Thanks to my buddy Eric for the help with Visual Studio Code!
And @BasicallyHomeless since I came up with idea while we were hanging out...He wanted the solar panels to be the desk itself but that's a terrible idea.

Is this the only way your going to edit from now on
Lol, your neighbors are adorable. I would love to live where you live. 😄
You really don't fit any mold. I never know what to expect when a new video comes out, except that it's going to be entertaining! And now you've displayed your humility, as well as integrity! Rock on!
Glad you think so :)
Hes right your a great RUclipsr! @@JoelCreates
@@JoelCreatesdo a rc car next
You should've added stabilizers to AR glasses and a pop up mechanism imo and then used shades
@@JoelCreateswhat design would work best if this were put in mass production?
You should make it a tradition to edit one video per year using this!
The desk has to move just barely faster every time.
@@amateural
Are you trying to take "keeping up with work" to a new level? 🤣
I think every one
Oh so that’s how Vsauce, CGP Grey and William Osman do it.
@@TechTipsUSA nah Osman probably edits his videos, while he destroys his car with his excavator.
checkmate AI, try and steal this desk job
Yo 10:04
You like men🥱😭😳🙃🦶😉😘🤨🔝😏🤔🏳️🌈🤯❤️❤️👏
inb4 the desk gets programmed with waypoints and running a nural network for video editing.
"Mommy, why is the sad little hobo man talking to himself on the bike path?"
"He's an influencer, hunny. If you keep making little dancing tiktoks you'll grow up to be like him".
Jokes aside I love this video. I gotta give you props, this was an incredible challenge and you were up for the task. Can't wait to collab again.
Imagine in another 20 years people will just think crazy people are influencers with really well hidden equipment
This reminds me of the video of the homeless guy with the gaming setup
I have a couple of questions about the moving desk:
1. How fast are you going?
3. What do you do when you have to go to the bathroom?
4. What counts as editing?
Edit: I cant believe he saw the future and answered some of my questions! This guy is incredible!!
He even managed to answer them out of order 😂
Did you skip a number in the list
You turned this from a silly sponsored engineering project, into an introspective socially exploring experiment that also grew a little more in meaning with each step. I enjoyed the commentary about the project shaping itself also.
Great to see you back after the channel had gotten hacked! Hope to see your videos getting the attention they deserve even in 15 years from now.
I sub pls upload
he got hacked? one of those crypto scam takeover?
hacked?
@@Francois_Dupont Not exactly a crypto scam, his channel was promoting a fake Genshin Impact mod that probably was a virus. This video has been long gone, I just haven't been active online lately.
Your channel is truly impressive, the creativity between the engineering and artistic conception is really unique, and this is one of your best videos. I appreciate how considerate and genuine you are in how you interact with the public, most of these "social experiment" type videos are at their expense and don't make me feel like I want to support the creators.
This is genuinely one of the most creative guys on RUclips
Also Flexispot seems like a cool company
I totally agree on both accounts, a lot of his projects have been shockingly effective, and every project I've seen interesting the flexispot desks have been amazing.
@@cornonjacob fr, Flexispot knows who to support
I have respect for someone who can pull off seamingly dumb ideas off and, actually go through with them all the way.
You not only have incredibly creative ideas, but stick to them.
So here's a smile so we can share the one you gave me:
:)
Bro... Thats Insane!! Did the edit take more or less time while walking ?. I have a hard enough time editing on a still desk, Editing on that thing while walking must have been a nightmare that's crazy! I don't think I could do it.
Haha it was quite an experience! It took about as long as usual since I was forced to prioritize my efforts/be ruthlessly efficient. There is so much footage that I didn't go through...
Joel's idea is really cool! What a healthy way to edit! With FlexiSpot, you'll have a stable standing desk!
Man the segment from like 9:18 was nearly a Beau Miles doco - philosophizing about modern life and desk jobs and the outdoors, while doing something outdoors - love it!
The passive cooling on that thing must be insane. Honestly a pretty good idea, I find it hard to concentrate on a screen if there's hustle and bustle around me personally, but you done an amazing job, honestly I can't notice any difference. :)
Honestly, I do not care if I have to wait 2-3 months for you to upload a video, because I know for the fact that it would be absolutely brilliant idea in it. Quality always goes before quantity and this video just proves it. Fantastic job Joel, you are absolutely amazing! Keep it up man!
This video had such a genuine feeling to it. Even more than the usual from you. Was very enjoyable and I think proves that life is about your environment more than anything.
Here I am, watching this video instead of editing - thinking this guy just figured this all out. Not sure this is "Los Angeles" ready though given what PC components cost these days :D
What a surprise seeing you here, also love your videos❤
When's the next F1 video haha
While you did all the editing of this video on foot, walking, I did all the viewing of it at the gym on an elliptical machine. A fair retribution.
