I can't belive it! I shared this video at 3:30pm yesturday and 24 hours on 1,360 people have watched it. I never realised how much intrest we all take in the history of our town.
I think what's remarkable about this is really how LITTLE has changed. I'm thinking that if you drove around similarly in Manchester or somewhere like that, you'd see that it was almost completely different in places. Nice to see the multi-story under construction
Quite a bit has changed since 1989, and some things have not. The Union Jack cafe is still up and running in Kirkland (part of the main street through Kendal). I used to go in there when I was around 10 years old, and I'm almost 67 now.
Kendal's changed so much since then. The one way system's fucked things up. It'd also be really nice if Kendal returned to being more of a traditional market town...A medieval Kendal, that's what I'd like :3
To think I was only 5 years old, living at Appleby (Next town). Some great cars there which are absolute classics now. I took my driving test here before they changed to the 1-way system.
Your all wrong with the date it was definitely 1989 when he went past what is the shopping centre now they were starting to build, which was a large car park leading down to the bus station, i was working at k shoes and k socks then before it was knocked down in sandes avenue and turned into apartments. Alot has changed, there was hardly no cars on the road especially Windermere road and by duke of Cumberland and not that many people . The cars were like biscuit tins, he had ypvs350 red white and blue with his mate daffy. I really enjoyed going back in time, thanks 👍
fosters in the market place, many a bad dress sense came out of there, what a fantastic friday and saturday nightlife we had in the 80's , alleycats, queens, the park, 11.00pm bus from the shakespeare to bowness
Just after 7:20 Quantic - time is the enemy 2001, starts at same output level as the previous tune on the radio amazing, time travelling tune? or intentionally inserting in the video, suits the scene well, I'll say no more
Wow, Kendal is a lot less purple than it used to be.

Bloody hell, you can’t drive down Sparrowmire lane like that anymore, it’s like a car park now!
Makes me miss Kendal, especially in those days!!!!
That's a brilliant watch for any of us living in Kendal - Very interesting - thanks for sharing =D

@Brian-om2hh it used to be full on a early Sunday mornings with lads rough off the drink sitting out until the pubs opening time 12-2.00
Great video thanks
Fascinating history, 10 years before our arrival in town. A lot has chafed, a lot hasn't.

Most British folk are too philistine to let such a thing happen. We take our lead from across the Pond, culturally, economically and in most ways.

Well at least it wasn't raining! My Escort XR3i was parked in one shot at Elm Court.
