Good choice! Another happy Wahoo owner here:) As for the sync, the unit needs your Wifi to be present the moment you press Stop. That works for me every time. If the default Wifi is not present, I'm pretty sure it uploads that one also the next time you press Stop after your next trip. Otherwise you need to do it manually over the app. Main benefits for me are the much much better battery life (18hrs is claimed for the Elemnt and that is really not far off), super easy to operate, very good map readability, navigation is limited but very good for my purpose, I use Ridewithgps.com to create the (turn-by-turn) routes. I chose the Elemnt over the Bolt because of the screen size, otherwise it's the same unit.
The problem I have with most bike computers (and why I love my Garmin 1000) Is the reliance on a phone. What happens if your phone battery dies, can you navigate using just the wahoo? What if you are in a country that you don't have a data plan for, can you still navigate? I like that my Garmin is a true navigation device (like a tomtom) without a phone. If I have a problem and need a hotel, not a problem Garmin can tell me where the nearest one is, the same for shops. POI, petrol stations etc. Which is part of what you are paying for with a Garmin, but for me worth every penny. It also looks like the street names don't show on the wahoo map. In a lot of places in the UK, especially cities where there are a lot of junctions and streets close together having the name of the street is really helpful, even just to confirm you are on the right road. The color on my Garmin also comes in really handy on routes that you cross over the same road, it shows the route in one color and the where you've ridden in another. I know Wahoo people love to dis Garmin, which I don't get, everyone has different preferences and choices.
Fair points, but you're comparing a completely different type of model. The 1000 is more of an exploration model and those features should only be compared to the wahoo roam, not the bolt. The modern same level garmin I believe still has the same restraints?
@@TwoWheelCruise I get your point, the roam adds colour, but still can't do any of the navigation on the device nor does it have street names. If you get a cheaper garmin that is around the same price range as the Wahoos you still get proper navigation and you still get street names. My husband's 8 year old Garmin 800 (still going strong) has all of the navigation features.that mine does. Being older it doesn't have the wireless connectivity but it's been going strong for 8 years (mine is now 5 years). That's good value for money.
That navigation feature sounds like it would come in handy in some situations. I unfortunately had some bad experiences with my old 520. Some parts were great, but I couldn't stand the UI. I heard it has improved in the new model though.
I just bought the new Edge 530... I was going to wait for the Wahoo Roam but they just delayed the launch by another month.... and couldn't wait.. Riding season here in Canada is too short as it is and a month wait is too long. But, I love the Garmin as my first computer. I just finished building an aero carbon bike with Di2 and boy oh boy. Love reading my gears on the screen. Right now I am waiting for 4iii to add their Power Meter on my crankarm... then I'd be able to experience that too... Thanks for the review BTW.
Thanks! Any computer is better than no computer. I bet the display of the gear data feels awesome. Hopefully I'll get to experience that one day myself. :)
I've recently purchased one myself (for similar reasons). It works brilliantly, although I've also had the issue with it not automatically uploading to Strava. If it happens: Open the Elemnt app > History > Click on the ride > Click the three buttons on the right (I'm using android although I suspect it will be similar on IOS) > Click 'Resync Workout' > And it should now be on your Strava account
Thanks for the tip! I Have no problem with it uploading once I open the app, but I want it to upload automatically after I finish my ride without opening the app (which it does sometimes already). Someone here commented saying it has to do with the timing of ending your ride and having a wifi connection available.. Will test today
@@TwoWheelCruise Agreed, it's nowhere near as seamless as I was hoping for. Although that workaround will stop you faffing through the settings like I've done after my last two rides. I was unpairing it and everything.
@@TwoWheelCruise I think it's ace 😎. I don't know whether you've tried it with gloves yet (not fingerless) but it's impeccable, better than any touch screen.
You have to open the Wahoo app after your ride and Strava will to load immediately. Of course, one has to set Strava as one of the app it upload your ride data. Great review and enjoy the Bolt. I've had my Bolt a year and it's been great with constant update to the app and unit.
Thanks for the info! Yeah, it works when I open the app, but with my old garmin, it would automatically upload without having to open the app, which was nice.