I also edit my videos, and this is a great way to keep moving whle doing so. Thanks Joel!
My crazy trike carrige gets the same responses. People do like seeing something new and different. Keep building outdoor stuff and see what your videos become.
I used to wear a pair of those spring-loaded jumping/running stilts with one of those armored motorcycle jackets, and the public response was amazing! So many curious people, it was a blast and really felt like being an actual well-known superhero. Outdoor projects rock 👍
Man Joel really do be creating.
I've seen some good flexispot sponsored videos and this is even better than all the others. We already have a flexispot desk. I love this idea and would love to have a go on something like this. The idea of working in nature is really cool. I'd love to see desks in more unusual / beautiful places.
Joel, I'd love to know: Are the experiences you had while editing on the desk going to change the way you edit in the future? Maybe taking more breaks outside, or even continuing to use the walking desk?
This is a much better video than another videos You've produced It felt continuous It felt like continuous build I feel like it had good construction just felt natural
I think that AI self steering with dedicated front camera monitor with emergency alerts like if you're close to some object would be great. If the first self-driving vehicle experiment called Navlab 1 from 1986 was able to drive roughly as fast as your desk, it should be possible to make something similar but better with today's computing power. It would not be a Tesla but still more than good enough.
Sponsorships like this are the best! Great video
First time in my 56 year of life that I watched a twelve minute long commercial from start to end and f*cking loved it!
Brilliant!!
Now I wanna try this with some Nreal glasses on my eboard. With a modded one of those old time vendor trays that hang from your shoulders as my desk. Have to mount a camera that feeds into screen to look forward as I work. Have to use some extra lipos in my backpack to power laptop and board long range. Already been working on guitar playing and mic’d singing while riding. An inspiration as always good sir.
This ad was actually really good. Like the entire video was an ad, but also wasn't an ad at all.
Wow what a complicated process! So cool to see this irl. Totally a good social exercise.
Literally the best sponsored video EVER. Using their product throughout the whole video is genius! Plus now you can say how many miles Flexispot will cover under warrenty if I buy one :)
Love the bike paths of Madison, Wisoncins! Some great memories
Just the fact that this is probably one of the most creative, and nicest videos I have ever seen shows how good this idea is. Often times I feel the most inspired when I go outside and I have a ton of ideas, yet once I am back home, I don't wanna do them.
i dont know if this is just me, but i can feel the difference in attitude that youre talking about in how the video makes me feel, based on how it was made. this is important, i feel.
What a great idea!
Maybe someone could open an establishment where you get one of these desk setups provided and you get a big field to walk around in. With remote work there are a lot of people this could work for
"haha lemme watch joel do some funny editing on a moving deck"
*gets a deep and nuanced take on what it means to be a creator, solitude, and the little stories woven into the fabric of life*
Idk what it is, but the vibe on this video was really nice. Great job as usual :)
Your commitment to the bit is just wonderful. Great concept, great project, great video!
Wow, the sponsor is really well integrated into this video. They're lucky to have you.
As a video editor, this is a great idea!
Your quote about leapfrogging between each oasis of opportunity really resonated with me. I always find im super productive when I plop down with my laptop in an unfamiliar place. Something about the new ambiance distracts the parts of my brain that usually pull me out of flow and leaves the creative parts of my brain do their best work, and this desk is such an interesting evolution of that.
I was really hoping he was going to add LiDAR or video recognition software to make it self driving. Maybe a part 2…
I now need a path paved around my house to walk laps around it. I'm certain other must have mentioned this, but I would look forward to having the desk walk itself, and stops when I can't keep up. 😁
Great work!
I am speechless. This is revolutionary.
my dude! I love the Velo UnderRound! Unfortunately I'm an east sider so its a little bit of a pain to bike over there. super jelly of the bike paths on the west side, I cant bring myself to give up the east side for them though.
You did a great job showing off the bike paths and beauty of Madison.
6:58 "Like what you do, but with a desk job." 🤣🤣🤣
As someone with a youtube channel, i have no idea how this guy has so many good ideas.
this is the most effort someone put into a video I've ever seen
Been a fan for a long time.
The editing on this video feels more genuine and more positive somehow.
This is the best video I've seen in a while. Original idea, well executed and good storytelling. Love how it is a combination of an engineering problem and a social experiment.
I'd love to see a video that's all the interesting interactions you had along the way. Great project, you love to see it.
Nice shoutout to Exposure Therapy! Always good to include Mental Health tips when possible!
This is great, would love to see how this desk evolves if you plan on upgrading/improving it.
That was one of the greatest YT videos I have ever seen. Well done!
I was watching this thinking to myself, "This had to have been filmed in the Midwest" And then I see the dump truck and it clicks! I'm from Milwaukee. I miss home so much some days. Loved this so much! Subbed, and look forward to watching the rest of your videos!
