Jean Shrimpton on "What's My Line?"
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 ноя 2009
- With Henry Morgan and Pia Lindstrom (daughter of Ingrid Bergman) on the panel. My fave WML database has gone offline so I'm not sure of the episode date--early '67 I believe.

None of the current models can hold a candle to the "Shrimp!"
she was uniquely beautiful and sweet. there will never be another Shrimp!
she's so sweet...beautiful, humble and quite shy.
Epitome of Swinging London in the 60s. An Icon
She was and will always be the Face, a true Supermodel. Far above more beautiful that anyone of the present. Unfortunately, very shy.
Man! She was so beautiful I wanted to look like her too..I was only about thirteen when she first came to my attention and she was plastered through every seventeen magazine I had. We would practice making our eyes up like hers with that old black liquid eyeliner in a bottle . She was great at selling makeup --- I can recall looking specifically for what she was advertising ---- how else was I gonna be able to look just like her right?....seems centuries ago.
You are definitely spot on !
@@sueme1954 I copied the English girl school look, and Jean was my absolute ideal of beauty.I got out my copy of "Privilege" the other night and rewatched it.
Goldena Medina you know it’s funny because I’m 13 and I feel the same way
Same here. She was, like Brigitte Bardot , a true icon whom all girls wanted to look like them.
I hope you're a lady...
she was a print model - not runway. Unbelievably successful. Walked away from it at 33.
Heaven sent Miss Shrimpton!
she is stunning
The world was such a smaller place back then. It blows my mind that many times the panel successfully guessed who the Mystery Guest was by simply figuring out who happened to be in town that particularly week. Times were so much more intimate back then. Now people friggin' tweet and twitter! I wish we had a 'way back machine'........
I would go back in a flash. And basic hookers are the most popular people on earth right
now. It's a very crazy world out there.
Love how her hair flowed.
1 of the most beautiful & versatile models of all time....
She's my favorite model of all time.
am i the only one who thinks jean shrimpton was ahead of her time in terms of how she looked?
Yeah she looks so modern
She looked pretty standard 60s. The 60s style is the foundation to today’s modern fashion, maybe that’s why.
Possibly. She looked like all the other girls of her time. Twiggy was the avant-garde one, and did you see how Jean threw shade on her at the end? Jean's star had peaked, and Twiggy's look was taking over.
Jean Shrimpton looked great in a burlap sack from the barn. That's why her phone was always ringing.
@@Jocelyn_Jadeexactly this. Many trends and cultural shifts from the 60s have endured to this day.
As a teenager, I really wanted to look like Jean Shrimpton. I do wonder what she looks like now but I can be sure, she still looks better than me. LOL
Don't shortchange yourself, honey.
"She had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton in 1965" The Smithereens: Behind the wall of sleep
What a babe. Her hair is perfection and I want it.
Marvelous lady. Wonderful eyes, hair.. and feet.
Unassuming and charming human being !
Long Live Jean !
Such a beautiful woman. She was a friend of my dear father. She bought me a dress from Harrods when I was born. 💖
She was beautiful
I don't believe she is an arrogant person -- she was always terribly shy. Notice how after shaking hands with each panelist, she practically bolts off stage.
Agreed - She’s terrified not arrogant
Jean is so gorgeous ❤
Thank you so much for posting this. She was my IDOL when I was a teen!
Jean Shrimpton and Verushka were the two true first supermodels. Please tell Janice Dickinson she could never come close.
qtpysusie54 i know your comment is very old but YES thank you, i was just thinking the same thing! jean came even before twiggy! she and veruschka don't receive enough credit. janice dickinson is way in over her head and it's annoying that people listen to her when the truth is that she was far from the first supermodel. it's insulting to those who paved the way for her.
So agree!!!!
Actually,Suzy Parker and Dovima were the first
Thank you, agree
@@richardbois5696 No argument. It was the whole sixties revolution that influenced me. Other two before my time.
She caused an uproar in Australia in the late 1960s, when she wore a mini skirt to Australia's Premier horse race, the Melbourne Cup....the wowsers had a pink fit... She lapped up the publicity..... today it would not raise an eyebrow... How times change..
Beautiful women who seem arrogant are often just shy.
Gorgeous eyes on Jean
The Shrimp!
An absolute doll! I'd never heard of her, but she seems a very humble and charming lady for an early "supermodel". That dress would be striking on a dance floor but was a poor choice for this show- it didn't do her justice at all. Stunning looks, just the same.
Jean is responsible for the minishirt! Melbourne Cup in 1965, she scandalized a continent by showing up in an above the knee skirt....The Aussie matrons were shocked and the men were thrilled!
It was the swinging sixties, dude.
Cerf was amazing.
I'm addicted to these WML clips.
Thank you for posting!!!
Loved her
Bennett was no joke. Always knew what was happening in New York.
Thanks very much.
I'm in love again!
yes she looks lovely and knows it.
I agree - she looked uncomfortable even shaking hands!! Funny how someone has everything to be confident about, and can be that shy! I've seen her in other interviews, and she never seems to know what to say.
Not uncomfortable, just very English!
Such a beautiful face, the world's first true supermodel.
My idol :)
wow, that's what I call a "real" Supermodel
I was born 15 years after this aired on television
Episode 864 4 June 1967.
@EricandDish Those are some excellent choices!!!
That was her sister, Chrissie Shrimpton.
