- Western Heritage Furniture's latest creation is an expanding round table built for Connie Sondeno in Wyoming. This is a custom, one of a kind expanding round table with 8 "pie" shaped pieces that hide 8 leaves underneath to expand from 70" in diameter to 85" in diameter.
Western Heritage Furniture builds extraordinary reclaimed wood furniture from the salvaged wood of old barns, buildings and other American structures, originally constructed from old growth timber more than a century ago. Maintaining a "green" ideal since 1991 when we first started making furniture from recycled logs salvaged from slash-and-burn piles in the Pacific Northwest. Over the years we have grown to be one of America's premiere furniture builders by striving to be extraordinary in everything we do.

I showed this to my wife & she was impressed. & it takes a lot to impress her.
I built custom homes, high end apartment interiors, and custom furniture for 23 years and that table is one of the most complex and creative pieces I've ever seen. Well done and Congradulations!
So interesting to find this gem of a project AND then the final touch is hearing the craftsman say it's his birthday on the day of making the video [and/or completing the table project] on May 18. Today is May 17, six years later, and the birthday of my late stepfather who graduated top in his class at Harvard with a degree in aeronautical engineering ~ BUT he chose to do something pleasurable with his engineering after college. He opened a "small welding shop" which accidentally became a high-demand place for making tanks for trucks to haul all sorts of good stuff we need. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to this ambitious woodworker! Our society needs ambitious, intelligent people.
I have to tell you that this is the most beautiful table I have ever seen. I love the wood design.
American workmanship at its best
AS I am watching this video, it is May 18, 2013, so happy birthday, and congratulation on your table, it is a true work of art!
This is so much more work than a traditional expanding table.

Awesome Design & Workmanship...................
Happy Belated Birthday! What a masterpiece. Truly a work of art. Wonderful craftsmanship, with a delightful puzzlebox feel that will keep the owners intrigued and engrossed with the piece for as long as they own the piece. It was truly a pleasure to see!
Just beautiful - this is an inspiring re-watch for me. I work in metal - weld, grind and polish, much less finesse than wood. Your work and clear instruction are a joy to watch - well edited too! Simple and elegant.
Richard Landon Thank you so much! You can see alternative styles on our Pinterest board also: www.pinterest.com/whfurniture/expanding-round-table-idea-board/
That is an absolutely beautiful work of art.
Thank You!
not many people build furniture up to this level of quality anymore,, this is a very rare piece
handmade handbuilt is no comparison to all that other stuff
its more like a piece of art
Exceptional work! Amazing finish and by far the best round table in the world!
That is awsome! I seen a rectangle table that extended with power and that also astonished me.
HOLY EVERYTHING. You guys should be so proud. that is a truly amazing piece of master level craftsmanship.
You are very smart men , to make this beautiful table ,
wow! what a great table. love that it's reclaimed. isn't nothing better in this world than reusing old wood again. you are a great craftsman in your own right. very talented and may I say... very handsome too. great work!! such a talent :-)
Amazing work! Only a talented person could have made it. Congratulations!
Well done and congratulations.. To be able to build something you need to able to see it before you even begin to make it.. That is the defence between you that made this and everybody else watching this video.. Well done and thank you for sharing it with us.
Stunning table!
It was super awesome design!!!!
that table is so pretty
Beautiful work - thanks for showing it
magaiver smith Thanks for the comments. We'll be sure to work on those things and, perhaps, shoot several more videos of our progress =)
Neat piece of work. A lot of thought and creativity went into the job. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic design and craftsmanship, beautiful work
Thank You!
Dear
Happy birthday
belated wish
I saw it today, lots of thumbs up
I love seeing real craftsmen producing beautiful works that make them feel accomplished. Factories kill craftsmen.
I want goods that pay the craftsmen and keep alive skills.
That's an awesome table. Great video demonstration as well
Happy belated birthday. :) My daughter was just born on that day. :) Fine table you have there.
Very nice and handy table with a lot of craftmanship.
It must cost a small fortune
Very cool design and workmanship
Awesome!
I'm not sure if I would want a table like this (you must have enough room to use it expanded), but I really like what you've done.
Beautiful!
Beautiful piece...
'm Joiner in Brazil and I hope one day to do a job like this. It would be a personal fulfillment. Congratulations.
***** Lets keep in touch and we would love to see your work someday. Thank you for the kind words.
Good work
Thanks @bohn only's. Current production time is around 8 weeks, although our waiting list has grown to about 8-10 months.
Amazing table
This is really cool you should be proud of such a cool design!
That is incredible. thanks for sharing. I have some heart pine from an old church that I would gladly trade twice, three times as much wood for one of these tables.
St Thomas let's ask the boss and see what he says - can you email us some pics and the story behind the church?
***** Yes I can, Send me your email address and I will send it to you.
Thanks
Michael
St Thomas jason@whf-inc.com Thanks!
***** Thanks for the email Michael! I'll bug the boss about it ;-)
beautiful job!
Awesome work dude. Its uniqueness is stellar and worth any "little" inconvenience
That's like saying 'I don't see the benefit of the Mona Lisa'. If you wanted a big round table, yes, there are easier ways of making one, but if you want a big round piece of ART to welcome your friends and family to, this'll do the trick nicely. If you can't see the pleasure in this guy's face in having built it, and recognize the desire of the client to have it, I hope you aren't wasting your time working with wood.
Pretty cool how clever some people are, still the one where you just spin it and it does all this on its own is epic :P
+Chris R True. This one is around $35,000. The other one is around $150,000.
well done , I love it
That's an awesome table. The finish and the mechanisms are absolutely professional. Thanks for uploading this video and a belated happy birthday!
Thanks @aldensquared! This video is from years ago and we have refined the table quite a bit since then. It has only gotten a lot better!
Wow, that is so awesome.
Nice table. I can see it was a labour of love and something to be proud of.
I just came here after watching what I believe to be the ultimate expanding round table Making the Fletcher Capstan Table
However, yours appears to preserve the true semse of a wooden table other that the "Lazy Susan2 style plate pivot.
Awesome! Congratulations!
An automated version of this would be awesome.
Dear, congratulations. Fine.
Really nice workmanship I would love to own it!

Wow! I hope the owners of this table aren't hiding all the beautiful woodwork under a table cloth ;)
Amazing.
As beautiful as the table is, you bring up a good point.
nice, one day i shall make a table like this too
When you do, let us know!
I cant even begin to go over how impractical this is.
Happy birthday !!!
good ideas
Amazing piece of work dude. How long does one of these take to build now that it's through the design phase?
My dream poker table :)
Just in case you didn't catch it, this table uses a lazy Susan!
A beautiful table and great workmanship.I would have matched the design with the top of the table, in that the octagon would be a circle (laminated),and the legs would be somewhat round for as it is my eyes are a llittle disturbed to changing from circles to octagon to squares. I made a rotating table for my wife. It had ONE opening flap on the top so to get all the sectors, she stays in one position holding the top and rotates the lower body of the table. I had two thrust bearings I made.
guau! qué mesa tan genial...!
mui buena mesa mis respetos
Genial
To be young again,Oh that is right,I never grew up.
Muito interessante este projeto de mesa. Adorei! Eu gostaria de saber qual tipo de madeira você usa, pois aqui no Brazil temos muitas espécies e qual a se adaptaria melhor. Aguardo resposta.
It'd be better if the table just automatically expanded/retracted when you spun it around.
