Better study the music of Bruckner, Wagner and Richard Strauss. More complex and difficult than most of the music who performs Mr Koopman. Trust me.
@@lucaogliari2912 I'm well aware of the delights of those composers-complexity and difficulty are, however, not the two criteria I measure music by. Music of the Baroque and late Renaissance is, to me at least, much more beautiful and honest.
Luca Ogliari, for someone seeking to learn continuo playing, Buckner, Wagner, and Strauss have nothing to impart.

Sorry to contradict, but Heinichen's treatises *are* mostly about basso continuo. Improvisation and composition were given a few chapters only! Virtually all German basso continuo sources after 1728 mention Heinichen with great respect, saying what great books the man wrote on Basso Continuo! JSB himself sold copies of Heinichen's second treatise in his own home!
En ik vind het een grote eer Ton Koopman in ons midden te hebben: in mijn ogen de beste leerling van Gustav Leonhardt. Een grandioos musicus en een zeer aimabel mens. Hopelijk blijft hij nog heel lang actief in de muziekwereld.
En voor ons is het een grote eer om naar Ton Koopman in zijn werkkamer te mogen luisteren....!

Outstanding Mr Coopman! I have just listened to your embellishments with the Minuete in G by Bach from Anna Magdalena's nite book. There is a real science to the art of embellishment that I can only think you have improvised along certain rules. I would love to know more about this style. Regards.
The master's fingers inspire! "You are free to do what you want...." To supplement historical understanding, try Derek Remes, and his free dissertation on Bach's pedagogy, and the many recent studies of Partimento.
