      The 7.3 Garage how can you get his tunes? I’ve had a hydra for a long time but I’ve never changed the tunes the previous owner put on it

    • @The73Garage
      @The73Garage  5 лет назад +1

      You can get them from his website Jelibuiltperformance.com He’ll email them to you and you’ll need to upload them to the chip with the Hydra cable👍🏻

    • @LivingOnWheels
      @LivingOnWheels 5 лет назад +3

      @@colton7373 It is actually pretty simple. Go to JelibuiltPerformance.com and you will find the section for tuning. There is one for stock injectors tunes and one for custom injector tunes. Simply choose which one applies to you, select the tunes you wish to receive and enter the information on your truck and he will email the tunes straight to you. Then you just go onto your Hydra software and clear the old tunes and load the new. You can also call him and he'd be more than willing to help you out.

    You just want to remove the "conformal coating” (protects the circuit from moisture etc.) and leave the tinning. The reason the copper will corrode, the tin will not.

    Pretty ballsy taking that case off and exposing that whole board. Great invite for FOD to fry that thing. Especially with your fingers bracing on all the surface components. Lots of static potential there. Pro tip from an electronics tech... Plug those cables in first then sneak the chip and cables into the slot, then plug the unit in... Leave the covers on. Hate to see somebody fry their board from handling. Unless of course you have a ground strap on your wrist.

    Easier and safer to use a small flat head. Use the scotch bright to clean the left over (buff it out)
    Less material taken off tighter it'll be typically, Hydra seem to fit looser then a ts6.

    If you have a superduty 99 split shots and get some big single shots with jelli tunes can you use the hydra high idle and low idle and save the 6 you buy for the good tunes. Hate to waste all that money on a high idle and low idle but want them. Basically will any of the hydra tunes work once you swap over from split shot or will only the custom tunes work?

  • @kingvette7485

    I just bought a 1999 f250 with a bigger turbo, straight piped 4", intake and Hydra tuner. The guy lost the paper with the tune set up, the list of 6 you have on that paper, would that be standard set up or are they different according to who tunes it? Is there a way to find out how the tuner is or should I leave well enough alone?

    • @The73Garage
      @The73Garage  2 года назад +1

      Sometimes they are standard and other times they are not. If you know where he got the hydra chip from, you might be able to find out what tunes are on it. If you download the hydra software onto your computer, you can plug the chip in and see the names of the tunes as well!

  • @ryank2897

    • @The73Garage
      @The73Garage  4 года назад

      If you get them burned before you install, it’s plug and play. If you need to have a revision you just have to upload it yourself and burn it. It’s pretty easy!

      cameron adams you’ll be fine, the tunes are safe!

    • @stalinsbitch7428

      Dude, let me tell ya one thing about that. Even though the tunes are "s a f e" does not mean they are recommended, an unmolested and stock 7.3 will run tunerless for easily 500k miles before your injectors start giving you problems. New injectors alone can pretty much push your engine to a million miles. Spank a tuner on it and youve just ruined your total mileage amount. Especially if you run it on a high HP tune for long periods of time. i get tuning for torque towing and mileage but please dont rape an engine on stock injectors. unless you plan to buy new injectors and be ready to baby your ext gauge.
      Ive been a diesel mechanic for 32 years and was a first year buyer of a 7.3 In 95. the truck still goes great to this day with a little over 800k on er. New 80% over injectors on it last spring, new oil pump, fuel pumps, and little things like fuses and wiring of course. the most ive done is add a cold air intake for some performance, the injectors running on a stock-tow tune (stock, tow, eco and heavy tow tunes) but didnt put in the tuner until last spring when i replaced the injectors too. Runs like butter still with no major engine issues. i started about 8 years ago doing 2 year teardowns of the engine since the mileage is hiking up, and towing a 5th wheel near daily of course causes bad wear. i use archoil additives and anti-gel in the tank every winter. Kept it mostly rust free on the body (see profile image) by using some crane lube, put a good amount on the underbody about 6 years back and not a single spec has flaked off yet. that shits built to last and wont fall off. suspension issues are present but its just some old shocks i gotta replace. and have done the steering (pitman, idler, sway bar, steering shaft etc) and standard ford tranny issues. did an allison swap around 2010 when it became popular. took the tranny from a t4ee bus in a scrapper with under 5k miles on it (something happened to the bus, cant remember anymore) and routine oil changes of course. with full fluid drains and replacements every 12k miles.
      if thats too much of a book to read, in short the 7.3 is a great engine, if you find one today and want to buy it, make sure the owner cared about it and didnt let it rot. since theyre getting harder to find and more expensive by the hour. Tuners are safe so long as they arent useless power tunes or coal tunes, and of course if you have aftermarket injectors. its just sad that the great 7.3 is paired to the horrible ford transmissions. Go with an allison swap if you want quality.
      -Mikael M.

      StalinsBitch what injectors do you recommend?

    • @stalinsbitch7428
      @stalinsbitch7428 4 года назад

      @@cameronadams8101 Full force stage 3s, udp stage 2's and if you seriously need major power id suggest swamps 238/200 set. not best for fuel efficiency or reliability, but gives a fuckton of power.
      if you want some reliable middle-of-the-road power injectors probably the udp stage 2/3's
      if you dont care as much about power probably the full force stage 2s in like 180ccs
      -Mikael M.

    • @stalinsbitch7428
      @stalinsbitch7428 4 года назад

      one more thing if youre gonna run the big swamp injectors youll have to do studs, hpop and probably bigger turbo. but will improve hp and torque a lot.
