What a way to explore Scotland's incredible coastline! Our week aboard 120 year old (!) Bessie Ellen, sailing 193 miles around The Inner Hebrides, was one of our most memorable travel experiences to date. Read about the journey and see plenty more images of life on board Bessie in our accompanying blog post > www.goingthewholehogg.com/sailing-hebrides-tall-ship-bessie-ellen/ Thanks for watching and please do Like and comment to help us reach more people and continue to create films like this 😃 Kim & Del
Thank you, I am sat with a friend in last days of his life who sailed on the Bessie Ellen. This just started playing. He is smiling and crying. You have made someone's last moments very special x
This beautiful ship came into my harbour earlier this year and I’m a 17 year old who loves old ships like these so I was delighted to see this in our little harbour. So nice to see ships like her looking brand new and still going. 👍 💙
I've said it before, but without a doubt you are the best 'outdoors' film makers I know. This is especially delightful - I had a week on Bessie Ellen in June 2022, and you've captured life on board perfectly. And that's on top of the stunning shots of the scenery.
Thank you so much Adrian, that’s very much appreciated. And all the better for knowing you have had your own experience on Bessie Ellen. Thanks again 😃
Many years ago I was retrenched from the company that I worked for, and the retrenchment compensation plus six months’ long service leave as a lump sum bought me a run-down gaff ketch. Seven years’ work made her sailable, and I really enjoyed it. However, I ran out of ‘resources’ and had to sell. Friends who have seen her recently have said that she has found a proper shipwright to look after her, which is very satisfying. Now I have ‘swallowed the anchor’, so watching Bessie Ellen brings back the good times and pleasure sailing.
Great videography and sound editing! Love your Scotland videos, especially the isles, more so the Hebrides. Awesome crew, and super hardworking. 🎩 The dog was the cherry on the cake. ☺️
Thanks very much! Scotland is great place to make videos, the Hebrides especially. Really enjoyed this trip and we’re pleased with how this video turned out. The crew were great and Bracken was the best! Thanks again 😃
Great filming as always , bet it was great to see the Inner Hebrides from another perspective! Brought back lovely memories of Easdale and Colonsay and Oronsay ( we didn’t have enough time to visit the beautiful beach you were on / swimming in the sea , as had to hurry up before the tide came in ! )Lovely to see it from the other side of the island . Food looked amazing, weather looked on your side too and loved Bracken the dog . Your filming / editing is amazing on all your vlogs but particularly love Scotland, it’s our favourite place in the world xx
Yeah it absolutely was fantastic to see the islands from this perspective, and nice to have visited them as a bit of a surprise, as the itinerary just depended on the winds and weather! Would love to go back and visit them all again for longer. Not having to worry about the tide was the beauty of visiting Oronsay by boat! The food was incredible, worth the trip just for the daily feasts, and Bracken never failed to make us smile. Thank you for your lovely feedback about our work, and happy to hear you've had the pleasure of visiting this area for yourself! Hopefully plenty more Scotland videos to come in the future : ) Kim
What? A feature length film of the Scottish Hebridean Islands by the best filmmakers on RUclips, you say? Yes, yes, I will partake and relish every second. Watched the first half hour, a beautiful film as always. Can't wait to soak up the rest. xx
Did something similar to this in 1984 on the Alystra out of Ardfern but got to Islay as well. The result was Scotch and Water, a guide to the Hebridean malt whisky distilleries.
What a great voyage! Thank you for sharing this. My favorite was the smell clip/drone footage of Easdale. What an odd little gem of an island. Your channel is way underrated and I hope it continues to flourish big time! Amazing!!
Thank you so much! We too were hugely impressed by Easdale, a little island neither of us had ever even heard of before. Looking forward to going back someday soon. Thanks again 😃
Thank you for saving this ship. I hope when you are old someone else will do the honors. I spent my honeymoon on a homemade ketch sailing around Florida, and another two weeks the next year on the same boat. I wonder what happened to it when the owner/builder died?
The dog is the co star of this video, his eyes must have seen some people go from bungling sailing wantabe's to old salts during their week onboard. I would love to join Bessie Ellen for a weeks holiday, so i have all winter to try and convince the wife,
Haha, one might argue that Bracken is the true star! Well, having just spent the entire year on board, we can certainly recommend a week long trip. There are trips in Scotland and also Norway next year: bessie-ellen.com/our-voyages/2025-voyage-schedule/
Awesome film. It's a mystery to me as to why you do not have many more subscribers. I'm afraid if I was on board, the noisy dog would have disembarked somewhere near the Corryvreckan 🙂
i work at a very similar boat in norway called anna rogde a skooner and å bit older than this one but i like how similar thing are on this boat. we dont have a cute dog tho
Ok OK OK I will subscribe. I pray you have not sold this boat and are still OK with everything. Best wishes. I can not take this one in right now. Please forgive me. Mostly with Leo (Tally Ho) and Elayna and Riely (La Vagabonde). And so on and on and on. Thank you for sharing all of this‼〰✨🌿👍🌿✨〰. New Hampshire
Close but not quite. I believe a goletta is essentially a schooner, while Bessie Ellen is a gaff ketch. Similar to a schooner/goletta but the rigging and mainmast position are different.
Hi. We have added the info about locations for each day to the chapters, if you hover at the bottom of the screen or check the description you will find the locations. Thanks, Kim
Wholly guacamole! How much does a trip like this cost? It's gotta be life's savings territory, like twenty or thirty thousand dollars. I bet you have to have real connections to get on this lovely boat.

