MyCareer getting rid of the draft is where it lost me. I like the realism in not picking my destination and playing with the cards dealt
i think part of that comes from the attachment of mycareer to park, a lot of people just want to use mycareer for badge grinding and dont wanna deal with kyle kuzma missing and costing them an assist.
That’s why 2k is declining honestly
Yeah, like what is the sense of a career if you can just select the most overpowered team and win all the first season? They got rid of the "before draft" part, while on nba 2k 16 i believe, you had to play highschool and college game, and getting drafted according to your performances in those games.... 2k is slowly becoming the basketball version of EA
@@damn_jaz9895 EA actually had great ideas in terms of going to the streets and playing but I felt as tho they could have expanded and used the new engine but I know if EA comes out they gonna bring some heat cause EA had some great graphics especially the courts
I don't understand why they don't do what MLB the Show does and let you choose whether you go to your chosen team or to a random team.
2K10 to 2K13 were peak basketball gaming. They introduced the "RPG elements" of modern sport sims while still teaching/allowing you to utilize real basketball concepts and strategies. No VC, no ads, no bloat. Just ball and a great soundtrack.
Right on the head. It burns me how much things usually get bogged down by corporate greed. Espn nfl 2k3-2k5 and ncaa March madness 07-10 are other examples. Take me back man.
2k13 is where vc started
I think the downfall is also due to the community. Back then, we just had fun playing whatever we want, however we want. Nowadays, people take games way too seriously and always trying to play the meta.
@@AkaHoodieVC started in 2k10 but you couldn’t buy it
Battle passes ruined gaming as a whole
Also, they got rid of Summer League on 2k12 because ppl complained about the grind.
They need to bring back offline MyCareer.
Remember the SL grind in 2k11 was always fun. Was always a sf and hated having those games of playing with ball hog john wall. Good times
@@JamesTheEmperor I vividly remember wesley johnson dropping 50 on me in the combine games 😭
@@djandrews168 oh hell nah 😂
EA is also guilty of this. Since NHL 21, you can no longer be sent down to the AHL. The draft is laughable at best, with the same 3 damn teams able to draft you and no matter how bad you play or if you sim to the draft, you’ll more than likely go #1 overall. What if I wanted to be an AHL journeyman who has to fight and scrap his way into the major leagues?
I do prefer NBA 2K11, because they added the combine games and the NBA Draft. Which, to be fair, 2K did add to 10 as paid DLC.
Don't forget that today's 2K carreer only last like 2 years and after that they shut down the server, and your save game goes to the trash. That's why I only playing like creating a player, put him in a roster and playing franchise mode. You can set it up that you play only with that player. -> Free MyCarreer, like in 2009
Real ones know bout that Player Lock
I've been using that since NBA live 2003, way before when a mycarrer was only in my imagination and never expected to be a real feature one day
If my memory serves me correctly, you could also find someone online to play against your franchise team
Ngl I feel like nba live 19 is a great modern example of this. Start as a 70, decent but not crazy, and grind your way to an elite player. I enjoy how they’ve handled career mode in their last few entries.
This era of gaming is peak. 2k10, Red Dead 1, Mw2 and Fallout 3 were staples of this period. The mycareer with Tom from the boondocks headahh as your tutorial mentor was the best man.
The arc of the grind is what made 2k10 era MyCareer fun - not having the crutch of VC to artificially boost your stats meant that they had to actually design the XP system to provide a sense of progression and fun.
I remember doing builds around this time that would be totally nonviable online - stuff like a Tayshaun Prince build where all I did was try to get triple doubles without points, or the John Stockton PG with no dribble moves.
The fundamental misunderstanding of the studios is that the best stories in sports games are the ones you made yourself and not in the cheesy cutscenes
Kofie hitting me with the feels like, "Remember when 2K was better?" 😭😭😭😭😭😭 Nostalgic AF
I swear shooting attributes in this era of 2k were broken. The sweet spot was 82-85 and when you got around 90 I swear the percentages always went down. Even in play now you could spam with a guy like Gerald green and never miss and only go 4/10 as Steph
I had players with 25-35 just to try that and always had around 50% fg
Maaan this was my first next-gen 2k at the time. I remember being, like 12-13 ish, and being absolutely blown away by the myplayer mode. Couldn’t fathom how advanced the future could be at the time. To say it’s been a disappointment now that we’re here is an understatement lol. But at least we’ve got the old gems from a time when they cared!
