns or energy weapons skills. With Jon using an XBOX 360 controller (instead of a newer XB1 controller, which i believe he said feels too big or something.), the windows version of 3 & NV ported over the same 'tracking bullet' aim asistance if you plug in a controller. So, spraying at 1m - 10m or 100m from the target still means you can viably hit shots, the AI on the other hand also takes range into consideration, but is often worse than a player. Remember Jon has literal thousands of hours in 3 & NV, if it didn't work, i doubt he would do it. In YOLO he wont take many shots in V.A.T.S till theyre 80% or higher, even in the early game. Spray and pray here is just that it just doesn't matter if he gets hit, in a non YOLO run med items are plentiful, and trade for medicine is easy. Same goes for ammo. (Example, chewing through 5.56mm in FO3, just buying or trading 30-40 caps for 30-40 bullets from any and every vendor you see, in an hour or two you will have 1000-1500 rounds) Its a different era of game, not every round is precious, you just have to look around. (I assume Jon does, just cuts it. A 40ish minute video takes 2ish hours to record, theres alot we dont see.)

Legends say that Useless Steve wandered down an alley in The Strip, and events that (not entirely known to the universe) led Steve to strange lands called Boston. While in Boston events (not entirely known to Useless Steve) led Useless Steve to having a child. When asked what he would name the child, the useless man simply stated what he had eaten for breakfast. BACON.
redrune4314 I’d like to think that useless Steve and his relatives are responsible for all the action in the fallout universe. They aren’t usually the main characters, they’re just fumbling around in the background accidentally setting the dominos in motion. A distant cousin of useless Steve, Useless Richard, is a part of the commonwealth minutemen and accidentally tips the gunners off that they’ll be in Quincy, leading to the Quincy massacre. He then escapes and stumbles across the institute, accidentally freeing some synths, tipping off the railroad. Finally, far to the north of Boston, he finds a prewar vault where he can rest and bandage his wounds. In trying to fix himself up, he mortally wounds himself, causing a spurt of blood to fry a control panel. The last thing he hears before his life ends is “critical error, suspending cryogenic freeze”
Anyone else notice that when Jon is doing a legit run, he plans pretty extensively & his more blunt plans usually fail...& in Useless Steve, he's literally beating enemies with a blunt object & it's working better than anything he's ever put his hands on?
my wife was even worse doing the stealth suit tests ... she went upstairs and jumped down into the office from above bypassing the whole test fort the most part
Pro tip: if you need a fat mine but dont have the perk to make them you can just drop a mini nuke and put a frag mine next to it. works the same as a fat mine (but you have to deal with fallout physics)
I'm actually loving the Useless Steve runs. Given the major ways that everything is stronger then you, you're doing surprisingly well. Also, watching him swing an enormous, goofy antenna is hilarious.
I feel like when Useless Steve gets to Lonesome Road, all the beatings he has taken should make him so shaky that he can no longer use guns. Feels like melee weapons never get enough love in your Fallout playthroughs and this would also up the challenge. Though there's more fun melee weapons in OWB of course.
Is it wrong that I love watching Jon's meticulously planned run unravel a little more each episode? Don't get me wrong I love the detailed knowledge Jon has of the modern Fallout games but it's wonderful to see him kept on his toes and trying to figure out a new plan on the fly.
Roboscorpions: NO! We are the second level scorpions! We have more HP and DT/DR so you cannot just whack us dead with a ripped off anthenna! Useless Steve: haha zappy stick goes whack-smash!
Higgs Village is 100% safe, Jon says. What Jon may forget there is a mini-sized, but fully-damaging deathclaw in Gabe's doghouse, if you're toting Wild Wasteland.
My headcanon is that the stealth tests were meant to be observed by an actual person, so not ALL of the test was properly automated against cheating. After all, an actual observing human would notice that hey, the robots are all destroyed, so the automatic portions of the test don't account for that.
Thank you for another great video, Jon. I have always enjoyed Fallout New Vegas, and Old World Blues is my 2nd favorite DLC. i like to think useless steve is just shouting about how hidden he is while crouching, alerting enemies that you would not normally have to worry about standing up.
Ahh, New Vegas melee- the most overpowered thing. Well, maybe not versus a max level perked out sniper. But melee is just damned good and stays damned good, pretty much forever.
Jon, Old World Blues has a bug: "When entering the Big Empty at a low level, the enemies encountered and items carried by enemies may be the ones that are only supposed to appear for players level 20-30." That's why you're getting obliterated.
A fun challenge might be to play as Conan the Barbarian. In D&D terms he was a Barbarian/Thief cross-class. So, the focus would be on Stealth+Melee+Lockpick+Survival.
24:00 Everyone just hates Useless Steve. I imagine the moment Steve enters an area, every living thing feels a never ending rage that is only quelled by harming this man.

