Hornby Dublo General Steam Navigation, better than the Dublo Gresley?

  • After finding a few faults with the Dublo Sir Nigel Gresley, I am a bit worried about the 2021 General Steam Navigation I have in my collection, I have kept it mint in box and just haven't even opened it or touched it to check it over.
Join me to see if I made a mistake in not checking this model when I first received it....
Oh and spoiler - It is perfection!

General steam navigation looks like a lovely locomotive. Shame the other one was less than perfect. Quality control is essential especially with limited editions. Thanks for showing. Regards Paul.

Just treated myself to the Hornby Dublo R30112 'Lamport & Holt Line' on the back of your video. My god what a beautiful Locomotive. Hornby's standards have improved tenfold recently with amazing releases. I have also added three of the latest 9F's to my fleet along with the outstanding Turbomotive. Whatever the approach Hornby are taking now may it long continue. With stiff competition from Bachmann, Accurascale, Rapido and Dapol they can ill afford another Hush Hush disaster.

We're all intrigued by what Hornby did to make you feel better about the Nigel Gresley! I appreciate that you don't feel able to share, but in view of them not replacing the item, I'm guessing at future purchase discount or money back. More important is that they act on the feedback and address the obvious failings in their QA process. Glad you're happy now too and your obvious delight at a blemish free model with the GSN this time is a pleasure to see. Oh, and that three-rail noise!

I am really not sure what I can say, but my plan is to use the loco now rather than it being one of those 'special' collector locos, so I hope that makes sense. I have preferred a blemish free loco, it such a lovely model. I do hope Hornby's QC picks up, maybe my Gresley was a one off. Anyway thanks for watching and I love the 3 rail noise, it great.

I really enjoyed this video. I am thinking of getting at least one of these models. I recently got an LMS Duchess of Sutherland model and its great. The video will come around September/October time as I have a lot of planned content. I cover N scale and OO Gauge mate. All the best from Northern Ireland.

I loved this . Years ago, we had a customer come in with his car I had never seen him or his car before. He said it was rough and only 47000 kilometres. I said it's the computer and at 47 k they all do it.
He went away then in few days manager gave me a letter to read.
It was from the manufacturer telling me to shut up or would sue.
Back to my fault " diagnosis " wild guess , I was right.

A fantastic review. Thanks very much. Just curious, but apart from the coal load, is the tender diecast as with the loco itself, or full plastic? Thanks, Greg, NZ

    • @dustyshelfcollectables

Full plastic I am afraid, Hornby refer to it as a 'traditional' tender as the older, latter dublo had plastic tenders. Thanks for watching and you kind words.

The quality control has come on leaps and bounds lol the wheels no longer just fall to bits on hornby rolling stock, they don't come out the box with wires just detatched, motors without brushes made it through to the customer.
Makes today seem really kinda good.
I collect stories of hornbys golden age being actually kinda crap cause it's hilarious to see how people moan these days without knowing

Hi, I think we are on the same page, I am aware of the ‘golden’ era quality, and I am a huge supporter of Hornby, when they get it right, which is much of the time, their models are superb hence why I bought the Gresley. I suspect my Gresley was a Friday afternoon model. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

@@dustyshelfcollectables friday job or a put together by some young person who's been detached from family and now lives in some poxy rented accommodation or communal factory apartment in a heavily industrialised place with massive wealth inequality authoritarian local and national government and probably has PTSD from the last several years of rolling and deeply unpredictable and overly harsh local lockdowns then has to put together toys for us that they could probably never own let alone have the space to play with. Looking at it like that, I'd be inclined to give them not too harsh of a time over it all, really buck stops at us for buying them knowing what the negative externalities implicit in having them to run around and around are.
moved past such models myself and gone back to things that I can pretty well trace 99% of the impact of and supply chain of without much bother if I buy new models they come as kits from small businesses or second hand stuff that puts money onto a local shops register.
😊 feels much nicer than partaking in the feeding frenzy that is new release ready to run things

I think that's the problem, letting poor locos in to the field when QC should have rejected then gives the brand a poor name and a disservice considering what they can and do produce. Thanks for watching.

This is a lovely loco. A few issues for Hornby with my model not least leaving it on the garden path as I was away despite many efforts to delay delivery. A neighbour realised the situation fortuantely…..but wont go on! Just a point, I dont personally dont like old resistance controllers like the Duette for modern models (or older models come to that). I personally think variable transformer models (like the Safety Minor or Powermaster if we are talking H&M ) or more modern transistorised controllers are far better and this could account for any jerkiness you have found. Anyway, am enjoying your series as its very much along similar lines to my own collection.

    • @dustyshelfcollectables
      @dustyshelfcollectables  Год назад +1

Yes, delivery can be an issue, especially if you are direct on to the street. To be honest I have not considered the controllers, apart from the amps for the older locos, and I have alway found the HM controllers to be robust, but I will take a look into resistance v's variable Thank you.

@@dustyshelfcollectables hi there, I'm sorry to hear it was attracting strange comments. I watched the video when you first uploaded it and found it very interesting. I have a few of the new Hornby Dublo locomotives myself and love to hear other views and opinions on them. The reaction seems to be very 50/50 to be honest. I've a friend that also had the green Dublo Gresley, his like yours also had a poor quality tender and rough paint work on the bodywork, he ended up sending it back to Hornby. I had to send one of mine back, not because of the locomotive, but because the outer box was badly damaged. Like you say if your video, the price of these locomotives they should be perfect. If you happen to put the video back up for a week or two that would be great. Also friends of mine have said they would be interested in watching your review. You do a fantastic job with your reviews and I've recommended your channel to as many of my friends as possible 👍
