Right on the head. It burns me how much things usually get bogged down by corporate greed. Espn nfl 2k3-2k5 and ncaa March madness 07-10 are other examples. Take me back man.
I think the downfall is also due to the community. Back then, we just had fun playing whatever we want, however we want. Nowadays, people take games way too seriously and always trying to play the meta.
EA is also guilty of this. Since NHL 21, you can no longer be sent down to the AHL. The draft is laughable at best, with the same 3 damn teams able to draft you and no matter how bad you play or if you sim to the draft, you’ll more than likely go #1 overall. What if I wanted to be an AHL journeyman who has to fight and scrap his way into the major leagues?
The fundamental misunderstanding of the studios is that the best stories in sports games are the ones you made yourself and not in the cheesy cutscenes
This era of gaming is peak. 2k10, Red Dead 1, Mw2 and Fallout 3 were staples of this period. The mycareer with Tom from the boondocks headahh as your tutorial mentor was the best man.
Park and MyCareer should be separated, or there should be an offline only MyCareer with no limits and as much or as little of a grind as the player wants. The game starts at $70, that should get us more than starting as a 60 in the flagship mode!
The arc of the grind is what made 2k10 era MyCareer fun - not having the crutch of VC to artificially boost your stats meant that they had to actually design the XP system to provide a sense of progression and fun. I remember doing builds around this time that would be totally nonviable online - stuff like a Tayshaun Prince build where all I did was try to get triple doubles without points, or the John Stockton PG with no dribble moves.
Don't forget that today's 2K carreer only last like 2 years and after that they shut down the server, and your save game goes to the trash. That's why I only playing like creating a player, put him in a roster and playing franchise mode. You can set it up that you play only with that player. -> Free MyCarreer, like in 2009
Ngl I feel like nba live 19 is a great modern example of this. Start as a 70, decent but not crazy, and grind your way to an elite player. I enjoy how they’ve handled career mode in their last few entries.
I have said for so long that 2k10 is my favorite 2k. There was also no cap to your player. You could become a TRUE 99 overall. A 7'4" demigod with handles, a 3, blocking every shot, and could hang in the post.
I swear shooting attributes in this era of 2k were broken. The sweet spot was 82-85 and when you got around 90 I swear the percentages always went down. Even in play now you could spam with a guy like Gerald green and never miss and only go 4/10 as Steph

I played the shit out of this game. My MyCareer player was named Carlos Cannon and averaged a quadruple double with steals. There was a glitch if you guarded the PG on the inbounds pass they would throw it to the other player who passed it back to the PG every time so it was really easy to steal.

MyPlayer just seemed so much more fun and innocent then..At least until people figured out how to use mods on the game and brought these big 8 foot 5 PGs out to crew. 2K did nothing to patch it for all 2K10 and 2K11 and just took out MyPlayer online altogether on 2K12. Then when they brought it back on 2K13 you had to be on the servers to use certain features and instead of modding, you could just buy your way to 99 everything. 2K13 was really the beginning of the end when you think about it.

