the part where you talk about how Mg is used by corals in the place of Ca helped me out at TON. my Ca is low right now and my Mg keeps dropping and I didn't understand why until this video.
Thanks for the video and I learned something today. Out of all the test kits, I probably am guilty of not testing magnesium as much as I should. This video helped me understand chemistry better. I'd like to see a video on how important it is to test and dose trace elements in our tanks and if it really important outside of what trace elements we may get in the salt we may use.
My vote is for Potassium and Iron. I understand they play a very important role in reef chemistry. I believe it's Justin Credabel that advocates testing and dosing of both Potassium and Iron/Manganese for enhanced color and vitality in reef tanks. I just thought you might be able to better explain their purpose and possibly desired parameters a little more clearly.
Can you do a video on how you take your pictures or videos? i use my samsung s8 and pic and its really good and clear but i would like to know how u do it and ur video setup areas for those closeups.
Strontium and potassium tests are so annoying.. Strontium because it also registers as calcium so you end up testing for both to get an accurate result with the strontium test. Potassium is just a very involved test especially if using the red sea kit.
I'm always curious about how much carbon plays a part in atripping elements like magnesium and needed proteins from the water column. Have you ever tested these chemical levels before and after carbon usage. I feel some people over use carbon.
Does ppm of Mg also tired to Salinity? One period, my tank salinity is 1.021, ppm of Mg always is 1050~1080. No matter I dose Ca/Mg reeftonic from "aquarium systems".
Are corals susceptible to magnesium flactuations? Are there any ill effects to lets say raising magnesium fast via dosing and if so what would be a safe raise per day.Thanks.
I've had very high levels of magnesium before and I didn't have any specific issues. In my experience it is more important to keep chemistry as stable as possible rather than chasing numbers, but long term, I try to trend everything towards NSW levels.
Wait wait wait there wasn’t anything inside your syringe. You were pushing an air bubble in the video. Yeah your plunger stopped at a certain point but there was no reagent inside the syringe so that wasn’t an accurate measurement. I know this because I have the same problem
If you pull the plunger until the 1ml mark and then push it to the 0.2 ml mark you will be putting 0.8 ml to the solution even if there is a bubble on the top, that doesn't matter unless you start getting air OUT the tip instead of the regent

Please do a video for important trace elements
Thanks for the Video! Do Potassium next! How do you feel about higher than natural seawater levels of Potassium?
The relationship between Alk and Nitrates would be a great vid.

I would like to see how dosing iodine helps my reef tank and how I should test for it.
Thanks for clarifying such an important subject
Id love a good video on Potassium, which is a VERY neglected nutrient

which pellets are you feeding to those Blastomussa in this video.
Is there a one stop shop test kit for all corals???
Super help video like normal I did my first ever magnesium test today and I emptied the entire syringe than it went blue.
What role does strontium and molybdenum play in the triad of calcium, alkalinity and magnesium? Thanks.🤔

Thanks Than - enjoying the chemistry videos.
Looking forward to potassium and iodine.
can you do a video about bacteria for corals and zeolite?
I would like to see a video over ph swing. morning to night and how far it can alter. effects of changing ph ect.
Some segments in the video are stamped not adjacent to each other
Next PH-Strontium-Iodine-Potassium with Salifert test kits

How to reduce it? If Magnesium too high.
Oh and another great video Than!!

Very nicely edited and informative too 🤗
Mr T!!!!! Superb Video . Thank you for Making these Videos :)

Hi Than, left my lfs yesterday with a 1700 mag level. Calcium 420 and Alk 11, so thise were fine. But what harm can my high Mag level cause? Thanks
what about high levels of magnesium 1590+ppm is there any ill effects long term

What about chlorine level
Great video.
trace elements please and amino acids
Nice Video!

Great info and vid.. The Sony Underwater Action Cam which model is it /
I have the Sony FDR-X1000V. I'm going to be selling it soon because I don't have any more dive trips scheduled this year (I upgrade every so often).
time for me to take out a loan and make an offer lol.. I cant watch your videos without wanting to break the bank on a good dslr camera

I use the Neptune Systems Trident to monitor all my parameters.
Mg was the key for me. Once Mg was stable the growth took off.
I literally have the exact same magnesium as you but my kh is much higher

Someone has been watching matts reef
Watching this video after testing my magnesium… it was at 990 🤦🏻♂️
