  • Caulastrea commonly called trumpet corals or candy cane corals are a beginner-friendly LPS. The reason they make good beginner corals is three fold. Candy Canes are generally hardy. Second of all, they are not particularly aggressive compared to other LPS. Lastly, they are not drama queens when it comes to lighting them.

Spot on video. Had great success with these corals the past year. Very satisfying watching them split almost every month and nighttime feedings still are thrilling.

Great info. You are pretty much the only one i come to anymore for advice, straight forward , clear and decisive. In a world with so many opinions, it's great to have somewhere to turn with obvious proven knowledge. Can't wait to see what's next! Thanks for all that you do for our hobby.

1:25 I just saw exactly THIS from my candy cane this morning when the lights turned on! (I know you were stating that candies aren't necessarily that aggressive but mine so is) I was astounded! I had no idea my candy cane had sweepers like that, dang! I have to move it now as it was next to other frags O_O

These clearly would deplete the water of calcium and alk very quickly with the big stalks. Is there an LPS that would do this much more slowly? Frogspawn doesn’t seem to have the hard stalks..

Candy cane corals like a lot light and medium water flow, also feed them reef roids at night time, that is when they usually like to eat.

I know I'm 4 years too late lol... but I have a question. I'm getting into saltwater keeping. I have a 30 gallon freshwater tank, but it's my first time owning (but not my first time caring for a saltwater tank) a saltwater tank. I wouldn't even call it a tank though... I'm determined to get into saltwater keeping and prove that corals can be kept in smaller tanks... I've actually gotten a 2 gallon decorative piece that I'm going to put a few corals in. I've seen it done by a few people, but I've been told countless times it wouldn't work. Above all though, I'm still here and ready to try😂. What are some tips you'd give me for someone trying to maintain a pico "reef" 'tank', and have you ever seen this done? I need more ideas of very docile corals that won't grow out of control haha.

👍 Than, can you make a video about Psammocora? You talked about it in your last video with Rico being a coral people don’t usually go for. Also, Hydnophora would be another good video. Since some people say its an LPS while others say its SPS, I don’t know what are its care requirements. Thanks!