I have said for so long that 2k10 is my favorite 2k. There was also no cap to your player. You could become a TRUE 99 overall. A 7'4" demigod with handles, a 3, blocking every shot, and could hang in the post.
The algorithm is a scary thing. I just bought 2k10 again for 3 bucks on ebay lol. I'm having so much fun with my center. This was the first "modern" 2k I ever played
IMO 2k10 mycareer was ass because of the bugs and shit, I like 2k11 more than 2k12
Thank y'all for liking and supporting the videos! Feel free to lmk what I should talk about next!
NBA 2k11 crew mode, pickup game mode, and Jordan challenge
2k10 was a great game. 2k11 is my favorite of all time, so many memories
I played the shit out of this game. My MyCareer player was named Carlos Cannon and averaged a quadruple double with steals. There was a glitch if you guarded the PG on the inbounds pass they would throw it to the other player who passed it back to the PG every time so it was really easy to steal.
That glitch is the reason why I still play press to this day in mycareer 😂😂
😂😂😂😂 Yoo I used to do that too
I used to do that every game 😂😂
Averaging a double double in steals was so fun 😂 I love we all found that out
I didn’t have 2k10 but I know from 2k8-13 was just perfection
Shout out to NBA Live 2005 too though
You know what I miss? I miss being able to watch my team play without having to actually play the game. It gave that GM "look at what I built" type of feeling. I stopped playing 2k for a while and the last one I picked up (don't remember) was so disappointing. I miss being able to do that across all the sports games
The only thing was the glitch at the end of the season. You could be playing for the lakers and in the offseason the game will give you 4 options
Sign with magic
Sign with nuggets
Sign with Celtics
STAY with Cavs???!
I got it and ik Chris Smoove got the glitch too. Also if you went to the D league you couldn’t leave the D league lol you would get 2 10 day contracts but back to the s league my cousin 3 peat in the d league before he restarted 💀💀😂
Get that guy a MANUAL
I remember that too
I really appreciate you for this video. This was my favorite. Crew was competitive, cheesy, legit, and illegitimate all at the same time. No one remembers the 7ft Pgs been around. Cheesy drifters. You name it.
What could be a cool idea is a Jordan Challenge video. That's what got me into 2k with 2k11 and then they did a new expanded version in 2k23.
I don't know about the last few years, but 2K in the previous gen leaned heavy into narrative storytelling for MyCareer, which was bad IMO since it basically generalized the entire experience for everybody. The best part about old 2K mycareer was that it was a custom player and RPG style progression, so you basically filled in the narrative details yourself. I always liked to see what the CPU did with the other teams in the league and some of the other CPU-generated star players.
We need that ESPN NFL 2K5 deep dive asap!!! First person pov football is STILL ahead of its time, your house with all your achievements and favorite team memorabilia, etc. the game just did too much to not be talked about
I miss these 2ks 2k10-14 hold a very very special place in my heart
2k10-14 my career was beautiful even 15 for when it first came out
I Remember Thinking About The *Draft* All Day At Work, I Was *Geeked* Getting Selected *Randomly* By The *Thunder* That *Grind* Will *Never Be The Same* 💯
Man the VIBES! Just load up and hoop. Earning that spot for starter when you finally cracked the line up, just awesome.
2k10 was sooo difficult but amazing when u learned it. This was my first ever 2k. Was a Live kid. I remember the first guy I ever made i literally couldn’t make it to the league I was in the G league the whole time. Had to make another guy. Great times! S/o ROOTS by Flo Rida. Used to love tht song on here.
Hey kofie, great video! You should make a video on the differences between early nba live and 2k, and why most people used to prefer nba live
I really likedthese early mycareer modes that didnt have a lot of story but a lot of room to develop and create your player in any direction.
