Hi rob , great vid as ever. Some great ideas, just wondered what ideas you use for security for your shed / workshop... I'm a bit paranoid about the security of mine. Thanks
I'm setting up my shed. Its 20ftx10ft sheet metal. For racking, storage etc, I am planning to use a load of 1.5m or 2m DIN rails. You get them in 7.5mmx35mm dimensions. The have a shape in the metal so they are very straight and strong. They are perforated so easily screwed/bolted to wals. If you wanted extra strength you can connect them vertically as well. Finally as there is a lip on each side I can use it to hook tools, temporary tables (only need a couple of foldable front legs). Easy to cut to size as well. Of course you could use them for connecting electric RCDs etc. I dont work for a DIN rail company:)
Took me so long to get my workshop how I want it. Best thing I ever did was make a partition wall for my "office" to keep all the wood dust and clutter away. Helps me with working with a clear room and head.
hi Rob, That's the thing with the workshop, it keeps on evolving and what was yesterdays thought is tomorrows build, it doesn't matter if you plan it or just wing it on the day that idea will just pop in to your head. Will you regret it, No, will you regret not doing it ,yes. Follow your dream mate, you won't regret it, when it's all done and finish, you will love it and kick your self I should have done this a long time ago. I've got to re-jig my workshop it's need doing badly and I'm thinking of making an island workbench also thinking of expanding my workshop in to my garage as they are in the same building but two rooms to make a bigger workshop. All I can say is good luck and go for it, as always a great video, catch you soon, take care
Love the plans. Sheds are organic so are constantly evolving. I built my current shed almost 8 years ago, and it is now in its 3rd incarnation. Mine is all steel construction, and while the steel has many benefits in terms of strength and durability, the big minus is condensation. It has taken me around 4 years to get to stage where the moisture isn't wrecking tools. Interesting you are looking at getting a table saw too. I just dismantled mine, as since buying a track/plunge saw I have barely used the table saw. Keep up the good work.
Great plans Rob… looking forward to coming on the journey with you. Suggestion:….. I have nowhere as many tools as you but quite often have trouble locating some and have even repurchased the tool because it is “lost” only to find it when the job is done. How about creating a database on your shed PC for locating tools? E.g. internal circlip pliers. Cab22 Drawer 8 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I bought the dual cyclone system from Temu and attached to a bird feed bucket and attached it to a Lumberjack dust vacuum. I do need to add a pressure release valve and maybe a base for the bucket to sit on to add stability. Hose adapter for bandsaw, I just made from an old sake cup (I have a few hundred from old work promotions) and need to do something similar for the lathe. Currently run the hose around depending on what I am doing, but want to do something similar to Woodwork Journey. One of my first builds I did was the one hour workbench. very easy to follow, and on wheels. Let me know if you want me to find the video that I used. It was next to a wall, I have now shifted it around to be moved under shelves. I also have an angle poise attached, that bends flat and slides under. Also agree with it being a dumping ground for others. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Glad you've found Shadowfoam. I've made wall hanging frames of my tools that I can take down and make a chest out of, all with Shadowfoam and old pallet wood. Hope that inspires you further :)
Thanks Rob, sounds like we've got a lot of great content coming down the tracks ! If you're intent on having the majority of tools out on the walls you could consider sliding panels or shallow framed 180 degree fold back doors with tools hung on both sides to maximise storage, there are a number of great videos showing both of these approaches ! The more you can have on wheels the better for flexibility but this does depend a bit on the strength and flatness of your floors ! Perhaps you could get Brett over to help you to brain-storm some of the options ! 😉
Hi Rob…. House alterations look brilliant. Change the workshop….🙈omg what an amount of work that will be…but probably worth it🥴. You maybe need a separate room for all the Parkside tools😂
Hey my friend good to see you there buddy. Great to see all the old pictures and how everything came about that is just too cool.😊😊 Can't wait to see what you do next my friend.😊😊
