What was not huge about them? They released this on Sony Music and got their Videos played all over MTV during the early 90's, were admired by Trent Reznor who released one of their albums on his Nothing Label... etc pp... I think they can't complain ;-)
It charted at no10 or 9 I think, it was their highest charting & ironically came at a time when they were dropped by RCA lol. There was a bidding war after that & clint mansell & the band chose to sign to nothing run by Trent reznor a long time fan of pwei. I also think Clint's friend ran the label too & they wanted to be signed to a label that gave them to freedom that a major label wouldn't. Probably the best version of this song I've heard.

As Porpoise Power says, they incorporated many genres (indie, hip-hop, industrial, alt. rock, breakbeats, dance...) into their sound, but I would just file them under "alternative" music. This remix of the song could be called electronica though.
The music press called it Grebo, a punk mishmash of different styles. Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine is another good band that got lumped into this caregory.

PWEI danced with a lot of Genres... sometimes industrial, sometimes hip hop, sometimes techno. I'd call this dance rock sometimes (grebu?)