the power buttom allows u to access the 'main menu' options, default at setting light profile is important for me, because it doesnt has an intelligent light profile (auto light up at 7pm-6am, off during 6am-7pm, wahoo please add this) the main menu allow setup top led light for diff profile, quick setup to off the gps for indoor ride, setting up your sensors. for the auto-upload to work properly, you need to exit the summary report, (do not instantly off the unit after exiting the summary) give it some time to connect your wifi (not phone, but the wifi u setup it to connect to) u get to know about it by pressing the power button to go to the main menu, and u get to see the wifi icon blinks, when it stop blinking usually mean its done uploading. sometimes is the strava server side having issue that it wont upload properly.
Great Video. Love Wahoo options. But could not help but be distracted by the BMC Bike on the rack behind. Hopefully you do a bike introduction for the BMC :)

You probably figured it out but, while I don't have a Wahoo yet, other navigation/map programs i use ask to display language, and separately ask to display maps with local language or romanization. I like the Kanji so I don't mind seeing it provided the tiny nuances show up with the resolution the unit has. I ride my bike in Japan but in the southern part on 沖縄 and 石垣島. Theft is very low and I don't worry as much there as in the US.
Something I didn’t notice at first is that the power button is also the menu button. Push it just once instead of holding it down and it will take you to a menu that shows battery life, sensors, etc.
If you plan on going on a longer tour you might want to sign up to Komoot or RideWithGPS. That way, you can plan your tour on your computer (or with Komoot, on your phone), sync with your Bolt, and then have the whole tour on it, with turn by turn navigation. I have a Bolt, an ELEMNT, and a ROAM. I actually like the ELEMNT and the Bolt better than the newer Roam, the ROAM is a bit sluggish to use, which the others aren't.
Looking into getting this computer. What sensors do you have for speed and candace? Also why are Sram cranks needed for power? Doesn't computer calculate power on its own? Thank you for review and love all your videos and enjoy watching them.
I really like the Bolt. If I had a road bike I’d probably get one. But I have a Bosch ebike so that already has a screen with quite a lot of data. They have a new one which also shows power and cadence, so I’m going to try and upgrade to that one if they do retrofit them. On my Brompton I wanted something for at least a speed reading, and I was looking at a Cateye one, but then eventually went for a Garmin 130 with the speed and cadence sensors. It’s not super important to have that data, but I just like having it. And it also helps me keep track of my overall mileage, which is nice. Only thing is it’s hard to get a mount that fits the M Shaped handlebars. Much easier for people who go with the flat bar.
It's a great little computer. I used to prefer more simple cycling computers, but it's hard to go back after being spoiled with so much data, which is always fun to look at during and after :)
Used it on my Brompton and it's perfect. Place the mount on the inner side of your grip itself which is the rubbery part and not on the lower portion of the M bar. I use an Ergon grip which has enough rubber to place the Bolt mount.
Really enjoyed the review! I noticed you have paired the Bolt with a power meter and heart rate monitor. Did you install the wahoo speed and cadence sensors as well, or are you just using the GPS to keep track of speed and distance?
hello.... big fan of your channel specially its a couple channel as well... are you still using your garmin ? can you give that out to me .. just want to experience a good computer 😁🚴
Watched several vids. You only get crumbs unless you get cues setup with Ride. App. Can’t redo turn by turn on the fly. That might explain it getting lost trying to give navigation on ride.
When I was buying my cycling computer, my choice was either Garmin 520 or Elemnt Bolt. Chose the Bolt because the setup was super easy and ease of use. And also, pretty much everyone was using Garmin. So decided to be get something different!
Have you used the navigation much? I'm really interested in one but want to know one thing. I hardly ever use maps but sometimes while out riding I could do with directions to somewhere. Can I use the app to find and send a route to the Bolt without it breaking up my ride?
Yes, this is one of my favorite features. If I get lost during my ride, I pull out my phone and use the "take me here" feature and it automatically loads the route to my computer. I can even do it quick enough during a red light stop and not waste any time.. Love it!
Great review in terms of user. I am also waiting for getting package of Wahoo Bolt. I wanted to have Wahoo Roam but they are still sold out for long time in Japan. It's almost twice price with bigger and color screen. I think Bolt is also great choice if you do not want to focus on visibility of navigation, color and big screen.
Thanks! I'd still choose the BOLT over the ROAM personally. Don't need that big of a screen, it does everything, more affordable, and more importantly available :)
Color has its advantages but the monochrome screen is perfect specially on bright sunny days. It's so much easy to look at. Simpler and I had no problems navigating with it. Besides when I'm riding I focus mainly on the road and not my bike computer.