Having just cleared out and totally refitted it out god that has been some job looks good now but it took some doing it took 5 months to complete, so best of luck. Bry
My first best move was the distance between wife and workshop... At 1.2 miles, off grid in the forest it's a blessing. Second was worktop depth... I was amazed at how 6 inches made a world of difference... My worktop is L shape and 32 ft but 2ft 6 inches deep... I think it may have something to to with things I hang on the wall like parts bins etc... I know I have at least 2 ft clearance... If that makes sense... And 3, my parkside grinder pizza cutter is getting dusty as no takeaways up here in the mountains 😂
Your house renovation project looks very serious. Walls came down totally new floor levels and so much more. It must feel like an entirely different building. Do you have some video coverage of that. Even a walk around where you describe what you did would be interesting. I did see a refurbished cottage in Wales by a genius bicycle designer - some of his ideas were so original and different. I love situations where people have made something unique and personal - that seems to be your approach.
I'd love a shed half the size of yours, but I am hopefully getting another one soon. I understand that you will be at Makers Central. Hopefully, I'll see you there.
Hey Rob...... Exciting days ahead...... Like the others I am looking forward to sharing the journey with you. Having a dirtyroom is a great Idea....I tried in my metalwork/bike repair shop but just used shower curtains.....tbh its not great.....I need another shed for grinding and cutting!!! As you know I have the barn for woodworking but recent events (requiring some spraying) has demonstrated I could do with a spray shed ......wife would like a Gypsy style caravan so im thinking of how and where .......but thats at the back of a long list...... Your videos are always top notch and entertaining so cannot wait...... Crack on mate....what you hanging around at???
would not fix something in the middle sounds like a kitchen island. use wheels under the main bench, table saw incorporated and if you chuck it together right you can put a router table in as well using a lifter and palm router, also look at the height think this was the most important thing for me on my build, i made the bench height so i can stand straight at the bench any lean does my back in. i have bought quite a few of the £9.99 trolley dollies. The castors are far better than anything i could buy for £10, i use one as the base for my screw cases another for a set of mobile drawers. in fact all drawers and cabinets will be on wheels so i can move things around and use the corners as storage. last but not least a 3d printer, i have printed tons of plastic for hanging alsorts on the walls. enjoy the journey to the new Shed
I have an idea, since space/property is such a premium seeing as you live on an island and all… What about expanding …. Into the earth! You could have a multi-level shed! This is a great idea, and yes I’ve seen the tunnel that one guy did, kinda boring as it’s just a tunnel… a subterranean shed would be better, a sub shed if you like.
@@adam-qf2vzyea, thought his tunnel was a little boring because he had to put metal walls inside (probably the local council made him for safety idk) Thought it would be cooler if someone did an underground “thing” that was actually used for something, Colin Furze’s project was kind of pointless.
Yup … you definitely need a bigger shed. Only then can you appreciate the fundamental needs of man and the great circle of life … when you realise you need a bigger shed !!😂😂 It’s just like Groundhog Day all over again to the last syllable of recordable time ……. So .. when humanity evolves into what we would now consider “gods” we can ask ourselves .. “Where in the Universe did I put that new Parkside spanner?” 😊 We will all look forward to following your journey.
My philosophy is try fixing everything yourself . If successful, you've saved money , learnt a new skill and possibly bought a new tool . If you balls up , pay the money to a professional . Man sheds are forever evolving - just do it 👍

Great video Rob,
I hope to see your renovation.
Love your videos one advice put everything on wheels you won't regret it
With you on the dust extraction,it’s a must have! MFT top for the workbench, very handy, looking forward to the outcome!
If you can keep every thing the same hight on wheels then everything becomes modular 👍
Love it mate :) Too many ideas, too little time :)
lovely, looking forward to the ride !!
That is not a shed that's a venue love it

Way too small that shed, don’t know how you manage! 🤷🏻♂️🤪
*INdecisive

That is all...😅
Please be careful with table saw - most dangerous things, so much so I sold mine and got a bigger band saw.