You werent just treated like the next big star.
loving these longer videos
16:42 BRO! that C.Butler/T.Evans jumpshot was MONEY in this 2K! Loved using that animation! Took 14 years, but glad to know someone appreciated it too 😆
Not a specific game request just would love to see more content on games that are associated with the 2000’s
I'm happy you made this because almost nobody believes me when I tell them my player in 2k10 started off 39 overall playing in the D League.
Love listening to you talk yapping videos are the best very relaxing
Great video as usual Kofie!
One thing that screwed me over with this era of mycareer; if you upgrade attributes it will take forever to get a high overall but if you upgrade the awareness attributes it will shoot up.
Yo Kofie, my best memories of nba2k came from 2k12. The career mode in that game made me actually love basketball, idk how to describe how it happened other than it was so fun it had me watched every game I could for a couple years. Got suspended from school for a week & ended up maxing out my player, Mo Green. Went on to play for the Kings my entire career and win them 2 championships with Isaiah Thomas and Cousins. It was a wild time and definitely my favorite 2k game to date. Most the new ones aren't any fun and kinda cringe lol
If you ever get a chance, I'd love a nba2k12 mycareer review!!
I never thought I would say it but I miss the old 2K10-2K12 grind. MyPlayer just seemed so much more fun and innocent then..At least until people figured out how to use mods on the game and brought these big 8 foot 5 PGs out to crew. 2K did nothing to patch it for all 2K10 and 2K11 and just took out MyPlayer online altogether on 2K12. Then when they brought it back on 2K13 you had to be on the servers to use certain features and instead of modding, you could just buy your way to 99 everything. 2K13 was really the beginning of the end when you think about it.
What about the Madden Camps on the Gamecube/ps2 Madden games
Rushing attack was goated and just isn’t the same in today’s game
What I noticed about the builds was is if you choose all around you have the best chance of being able to do most things even dunk but if you choose athtltic you where buns but also if you chose scoring you where not athletic at all the highest I ever got in 2k11 was 85 ovr
I’d love a deep dive into The Bigs (1&2), that game was so much fun on the Wii and the home run derby was legit one of the most fun sports game experiences outside of Mario Sluggers. I’d love to know what the max score possible on that mode was
Thank you for today's presentation
Great vid bro 💪🏼
This one was the most satisfying grind
You ever done anything on College Hoops 2k8? That recruiting system was next level in terms of depth. The basketball video game world has a huge hole in it since that franchise ceased to be made.
Would be intrigued for you to talk about NHL 2K, or MLB PowerPros.
Solid video ! ay I been saying it once GTA 6 drop all that RPG City focus for 2k going out the window as they won’t be able to compete with Rockstar Games at all so it will hopefully all prosperity towards MyCareer comeback. We miss that realism !
As someone who does not enjoy the online aspects of mycareer and only plays the NBA games without buying VC, I feel like the game still has a lot of the traits you talked about with progression, having to learn some go-to moves and grind your OVR up slowly. I really enjoy adjusting the coach settings to auto call plays and show them on the floor so I can play within the system and fulfill a certain role. I also feel like it forces you to play the game proper to score consistently, although that might just be because I am TERRIBLE at hitting greens on my shots lmaoooooo
Aye I agree wit you but at the same time the fact that you can’t change quarter length and the lag in certain arenas when you make it to the league killed me. I just played it recently
have you made a video about madden 12? it was my first madden and i’d play it religiously i would love to see about the career mode
1:05 Yugoslavia still being an option is wild
Man I remember picking up a bootleg copy of this in China. There was a bug that fixed quarters to 5 mins and it tanked my teammate grade so bad.
i loved that summer league dlc with drose
Kofie, do you remember the 2k myplayer-ish combine demo with Derrick rose on the cover? Downloadable only I think. I brought my Xbox to a friend’s house to download it. Took 3 hours
This is what the career mode should be. Skill points and offline career mode without cringy cutscenes need to be brought back.
I’m liking the vid cuz the thumbnail. Pablo Sánchez is the GOAT.