Just remember Jon, Nightstalkers stop when they attack so as long as you keep running, they can't easily hit you. Useful for getting through the Hexcrete Archipelago
I like to image that the reason useless steve Is so bad at stealth is less because of his poor sneak stat and more of him not realizing that shouting and narrating his own actions causes people to notice him and want him dead
I've played New Vegas on and off since about 2012 and have hundreds of hours wrapped up in it. I've never noticed that the radios are branded 'Radiation King'. There's so much depth in this game that they have even included an obscure Simpsons reference...
sorry MATN but higgs village isnt 100% safe, if you have the Wild Wasteland perk there is a very very tough little Deathclaw that spawns at level 30 and has 850 HP i remember because the first tie i played through OWB he rekt me i was only able to defeat him by throwing piles of explosives at him.
I agree. New Vegas didn't feel graphically dated compared to other games of its time, but Fallout 4 most certainly did; not enough to bother me, but enough for me to notice it, definitely.
While New Vegas is definitely one of my favourite games all times, Fallout 3 is still my favourite of the series. Despite all of it's shortcomings, the storyline, the apocaliptic capital wasteland, all that made it more credible that I was in an post-apocalyptic world. In that regard, New Vegas just seems like a post-apocalyptic nightmare on LSD, which is cool, but doesn't grab me as much.
The enemies are abit bulletspongy in 4 and 76 amd in the latter it is a problem since sinking 400 rounds of .50 cal in one legendary enemy really hurts. Also three missiles and a mininuke. An all I got was a useless legendary.

Consensus: I am going into Old World Blues to test this out to see exactly what the levels are for people in OWB, I entered OWB at Level 1, and left the Sink at level 2 I gave myself living anatomy and godmoded myself to go around unharmed to collect data. (I was tempted to NCL but i tried and a lot of triggers just snapped in half and decided not to trigger)
Lobotomites: 25 → 35 → 50 with 136 HP at their lowest
ALL ROBOTS MK3:, MK1s DO SPAWN, they have lower health, John However is getting MK3 Variants which have 375 health, and are Level 35
IF A MK1 Spawns, it is level 25 with 225 health as it’s base.
Using this info we can deduce that MK3 Variants are level 35, the health seems to be similar in some,
A Mk3 Gutsy has the same health as a Mk3 Damaged Securitron that I just scanned after writing this.
All unique ROBOTS (as far as i can deduce) are level 50 confirmed, I scanned Iron Belly and Super Ego, they all spawned with the health they are said to spawn with at level 50
I found on the wiki that Mk1 and Mk1b Variants of the roboscorps do exist, and that they would be LEVEL 5 if they spawn, AND that Mk3s follow suit with the rest of the robots
The numbers (Little Yhangzee Uniques) Have over 300 health, this implies at least a level of 30 if not 50
Nightstalkers are a bit weird, they have a low level of 15 normally, but a level 15 variant has 110 health. These nightstalkers as I scanned at now level 2, have 226 health, indicating that they are either double level, or beefed up for just this DLC
Trauma Harnesses all spawn at level 25, I was not able to cross check the health because of the name being so long but the wiki has been right so far in my cross checking so I am inclined to believe it.
Sporeplant/Spore Monsters(?) Spawn at level 15 when normal, their health however was around 260 for me when at 15 they are 150. they are only in one location for each, and as per the usual their unique are both level 50 (Patient Zero and Dionaea Muscipula)
Conclusion: Sneak is worthless Jon as 99% of the DLC scales to 10+ levels above your current one, I suppose you COULD take advantage of the lower level enemies with sneak 100, but that just doesn’t seem like it is going to happen if this person's comment is to believed.
I did not test EVERY unique, and for some reason could not find a cyber dog.
Is that marked out in like the Creation Kit or anyrhing?
Gotta love a good bit of negative integer overflow
Also, in dead money ghost people have 0 Perception, which then becomes infinite.
Jon stop going into stealth, your stealth (and level according to game calculation ) are so low that attempting to sneak makes you EASIER TO FIND than if you ran around without crouching. Same deal as the tunnlers from dust, they were due to a glitch in that case but in practice it is essentially the same
And the fact that when he sometimes sneaks, he has the pitboy light on. Which is this character in a nutshell.
@@sylveriron2575 ah yes, the Pit-Boy 3000

