The ZX Spectrum era of gaming must have been exciting.

It was, honestly. People were trying out things all the time. Wargaming like this today puts you at risk of being shouted at on Twitter, for instance. Loads of interesting wargames and different control methods.
Then you had text adventures, arcade conversions, action adventure games like the Magic Knight, isometric adventures like the Great Escape and Where Time Stood Still, wizard deathmatches in Feud and Chaos, roleplaying games... and beat-em-ups like Target; Renegade!
And some games were pocket money cheap too.
      :)

This looks great, very complex for the Speccy- would have played this for hours back in the day!

Yeah, there are loads of moving parts and things to try, also there are ELEVEN random events that can mix things up.
Manual and map are now up on SpectrumComputing!
I played another game this evening. We're hoping to hear back from Richard Forsyth himself :)

Pro tip: Try to win the first time

I won both times! (Or lost). I now know that you need to get 20 more Victory Points than the Other Side to win... and then you just get dumped back to the main menu.
A screen with the "winning" flag first would have been good...