Nice review! I'm thinking of getting the Bolt as my Garmin Edge 25's battery is struggling. I also may get the yellow version because my TCR is black & yellow!!! However, I worry about the life of the battery if, like you and I, we use it everyday - I'm sure that is what killed my Edge.
Thanks! Sounds like a similar situation to me. The problem with any computer is the battery will get weaker over time.. :( The battery life on this new guy is great so far though :)
HI. New subscriber here. My Garmin died and I looked at the Wahoo but ended up getting a replacement refurb Edge 1000 from Garmin. I'm definitely one of those who likes all the functionality to be on the device although I agree that it's a pain to set up Garmin's how you want them. I use the old Up Up Down English maps when I'm in Japan. It's good for most roads. I'm hoping to come back later this year at some point. I have unfinished business in the Kiso valley & I want to ride the Tobishima Kaido again but do some sightseeing this time.
Welcome to the channel! :) There's definitely some advantages to having full control in the unit itself, but it took me forever to figure out how to set up my old garmin. Once it's setup though, it's pretty good.. Minus the ridiculous number of steps to zoom in and out on the map. The kiso valley area is really beautiful. I'm hoping to do some more rides there this year myself :)
@@TwoWheelCruise for things like cadence and speed, and heart rate, can all that be captured by this device, and also work with apps like strava? if so, is everything needed to do that come with the computer (sensors etc.)?
Does the Bolt automatically connect to existing Garmin tech? I've got an Edge 500, so don't really want to buy a new heart rate monitor/speed and cadence sensor unit to go with the Bolt if I choose to upgrade.
TWC I have a couple of questions for you: 1) does this work with your Favero power meter pedals or did you get the Wahoo sensors? 2) does it allow you to download a route from Strava and give you guidance through the route? I can’t tell from Wahoo’s website. I am thinking of getting this same cycling computer.
@@TwoWheelCruise Before I buy this I have one question. I read that Garmin maps are way better especially in the Garmin 520 Plus compared to any Wahoo devices. Do you use maps? If yes, do you still prefer this over Garmin?
Hi, can you please answer: -is it possible to mount it directly on the upper tube of the frame (I mean near stem) -is it possible to upload on it gps tracks (how many/ how? Directly from strava?), name it and then choose the track from the menu list to go on it?
I hope you continue making more review on bike stuff, i was already hooked on your previous SANTIC clothing reviews. Maybe you could review SANTIC shoes soon since they look affordable. :)
Interesting I have the bolt and have just changed phones from Apple to Samsung. With the iPhone downloading a ride from my phone was no problem but the Samsung is very different I now have tovwaituntil I get home to download from my wifi it just will not sinc from the phone which is annoying when commuting let me know if you find a fix for this cheers Happy riding
I have no problem syncing if I open up the wahoo companion app and turn on bluetooth. But I still want to figure out if it's possible to automatically sync and upload to strava without opening the companion app after every ride
@@TwoWheelCruise on my iPhone 6s it did without any problems. Once I arrived at work it would automatically upload, but im not having the same results with this new Samsung
Set the option for wifi and the auto-upload in your wahoo companion app setting... And it will upload your riding automatically when bolt connect to the wifi... No need to open any apps even your phone..
Thanx for the review. Somehow I'm stuck with Sigma. Having the ROX 10.0 GPS at the time, I'm gonna buy the new ROX 12.0 Sport soon. Although being on the market for some years, the ROX 10 has great features for training and the collected datas are on the same level as the newest cycling computers. The bread-crumb map navigation is another story😄, but sufficient for Road navigation. I don't know if you use Komoot. I think it's a great app for mapping your rides and sharing it with others to follow your rides. I've checked the mapped tours in Japan and was surprized that Japan is like a black hole in that matter. I found almost no mapped rides. Although Hamburg is a flat piece of land, I can find thousands of them in my vicinity, even mtb tours. But in Japan...almost nothing including road bike tours. Any Idea why Komoot is so unpopular in Japan, or are there other equivalent apps which are used in Japan? Like Whatsapp vs LINE? ありがとうございます。
Thanks! I don't know about Komoot, I mostly use strava for all of my ride tracking/sharing. It's very popular in Japan, apart from for MTB where most people don't upload their rides intentionally since they want to keep trails a secret. The other apps you mentioned are just simple messaging apps
Two Wheel Cruise Keeping their tracks a secret? How heartless must one be to do so😳? Aren't we family and share our tracks with all😩? Never used Strava but maybe I should give it a try one day. I used Whatsapp vs LINE just to point out the differences in preferences between Asia and The western world. And I thought the same different preference was the reason why Komoot is so popular in Europe but not in Japan.