All you "oh Twiggy is THE Face of the 60's" NO SHE ISN'T. Pretty, waif-ish and that kookie eye makeup- but JEAN, IS A CLASSICALLY BEAUTIFUL, ELEGANT SHINY- HAIRED STUNNER, EYES LIKE SAPHIRES, TALL, REFINED, HAUTE -FASHION MODEL- THE PROFILE ALONE, THE VOICE, EVEN HER GIGGLE CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF JOURNALISTS. IN CANADA SHE WAS ASKED BY ONE OF OUR TOP TALK SHOW HOSTS, (NOT INTERESTED IN MODELS, generally vacous)- HOW MANY COATS OF MASCARA SHE WORE---I WISH I KNEW WHAT COLOUR THAT DRESS WAS AND WAS IT DESIGNED BY CAROLINE CHARLES, HER CLOTHES WERE SO FEMININE WITHOUT BEING TOO FROU FROU. JEAN DON'T HIDE, COME OUT, LIKE THAT OLIVER SONG SAYS...LOVE A FAN FROM CANADA WHO WILL ALWAYS CORRECT THE YOUNGER ONES ABOUT THE TWIGGY DECADE!
This is in America, not the U.K. here it was very different!
@roots66 Oh I thought you meant to say that she was the daughter of Cloris Leachman who played Phyllis Lindstrom on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I thought it was a fictional name.
Back when tv was clean and wholesome. Before corruption polluted it all.
@tupperwararty Very well stated.
John Daly's comb-over is a hoot.
Beautiful girl😊😊
Her beauty was natural, not contrived. She comes across as quiet and thoughtful.
@TheTubePortal Huh? Why would the daughter of a fictional character be on a game show panel? (Ingrid Bergman was once married to a man named Lindstrom.)
the problem with this show was that the panel members particularly Cerf and Kilgallen always knew which celebrities were doing promotion in NYC.
what did they say about twggy?
Jean is my great aunt.
June 1967: Henry Morgan's altercation / disagreement with Daly happened about 2 months before the infamous July 1967 live broadcast altercation / confrontation with Daly over Morgan's rude interruption of Bennett Cerf's introduction of Daly. After that incident, Morgan never again appeared live on WML Sunday night. Lindstrom and Shimpton (don't hate us because we're beautiful) make this a good night for pretty girls, but grouch Morgan and wolf Cerf take it down a couple of notches.
Does anyone know what she said after they mentioned twiggy? Thanks.
She was so English in just saying 'yes' and 'no' that it was too easy.
June 4th, 1967.
He guesses too fast.
She was not impressed bu those whistles.
she nicknamed the shrump
icon
She for sure had it all in looks and not so much in the personality department.. Although judging from a ten minute segment on what my line might not be entirely fair ......either that or maybe she was just shy
+ImSpotOn I read somewhere that Jean was extremely shy and uncomfortable in front of the camera and once told someone that "when you take off the make-up, I'm ugly". Not a lot of self-confidence.
It’s not lack of personality. Was very shy. Compared with the self inflated and marketed mediocres of this days she was different. I understand that Wintour humiliated her. Possibly lacked of good PR aids like everyone has today.
Not a Botox needle in sight! OMG! 🤩🤩
@63utuber see RUclips strange moments from What's My Line?
She could be Jacqueline Bisset.
@Overlorddz Of course she looks arrogant. She was the worlds first supermodel. LOL
Were they dissing Twiggy?
In what way?
Just 30 minutes! - Only 30 minutes.. that's not too much to ask, is it?
She's there promoting a hair range?
This episode aired June 4, 1967 - full episode ruclips.net/video/YHHp4h9PHXo/видео.html
This has to be the fall of 1966 since "Privilege" was filled at the time. I must admit, there's only three women from the 60's that I wished I would spend the weekend with and make love along the way: Ursula Andress, Elke Sommer,...and Jean Shrimpton (just like that scene in the just-mentioned "Privilege" where Shrimpton's character Vanessa is in bed with Steven Shorter). Please don't send negative comments to me because I'm expressing my feelings about women.
I remember Twiggy, but not this beauty. I wish I did.
what is it abt english and french girls is it in your cigarettes or sth?
Mrs. Lindstrom is a character from The Mary Tyler Moore Show named Phyllis. Since that's the case I think you mean to say she is the daughter of Cloris Leachman?
Pia Lindstrom was Ingrid Bergman's first and only child with husband, Lindstrom. The others were Rossellini's.
no botox, fillers , face lifts , orange skin wigs or Tattoos !…. and real class …
that's exactly what i was thinking! she's beautiful. but i've watched this show when Mia Farrow was on, and she was the opposite of Jean Shrimpton. Mia Farrow was super sweet, smiley and giggly.
I was 12 years old in 1967. I thought she was beautiful. I’m first generation American and no, I felt no need to see my face or skin color in the models I saw in magazines. As I got older I worked at Woolworth and was able to buy my clothes, shoes and handbags similar to what I saw in Glamour. I copied the hair and makeup. No triggers or trauma.
Taylor swift , i see here hahaha .
she looks great and I was a fan of hers...but sixties fashion was a lot better than what she's wearing on this program fashion model tho she was.
thumbs up if u came here from behind the wall of sleep
She dated mick jagger.
Not true.
That was her sister you total moron.
she looks like taylor swift to me lol
she looks like taylor swift
you mean Taylor Swift look like her.
+Gregory Adkins You mean, she doesn't. Jean is an incomparable beauty.
No way
They both have very feminine features. I can definitely see the resemblance.
Shouldn't models know how to walk?
Is the woman on the panel the one works for KGO San Franciscan? She looks & act rudely as hippies San Franciscans, gross
Porch light on, nobody home.
she looks pretty and arrogant
What a boring type the woman next to Mr bennet, it seems hippie quality, probably from Berkeley California or near by SF bay.
Sweden.
England
She was beautiful