10:50 .... maybe I should try this too...
though here in Norway people don't usually just strike up conversations with random people they meet.
Though people maybe say hi when they meet when hiking in the wilderness, but that's just saying hello.
Man this was such a wonderfully story about a journey I did not expect to see here😊
I GOT A FLEXISPOT FOR MY BIRTHDAY LAST YEAR!! friggin love these desks. Being able to stand helps alot, although i dont use ot quite as much as id hoped cus i hurt my back shortly after getting it. Using it more by the day though
THIS is how sponsored videos should be!
Hey Joel! Nice meeting you and your desk (once when my wife and I were out walking, and a second time as you strolled by my new new neighbor, David - whom you know) in the neighborhood! Congratulations! And, although I did not get it from your sponsor, I did purchase an electric up/down standup desk for my home the same week I met you. Standup desks are great 🖥️💻⌨️🤳🚶🏻♂️
It was great meeting you as well Scott! Thanks for taking the time to say hey!
Treadmill + standing desk *exists* (this is absolutely sick though ;) )
This video was so funny and awesome!! Keep it up XD
What an amazing video, you should make this crazy "product" for others who want to be as crazy as you!
Joel's sponsorship game really is unmatched. I hate ads and I aint even mad.
I'd love a youtube short edited entirely while someone's skydiving :)
If you could collaborate with flexispot to make a consumer-grade moving desk like that, I think people would buy it, hell I would even consider buying one. I definitely don't think people would get it for productivity... but maybe for gaming?
This was so damn organic. Like the video really grew itself from the trail. I just want longer versions of this chataqua.
Beautiful video and story.
Also I do want to say I love my Flexispot desks.
i actually see that being useful at events/shows or festivals ect.
Amazing video, I'm glad you had so many positive reactions while you went out walking/editing!
I think the flexispot thing is interesting. One sponsored product given to a whole bunch of makers to see what outlandish stuff they can each come up with. Hacksmith, LTT, my man Joel
Awesome, and in winter you can use it at home with a threadmill
Working from home is out, working while walking outside is in
This is incredible! That's such a great concept, I could really use a walking desk, I could use that to build confidence!
You know, asshole are too many in the viral videos. this shows us human. SUPPORTIVE and it is AMAZING to see
What a cool fucking concept. I really enjoyed this video. I have trouble going to the grocery store too.
Mate, I don't usually watch your videos even though I am subscribed. I'm a subscriber that came from, I did a thing. I really enjoyed this because of its genius and exceptional creativity. I hope this video gets huge views! I will be certain to watch your content more regularly now. I will post this in the comments of other videos to share this brilliance!
"Yeah, I've been nervous about this part...but now that we're here? Ah. It's a lot worse than I thought." Every social interaction I have.
This feels like one giant ad.
and I watched this video on a chair
Wasn't expecting such fun profundity. Keep doing what you do! ❤️
Instead of a standing desk, use one of those lay down bikes. It’ll help with stability as it’s closer to the ground.
To make sure you don’t go too fast, change the gearing to give you much higher torque and less speed. If you wanna get really crazy, have the work station inside of cradle that auto levels to make sure you can go up hills without your drink falling over.
Imagine going up a hill at 25 degrees and feeling like you’re on a level surface.
This is awesome. I need one
This freakin awesome, and I need one
+1 for the Efteling remix music in the intro
bro I had NO IDEA that you could reflash hoverboards...
I made our manual gate into a motorized one with the use of a phone app, but I also had to get a motor controller along with it.. would've made it so much easier
I'm a little disappointed that you didn't get a single angry busybody asking if you had permission to walk and work on the footpath.
I think this video is exceptional in at least two ways. One, I like it a lot; two, I don't think this had to be a tied up story. I think that future videos can have their neat little endings, but if this is just beginning there's no reason to wish for an ending
I just ordered a cheap flexispot desk another creator was talking about. I am hoping its good. I have heard that their frames, even on cheap models, are decent. I plan on swapping the top out with something larger.
The fact you walked almost a 100 miles while editing this vide barely computes. Well done!
Love all the people's reactions to your desk lol. It's like having a dog but It's just taking your job with you on a walk
I had seen some comments in the local Nextdoor communities about your work (some very suspicious neighbors, but was explained right away). Happy to find your video in my recommendations today. We live in such a city full of nerds! B-)
That looks awesome! I would love to have something like that!
Now I want a live stream of you doing a long walking editing sesh, with a GPS overlay, your screen shared, speed and other current conidtions.
Using some basic computer vision for it to steer itself on the path would be a cool project
This seems so rough, it's awesome!! I would love the benefits of this but it's just so insane. I'll have to find a workaround! Thanks for this!
Being flat footed I couldn't imagine using a standing desk for more than like 2 minutes lol
"You've heard of a standing desk. But have you heard of a walking desk?"