The major downside to the tarantula setting on the sonic emitter is that it uses up a full 3 cells per shot, whereas most of the other settings tends to be one or two, just something to consider
If you have the Vigilant Recycler Perk, that increases your chances of keeping the drained batteries instead of just throwing them away. Same goes for Hand Loader Perk.
@@D.Jay. Hahahahahah
Trust me, you will see later in the video how much longer that ammo lasts.
He at least has that 200 bulk ammo, but I dunno if he will resort to using that
@@D.Jay. he HAD a ton of ammo. He was burning through it rather fast in this episode.
@@huguesdepayen1 really?? Never knew that.. I always thought the sonic emitter sucked.. liked I’ve used it alot to save on ammo but never seen it accomplished anything..

he refuses to use the proton ax or the saturnite fists...and build into melee or unarmed....in VATS is really effective

Jon, a solution for your ammo problem:
pick up normal bullets, sell them to the sink, buy more energy ammo. It restocks and you are sleeping to heal relatively often.
It takes forever to restock, unless you're actively sleeping the days away.
Or dont use the tarantula version because it uses multiple cells per shot
@@tuxedoederminenaswall3751 I'd be spamming sleep to restock the store and using science to make overcharged ammo as soon as possible in Jon's position. He needs any advantage he can get.

As someone who's first time playing this DLC was with a melee oriented character, I loved seeing the antenna being essential for Jon's survival. The knockdown perk for melee attacks is awesome against those damn scorpions, even when there's many of them. That was the most fun I've had with this DLC. Gun characters were fun too, just not as much as that brute.

Old world blues
Reposting my comment from last week, because at 1:10:26 Jon specifically drew attention to the fact Sneak wasn't working as he expected it to! "Putting points into Sneak probably isn't going to help Useless Steve much - it's a lesser known thing about New Vegas that Sneak isn't just a function of your sneak skill, it's also a function of your level relative to the enemy's level! If they outlevel you then they're really likely to spot you. It's why every single DLC seems to have weirdly perceptive enemies compared to the base game - they scale up with you so they're often equal to you or higher in level. But the game doesn't assume you're mad enough to run into a DLC at level 1. According to the Fallout wiki the minimum Lobotomite level is 25, so that's why every single Lobotomite in the world immediately charged you when you stepped outside. I doubt Useless Steve is ever going to hit level 25 so he's just going to be getting spotted by Lobotomites and Trauma Harnesses throughout the run whether or not he invests in Sneak. Remember the Tunnelers in Dust before you installed the Tunneler Fix mod that lowered their levels? It's the same problem here. I think you might actually attract less attention if you don't crouch."

Steve’s Great-great-great-etc grandpa was the one who accidentally sent Vault 13’s spare water chips to Vault 8
Anyone else notice that when Jon is doing a legit run, he plans pretty extensively & his more blunt plans usually fail...& in Useless Steve, he's literally beating enemies with a blunt object & it's working better than anything he's ever put his hands on?
Tard strength, don't ya love it??
I replayed Old World Blues just last month, it's a hoot seeing Useless Steve run through it. Awesome.

John, shoot the scorpions in the tail, thats where they have the least armor.
Melee is broken in Fallout
there needs to be a mod where the VATS sound is changed to "oh shit here we go again" everytime you use VATS on a enemy
The Toaster and the lesser appliances make more than up for the somewhat limited world and gameplay in OWB.
Is it wrong that I love watching Jon's meticulously planned run unravel a little more each episode? Don't get me wrong I love the detailed knowledge Jon has of the modern Fallout games but it's wonderful to see him kept on his toes and trying to figure out a new plan on the fly.

My headcanon is that the stealth tests were meant to be observed by an actual person, so not ALL of the test was properly automated against cheating. After all, an actual observing human would notice that hey, the robots are all destroyed, so the automatic portions of the test don't account for that.
Anyone else find it surreal to watch Jon *willingly and purposefully* use healing items?
Thank you for another great video, Jon. I have always enjoyed Fallout New Vegas, and Old World Blues is my 2nd favorite DLC. So basically, how people kill deathclaws normally.
I don't know why, but I prefer Fallout 3 and New Vegas graphics and mechanics to 4 and 76.
I agree. New Vegas didn't feel graphically dated compared to other games of its time, but Fallout 4 most certainly did; not enough to bother me, but enough for me to notice it, definitely.
I like em all but 76 because it’s pay 60 for trash and to play that trash with the full experience you must pay 10 dollars a month