Hi, new subscriber here. Great review. Would you say this is a good unit if you only had a smartphone? You can probably guess that would me. Do you know how long, very approximately, obviously, the battery lasts when used as a navigating tool? I was advised to get a Garmin 820, but I can't find any decent information regarding its use without a pc/laptop, what are your thought? LBSs couldn't help much either. Hope you can help. Ben
Can someone tell, how to change the navi system? Instead simply "go left/right" arrow you have just straight arrow and horrible text field next to it, which is too long to read. The map although is fine.
Always ride with a battery backup it's a 36000 milliamp solar panel charger and light and compass ran about $25 On Amazon thay run $9 to $100 + if get low on power just plug in the battery backup go to go all day
Should i get a cyclocom first? I know that thing is great for training but i always thinking of I'd rather upgrade my parts than buying a cyclocom. But i do use basic cyclocom like cateye velo 5 if you call that a cyclocom lol
I used to be content with a regular cycling computer and never thought I'd need one of these more advanced computers. But once I got my first time, it was life changing. The navigation features and extra data is really useful, but definitely not a necessity. So maybe best to prioritize parts first if on a budget
I hear that login page does not automatically choose gender. There is algorithm that uses front camera and concluses from users outfit to suggest gender. ;)
I also have same color, haha. Anyway,I never used another brand but I'm dissapointed for some points of. That oficial mount impossible to charge while riding, GPS monitor useless, battery life is too short for using long riding. And the worst point is that weired JP translation. I have the regular Wahoo Elemnt which is a bit bigger than the bolt and I love it :)
It's the same UI, right? If so then of course it's great :)
@@TwoWheelCruise Yes, it's the same UI
Happy Birthday... Saw this video a day late...
Thanks!
I also need to know the same thing, could you please inform us if we can use the existing garmin equipment with wahoo or not?
Yes, I was able to connect my Wahoo to my old Garmin sensors
Yesterday i rode 16 miles from where i live to Central Park in about an hour listening to music that's slow. That fast music will get you tired quick.
I listen to speed/death metal and maintain a cool 8mph just to be different.
Lol
Try updating maps.. Does it fail and reboot like the Roam?
Great review. Was looking to buy one.👍🇦🇺
Thanks!
Great info.. New subscriber here. How is it holding up after a year? Thinking of getting the Roam or Bolt but too expensive here (Kanagawa).
Thanks! Still doing great.
How many segments can the unit store? My 520 is limited to 100, curious if the Bolt can hold more?
TWC I have a couple of questions for you: 1) does this work with your Favero power meter pedals or did you get the Wahoo sensors? 2) does it allow you to download a route from Strava and give you guidance through the route? I can’t tell from Wahoo’s website. I am thinking of getting this same cycling computer.
Yes, they can connect and you need to download a proper route file with turn information for it to display that.
Cool tech! Tnx for the review man.
Thanks!
i'm thinking of getting this too.
Totally worth it!
@@TwoWheelCruise Before I buy this I have one question. I read that Garmin maps are way better especially in the Garmin 520 Plus compared to any Wahoo devices. Do you use maps? If yes, do you still prefer this over Garmin?
I've found the wahoo maps to be really good. Especially easy to select and download. Garmin 520 maps were always really slow for me
@@TwoWheelCruise ahh Thanks mate. I'm going to order it now then :). Looking forward to seeing you someday soon in Vietnam.
Thanks for the review. :D
Thanks for the comment :)
Hi, can you please answer:
-is it possible to mount it directly on the upper tube of the frame (I mean near stem)
-is it possible to upload on it gps tracks (how many/ how? Directly from strava?), name it and then choose the track from the menu list to go on it?
Yeah, you can mount it to your top tube I guess with the strap mount and bigger rubber bands. Don't know about GPS tracks
Hi There.Got wahoo elemnt bolt having trouble connecting garmin varia radar to work showing no wifi. thanks if you can help.
