Volvo Trucks - A 30 metre and 90 tonne FH16 timber truck in northern Sweden - Driver’s World (E05)

  • In the forests of northern Sweden we meet Roger Henriksson, a timber truck driver who participates in the Swedish research project One More Pile. The aim of the project is to change the Swedish load limit legislation to allow vehicle combinations of up to 90 tonnes and 30 metres in length instead of today’s 60 tonnes and 25 metres. Driving with a 50% larger load increases efficiency and cuts carbon emissions by 20% compared with a traditional timber vehicle combination.
    Watch how Roger handles this unique vehicle combination in his Volvo FH16 from 2013 with a 750 horsepower engine.

      New Zealand has some of the biggest logging trucks in the world
      working off-highway on private roads - which can see
      Gross Combination Masses of around 150-tonne.

    This is how you do legislation - not in response to the heated emotions of the moment, but research, research, research. I''d like to think that at least in Sweden that's how laws get done.

    Very nice! I suggest you guys to check here in Brazil, where some trucks that are loaded with timber are pulled by tractor trucks, and 3 trailers behind them. Some of theese trucks pull 120 ton out of the woods, and are unloaded to 80 tons to trnasport them on normal roads. Also, there is a company that ises only Volvos to transport steel, also a 3 trailer tractor truck. I don't know how much it weights, but, my guess is 40+ tons

      +jajesam sigurno The steering front axle and the midle axle are drive axles. As for the back axle, I'm not sure if it's a drive one as the disabling it is a new technology for Volvo.

    what is the allowed speed for this volvo in sweden ?

    • @Vojtaniz01
      @Vojtaniz01 9 лет назад

      forestchurch I think it is the same as for other trucks in Sweden - 50 km/h in cities, 70 km/h outside cities, and 80 km/h on highways.

    • @noscopesallowed8128
      @noscopesallowed8128 8 лет назад

      +Vojtěch Nižňanský 80?! I thought trucks were limited to 90 in Europe.

    • @Vojtaniz01
      @Vojtaniz01 8 лет назад

      Max McTabish: It varies by country. For example, in Czech Republic, Switzerland and Norway, the speed limit for trucks is 50/80/80. In Hungary, Poland, Austria and Sweden, it is 50/70/80. In Germany, it is 50/60/80. In France, it is 50/60/90. In Slovakia, it is 50/90/90.

    • @noscopesallowed8128
      @noscopesallowed8128 8 лет назад

      Vojtěch Nižňanský Ahhh... That still just seems too slow though... My only experience with trucking is through playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 but still most modern tractors seems much more capable of doing higher speeds safely. Especially when just going in a straight line. When I lived in the US for a few years, all the trucks there were going 120+ KPH and my dad was always saying that it was safer that way because they weren't stopping fast cars and making people have to pass them all the time.

    • @Vojtaniz01
      @Vojtaniz01 8 лет назад +1

      +Max McTabish Yes, I also think that it would be safer if trucks had same speed limits as other cars. Unfortunately, we are in the European Union that wants to destroy everything. They say it is because of the emissions and noise.

    • @gnawershreth
      @gnawershreth 8 лет назад

      +pfow2006 Wouldn't be legal in the EU most likely. It's not really about "That's awesome, dude!" here. It's about safety. That goes for all vehicles really. If all of those safety features, driver assist features etc. makes the job too boring for people, they'll just have to find another line of work. There's no other alternative.

    • @MasterChief37
      @MasterChief37 7 лет назад

      Sweden is an EU country, so it's obviously legal in some pats of the EU, I think this combo and weight is also legal in Finland.