We’re glad that this was able to offer some comfort. Our thoughts go out to both of you at this time.

@@GoingTheWholeHogg Stonehaven Harbour, NorthEast of Scotland
@HoistTheBloodyColours ah right, good stuff. We enjoyed being in Stonehaven and remember there being a lot of interest locally. Good place to live 👍

Happy to hear watching Bessie Ellen can bring back those good memories for you David.
Beautyful piece, thanks - felt real, well colored, could almost smell the sea. Thanks for not ruining it by talking it over. Big thanks
Really appreciate that assessment, thanks very much. That it ‘feels real’ is one of the best compliments this film could get. Thanks again 😃
I was thinking "where are those excellent video makers from Scotland now?" and this comes up immediately....stupendous.
Haha, nice one Sergio, thank you so much! 😁
@@GoingTheWholeHogg :D :D Great to see you again here!
Beautiful Bessie Ellen, great memories! Thank you so much. Xx
You’re very welcome, thank you! 😃
Need to watch again, tears keep distorting my vision. ❤👍
I watched every moment, and my attention never wandered. What a wonderful trip and visual journal!
That's really great to hear, thank you! It was an incredible experience and we're glad we got to capture the journey and share it : )
Fantastic, such a good watch. Definitely wont be getting scurvy on that ship, scran looked top notch :)
Thank you! The food was incredible, worth the trip purely for those homebaked goodies!
Boat from a dream. Not too large, not too small. Just perfect for perfect adventure. And those are rare and precious!
You summed it up nicely!
A lovely and beautifully crafted video of an inspiring journey.
Thanks very much.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, very much appreciated Michael

1:02:20 great shots of Bessie Ellen under full sail, majestic scenery ⛵⛵⛵
A special boat in a special landscape… thanks, glad you enjoyed it 😃
A great report, you feel like you're on board and experiencing a timeless experience. Well done for the production.

Exactly what we hoped for Altin, thanks very much 😃
Very nice indeed. You’ve managed to capture some of the joys of sailing in the Hebrides; one of the best playgrounds going!
Thank you. Certainly one of the best ways to explore the islands, it was fantastic to experience them from a whole different perspective.
Bellissimo viaggio Isole meravigliose e un equipaggio fantastico
Thanks for the appreciation, glad you enjoyed it 🙂

So glad we were able to convey that feeling… hope you have a great time when back onboard 🙂
Absolutely mesmerising. If can't wait to sign up.
Thank you! Are you planning to join Bessie on a voyage this year?
Stunning video, thank you. Just found you through the Orkney trip as am off there later this year. I am delighted to see you've made so many videos!

The food looks top notch wish i was on board eating it with you.really making me hungry watching this.
The food is always incredible on board, delighted that it’s coming across that way. Definitely one of the reasons to book a trip on Bessie Ellen 😃

Just had a look at Anna Rogde, a fine looking boat and very similar indeed. Must be a pleasure to work on. You need to get yourselves a dog though 😃
What a treat ! ! !

Haha, is catching in the mouth acceptable!? 😁
Please state which port you are in each time. It would be very informative.
