    I was given one of these by someone who'd used it and not had much luck.
    First hatch didn't go so well.
    Things I did to improve it...
    1) Got calibrated glass chicken incubator thermometer to calibrate the incubator temp (don't trust digital)
    2) got a bi-metal hygrometer to read humidity (again don't trust digital).
    3) Pull the temp and humidity sensors down into the egg bay so they are reading actual values at egg-height - not reading up in the hot yellow compartment.
    4) probably most important, I added 2 more fans into the top case (cable-tied them into the ceiling grid)
    The original fan sucks air up onto the heater element - the two fans I added either side force the hot air back down into the box.
    This eliminated hot/cool spots in the incubator and evened the temp right out across the egg-bay.
    I have a similar sized Brinsea incubator now as well and I find this yellow generic Chinese model runs at a higher humidity withour adding any water to either (around 20%RH higher than the Brinsea) when they're both dry, theres also very little way of altering this downward.
    Maybe adding an exhaust vent like the Brinsea has may help to control the humidity more in the Chinese model ... something to try in future.

      Hi !!! How much water do you put on there?

  • @jeannie2312
    @jeannie2312 4 года назад +3

    So i didnt see anybody wrote it, but humidity depends on the surface not on how much water you have. So 8 ounces of water in a glass will give less humidity than 8 ounces of water in a pan with big surface area. I always start it dry and see what the humidity level of the room is (depending also on time of the year), if its just little low, the corners have square holes and the middle has long canals. I just fill one or two of those square containers, depending on the humidity i want to achieve. You should always run the incubator for full 24 hours before you put the eggs in so the stats settle. (In the end i fill the canal or two)
    The hole for dosing the water is not good, i avoid using that at all costs.
    Also, on 18th day put the turning tray out because their legs get caught in the crevices and when the turner turns it can break their legs and even kill them. The mat underneats is fine, but i always put carton underneat them or a cloth because the claws get in the little holes and they trip a lot and can brake their fingers.. They are newborns afterall, they are veeery clumsy :)

    I have the same incubator. Nice demo but the one thing I noticed you did wrong on the video that can potentially kill or injure the chicks is that you did not REMOVE the egg turner prior to hatching. The turner can squash the new chicks underneath it as they hatch and are too feeble to move away. It’s meant to be removed from day 18 for the chicks. No need for egg turning from day 18. Place the eggs directly on the HATCHING MAT.

    I got the same model of this incubator and I have notice some flews after many incubations that I have carried out.
    First of all I incubate quail eggs which are harder to hatch combare to any other bigger birds.
    The incubator can take 37.5 degrees under the fan and 33 degrees at corners and near to incubator's box faces. Quail eggs develop at 33 degrees are weak, leading to not be able to drill eggs.
    So gather eggs under the fan to be incubated at the right temperature.
    The second major problem is maintaining 70 to 80 humidity for helping quail eggs to hatch. Like I said before, quails are waeker birds and hence higher levels of humidity is required. I usually add hot water into the incubator every 3 hours via the side hole, at lock down days. Also I secure to close the incubator with many ways in order not to loose humidity like, adding paper where open and closes.

    • @gooutside6055
      @gooutside6055  Год назад

      It is a challenge to get lots of eggs to hatch. We just had chickens hatch and we got 33 to hatch and 15 didn’t. Not the best indicator but it’s ok.

    • @gooutside6055

      Normally the humidity is around 30 to 50% . Then I add more water on the last few days to try and get it up to 60 or 70%.

    I collect eggs for my incubator from 8 or 9 hens of different breeds and sizes. These eggs hatch anywhere from 19 to 24 days in the incubator. Today is day 21 and I already have 10 chicks walking around and 35 eggs in the incubator. My dilemma is, how to get these chicks out before they starve to death without violating the “LOCKDOWN” rule. Last month, I had a similar situation, and I opened the incubator on day 21 to get 6 chicks out and I ended up with 21 “SHRINK WRAPPED” dead chicks stuck in their eggs. Any suggestions?

    • @gooutside6055
      @gooutside6055  Год назад +1

      I know they can live off of their yolk for two to three days so don’t be too quick to take them out. If you do open it before they all hatch make sure there is plenty of water in the incubator to make high humidity. I can be tricky getting them to survive.

    I just successfully hatched 6 geese eggs in this very one.
    Have my book out to adjust humidity for a dry chicken hatch. The Toulouse seem intent on hatching their own eggs so the #2 unit is going for chicks.
    We have a shelving system my husband built in the utility room with 3 different styles we got from Amazon/China. I’m thinking I really like this one a lot. How did the ducks make out?

      Deborah Fields ,,,,, they did pretty good. Some seemed like they did not get fertilized. So far we like this unit.

    How much water did you add??

    • @gooutside6055
      @gooutside6055  4 года назад

      ,,,,,well, in the beginning I added too much, maybe 1/4 cup. The humidity was too high. I should have waited a couple days to see .

      @@gooutside6055 thank you, I've tried setting up the temperature to 37.5 and humidity to 60 but it won't stay. My humidity show 69. I had place the eggs 21 days ago and they didn't hatch, but when I check them and crack one the eggs was still good?? Should I try again with the same eggs?

      @@Houseofshile_1 ,,, I believe so because I’ve hatched goose eggs and they are a bit larger that turkey eggs.