Excellent review while biking :)
I have the bolt and I have upgraded to Strava premium but can't get the segment on my screen???
Everything is connected good and you've starred the segment?
how is the GPS accuracy compared to Garmin? in the deep woods (MTB)
I haven't noticed any big differences, but haven't looked to closely at that yet honestly
For the strava segments, do you need to have strava summit?
I believe so
i have a wahoo how do u get back to lap 1 i got it on kms how do u put on miles
I don't believe you can go back to lap 1 once you've changed to a new lap.
Open the Companion app
Select "profile"
Choose "Metric" or "English"
I hope you continue making more review on bike stuff, i was already hooked on your previous SANTIC clothing reviews. Maybe you could review SANTIC shoes soon since they look affordable. :)
Thanks! Hopefully I get a chance to review them 🙂
Most of the close-up footage was out of focus? Using a DSLR or a ‘point and shoot’ ?
Once I arrived at work it would automatically upload, but im not having the same results with this new Samsung
same 😭
Set the option for wifi and the auto-upload in your wahoo companion app setting... And it will upload your riding automatically when bolt connect to the wifi... No need to open any apps even your phone..
Thanks for the tip, will give it a try!
Two Wheel Cruise
Keeping their tracks a secret?
Ben
Are you related to Thomas Middleditch by any chance?
Can someone tell, how to change the navi system? Instead simply "go left/right" arrow you have just straight arrow and horrible text field next to it, which is too long to read. The map although is fine.
Mine just says turn left/right, but I mostly just look at the route line which makes it pretty obvious for me
yeah, I was never a fan of their maps/navigation
can you down load your workouts and save to a site like you can with garmin?
Yep
Do you have a wahoo trainer?
Nope, just the computer
does this Elemnt Bolt give turn by turn navigation?
Cheers
Sure does
@@TwoWheelCruise would you spend the extra money on an element or element roam?
Now,a year later-would you still recomend it over 530?
I haven't used the 530 personally, but the UI has won me over.
Two Wheel Cruise
What is UI?

Always ride with a battery backup it's a 36000 milliamp solar panel charger and light and compass ran about $25 On Amazon thay run $9 to $100 + if get low on power just plug in the battery backup go to go all day
HOOOLY haircut change?
Sooo different :O
Haven't changed anything, maybe just a bad hair day? LOL
I have the same birthday. Makes me happy tho lol
9/3! 💪
Cool, but can it measure over 9000?
Gonna have to go super sayajin to find out
I need that t-shirt
How is it yoru no toki ni ? 😊
lights up good
@@TwoWheelCruise mou katta. Hontou ni arigatou. In friday ill test it out. I bought setto speed, cadence, hrm to issho ni. 😊
Can you turn off the segments stuff
Yep, pretty sure those settings are in Strava though
Seems like everyone is using this now. I'll get this tooo lol
Because it's way better! 😎
Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT & Xplova x5 evo. Who is more appropriate ?
PS - i am with Bryton rider 530 t .
Bolt
I hear that login page does not automatically choose gender. There is algorithm that uses front camera and concluses from users outfit to suggest gender. ;)
NEXT LEVEL! They know something I don't LOL 😂
I do not identify myself as male or a female but simply as a bi-cyclist.
I also have same color, haha. Anyway,I never used another brand but I'm dissapointed for some points of. That oficial mount impossible to charge while riding, GPS monitor useless, battery life is too short for using long riding. And the worst point is that weired JP translation. Sometimes I push anothr botton by mistake. I heard some above bad points are improved next Gen. But I don't know about JP translate.
Definitely a few things that could be improved on, but overall I'm liking it.
Tutturu... Nice Shirt.
TUTTURU!
If you want turn by tun
Turn by turn on the fly is not good.
New intro?
always trying something new ;)
Roam I think is better.
Yeah, I want to try one of those..
I will get one ,through the instructions out then get annoyed when I can’t work it
Have a nice day twc how much?
Thanks! In Japan, about 35,000 yen
WAHOO devices do not sync DOWNHILL Strava Live Segments and potential buyers should be aware.

Guess U will need to update contact address details for those birthday gifts, -:).
haha 😃 It was actually Thuong's birthday last week!
Super lol