I didn’t know 2k10 had a career mode I thought it started on 2k11. My first modern 2k was 2k12, played 8 full Years on that thing so worth it,
I remember a 24/7 mode one year where your player would regress if you didn’t play every day
Peak Chris Smoove era
Is there anyway to play this past the first season now on ps3? It’s a shame it stops after the first season
I love this game but everyone has accidentally hit a pull-up jumper from 1 foot and missed because the game didn't use the layup animation for some reason
2k's mycareer used to be very challenging and that's why it was fun
I think something slept on also what would make the game more fun. On my career if you put players from the past on regular teams it would let you play against them in your career which was super fun but man when you got to the play offs you really had to earn the chip
I actually wish they could bring back quests and like musical and clothing careers. I want the full NBA player experience
I would love a video about the NBA series. I specifically remember 06, 07 and 08 having The Life that felt like a precursor to MyCareer
NBA2k12 playing as a big man was elite
Any body has a link for pc to this game
MC hit the point of no return when it became monetized in the modern format we see now.
Can you start a series of 2k10?
You should do a video about the NBA Ballers series
Kofie pls be nice if my Magic are eliminated tomorrow
They aren't looking at a blow up coming up tho. They look like they should be better next season but idk their contract situations this offseason
2k10 made me fall in love with 2k fr
hope they bring the combine & summer league on 2K25 !!
OH SHIT IT'S PURRFECT VIBES IN THE BACKGROUND
I loved going to the D League in NBA 2k10
Watching in between the playoffs
You should deep dive on college hoops 2k8’s legacy mode 🔥🔥🔥🔥
i think 2k11 is the best one. I got drafted 2nd round to the kings and started because the team was super ass. Very challenging very fun
I forget which 2k it was, but you could essentially put Michael Jordan as a roomie on a modern team, and do a MyCareer with him instead of the 54 overall they give you for a starting player in MC.
Pablo Sanchez was a kid in backyard sports game!!!!
The game that opened my eyes to 2k
this was my first 2K
It’s depressing because the game will probably never be this good again
My man looks so fried in the Thumbnail 😂😂
Well, in 6:40 you got lucky that someone did catch the pass, because it got either blocked, or it was just so far off, that the not intended guy catched it
If you haven't played NFL Head Coach and NFL Head Coach 09. I'd like to see what you think about them. Fair warning they're both a bit buggy.
Need the nba street series.
The instrumental in this video
I'm not going to lie, I got stuck in the D league but still enjoyed it back then. I was really trying to make it to the NBA only to find out I was likely stuck do to a glitch
It only gave you 2 ten-day contracts and if you didn’t make it after that you were a G-Leaguer for life 💀
No one in my family likes basketball, I’m the outlier. I watched a RUclipsr i liked do a mycareer series on 2k14 frequency vibrations the spike Lee directed one. That’s what i credit to me being a diehard basketball fan now.
Cool
Victor Van Lier had the best acting in a sports game to this day.
I wish they'd do another insane story like 2k16
@@jtizzle124FOF, Friend Of Freq 😂😂
in nba2k10 i made a max height point guard and just cut to the basket for layups every play it was so overpowered
Can you do a video on 2K13 and the start of the downfall of 2K thanks to VC
Need a 2k Crew mode from 2k11 video.
WOULD LOVE 1 OF THESE ON 2K15🙏🏾🙏🏾
Something underrated about NBA 2k10 in particular, the player ratings were WAY more dynamic. What I mean is that the lower and upper reaches of the ratings chart were more meaningful - your created player in this video is a 42 Kofie, and he's airballing layups but more importantly some of his shots still go in. Meanwhile, across all of 2k10, there are only 4 players above a 90 (Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Chris Paul). This makes for a lot more possible variation between the greats and the mediocre, but makes mediocre players still workable. In current gen 2k, unless your player and specific attributes within a lot of categories are above 75, literally do not even bother. You'll brick everything and get the ball stolen from you constantly. It flattens out the differences between players and makes the game more boring.
This is how I feel about 2k11
Goin to d league for not being good enough was so fire
I’m 2k11 you used to be able to get sent down to the g league in my career
