This video was very informative of the global supply chain. I am currently an intern at a plant and have witnessed some the emerging technologies mentioned in this video first hand. In my opinion, IOT devices are one of the most beneficial types of technology when it comes to production. These devices allow a company to identify defects and make changes to its production lines, rendering the highest quality products for its customers. IOT devices can also be a great way for a company to track inventory and supplies that are in-transit.
This lecture video caught my interest because the global supply chain is such a vast and fast moving network that has so many different moving parts in order for the flow of goods & services to be affective. I also enjoyed listening to the segment about Artificial Intelligence because it has now become such a huge technological advance in the world. The amount of pressure the global supply chain has taken over the past couple of years is extremely high as COVID-19 slowed down everything almost completely. Seeing in this video the basis of the supply chain it is astounding how smoothly we expect it to work all of the time.
Knowing about the global supply chain management is the key for working in the business field. Even if you are located in the US and sell your products here, it does now mean your business will not be affected by certain economic changes. Most of the products are made from parts coming from different countries. Like, for example, a pair of jeans may be designed in the US, fabrics may come from India, the workforce to sew the pair may be in China, and the sales market may be the US.
I think after the Covid shutdown I would like to hope that the companies has learned that we need to be able to have a stock in all the individual countries that the products are supplied so that it is easier to distribute and not have a gap in the ability to keep the supplies within the rate of use by consumer.