Just make two different ratings. One that uses SP and only levels up the MyCareer attributes, and one that uses VC and levels up the online attributes. Sucks that offline players have to be roped into their shitty P2W system.
Well, in 6:40 you got lucky that someone did catch the pass, because it got either blocked, or it was just so far off, that the not intended guy catched it
Yo Kofie, my best memories of nba2k came from 2k12. The career mode in that game made me actually love basketball, idk how to describe how it happened other than it was so fun it had me watched every game I could for a couple years. Got suspended from school for a week & ended up maxing out my player, Mo Green. Went on to play for the Kings my entire career and win them 2 championships with Isaiah Thomas and Cousins. It was a wild time and definitely my favorite 2k game to date. Most the new ones aren't any fun and kinda cringe lol If you ever get a chance, I'd love a nba2k12 mycareer review!!
As someone who does not enjoy the online aspects of mycareer and only plays the NBA games without buying VC, I feel like the game still has a lot of the traits you talked about with progression, having to learn some go-to moves and grind your OVR up slowly. I really enjoy adjusting the coach settings to auto call plays and show them on the floor so I can play within the system and fulfill a certain role. I also feel like it forces you to play the game proper to score consistently, although that might just be because I am TERRIBLE at hitting greens on my shots lmaoooooo
Aye I agree wit you but at the same time the fact that you can’t change quarter length and the lag in certain arenas when you make it to the league killed me. I just played it recently
The fact that they just let you pick whatever team you want from the jump is what has mainly killed my career in modern games. Half the fun of MyCareer is grinding and seeing what team ended up taking you!
Kofie, do you remember the 2k myplayer-ish combine demo with Derrick rose on the cover? Downloadable only I think. I brought my Xbox to a friend’s house to download it. Took 3 hours
An offline mycareer where we actually have the the stats of a real 99 overall instead of some inflated rating dictated by some weird modifiers would be nice. A proper mode, not do it yourself in my league. But that doesn’t print money
Something underrated about NBA 2k10 in particular, the player ratings were WAY more dynamic. What I mean is that the lower and upper reaches of the ratings chart were more meaningful - your created player in this video is a 42 Kofie, and he's airballing layups but more importantly some of his shots still go in. Meanwhile, across all of 2k10, there are only 4 players above a 90 (Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Chris Paul). This makes for a lot more possible variation between the greats and the mediocre, but makes mediocre players still workable. In current gen 2k, unless your player and specific attributes within a lot of categories are above 75, literally do not even bother. You'll brick everything and get the ball stolen from you constantly. It flattens out the differences between players and makes the game more boring.
Solid video ! ay I been saying it once GTA 6 drop all that RPG City focus for 2k going out the window as they won’t be able to compete with Rockstar Games at all so it will hopefully all prosperity towards MyCareer comeback. We miss that realism !
2K11 was my favorite. Also, you were shooting too soon after your dribbling with your mid range gaurd, so your shoot off the dribble stat was taken into account, making you miss.
I forget which 2k it was, but you could essentially put Michael Jordan as a roomie on a modern team, and do a MyCareer with him instead of the 54 overall they give you for a starting player in MC.
I'm not going to lie, I got stuck in the D league but still enjoyed it back then. I was really trying to make it to the NBA only to find out I was likely stuck do to a glitch
I think something slept on also what would make the game more fun. On my career if you put players from the past on regular teams it would let you play against them in your career which was super fun but man when you got to the play offs you really had to earn the chip
My first NBA2K is 18 ,but not the next gen one ,is the PS3 edition ,the mycareer mode is almost the same as 2K12's ,and that was why I love the NBA2K ,and I play it for years due to the lag of money ,but when I finally got my PS4 and my second 2k 2k22 ,the career mode just don't feels right, I love the 2K that you don't have to compete with other online player, just play in your own nba universe. I hope that 2K make two type of mycareer mode
I was used to play a tiny point guard like 183 cm and play a long time in denver , Wilson Chandler and Gary Harris was always being let wide open so I had a lot of free assist😂
I think this video encompasses gaming in general tbh... The era before mtx took over and gaming became mainstream.. playing games for the sake of.... Having fun!! omg
MyCareer getting rid of the draft is where it lost me. I like the realism in not picking my destination and playing with the cards dealt
i think part of that comes from the attachment of mycareer to park, a lot of people just want to use mycareer for badge grinding and dont wanna deal with kyle kuzma missing and costing them an assist.
That’s why 2k is declining honestly

An offline mycareer where we actually have the the stats of a real 99 overall instead of some inflated rating dictated by some weird modifiers would be nice. A proper mode, not do it yourself in my league. But that doesn’t print money
Great vid bro 💪🏼
So many times in 2k10 my career, i was sent down to the D-League and spent the rest of my career there. 😂
Love listening to you talk yapping videos are the best very relaxing
I forget which 2k it was, but you could essentially put Michael Jordan as a roomie on a modern team, and do a MyCareer with him instead of the 54 overall they give you for a starting player in MC.
I didn’t know 2k10 had a career mode I thought it started on 2k11. My first modern 2k was 2k12, played 8 full Years on that thing so worth it,
I'm not going to lie, I got stuck in the D league but still enjoyed it back then. I was really trying to make it to the NBA only to find out I was likely stuck do to a glitch
It only gave you 2 ten-day contracts and if you didn’t make it after that you were a G-Leaguer for life 💀
I think something slept on also what would make the game more fun.
It’s depressing because the game will probably never be this good again
I think this video encompasses gaming in general tbh... The era before mtx took over and gaming became mainstream.. playing games for the sake of.... Having fun!! omg
Pablo Sanchez was a kid in backyard sports game!!!!
i think 2k11 is the best one. I got drafted 2nd round to the kings and started because the team was super ass. Very challenging very fun
6'7, 350lbs pg is an insane build
Luka Doncic if he did the Shaq off-season routine 😂
NEED HELP PLEASE!!!! I’m playing it now on Xbox 360. Does anyone know how to change the quarter length in my career??!!!! Thank you 🙏🏾.
2k10 made me fall in love with 2k fr
NBA2k12 playing as a big man was elite
Is there anyway to play this past the first season now on ps3? It’s a shame it stops after the first season
i loved that summer league dlc with drose
MC hit the point of no return when it became monetized in the modern format we see now.
I’m liking the vid cuz the thumbnail. Pablo Sánchez is the GOAT.
2k10 had me hating the Maine Red Claws for keeping me in the g league for way too long.
Crazy to see all the accessories free right when you’re making your myplayer.. money hungry devs is what’s finished the 2k franchise sadly
