Will is an amazing understudy, but I love how Alex is probably the only person physically capable of doing The raspy voice. The whole ventricular fold phonation thing is one of my favorite random facts.
@@ThatOneTeen288 if you struggle watch the help video by the other Beetlejuice Broadway actor. Remember that Alex used false vocal cords and that for us it might be hard to get there. I am good at doing the voice now and I sound… like fizzarolli
Alex will always have the best raspy Beetlejuice voice but I saw Beetlejuice on tour when Justin Collette played Beetlejuice and he also can do the voice pretty good
I will say that, after watching these videos, I am appreciating Will Blum's Beetlejuice more now that I've had a chance to see his performance more throughout the show. He definitely has his own way to tackle the character and I do appreciate that it's not just him trying to be as Alex Brightman as he can.
I absolutely love seeing understudies have their own approach when they play the characters! Will Blum seems super entertaining to watch! I'd say Alex brightmans's Beetlejuice is kinda like: "You're going to die :)" and Will Blumm's Beetlejuice is like "You're going to die :D" know? Either way love them both
I like the performance but not as Beetlejuice, which is weird to said. My biggest (and only) problem with this musical's Beetlejuice is that he's a caricature of a caricature. He's Alex Brightman's caricature of the musical's already written caricature of Beetlejuice. Which, one layer was necessary as BJ needed. A character. Of any kind. So the only way to keep the Beetlejuice was to wrap all his traits up into a caricature to inject into the character they made. The second layer, Alex's layer, makes him a little...off model. TOO sympathetic by far. But still fine, he's good I love him don't get me wrong. Then Will comes in...and he's a caricature of Alex's caricature of the musical's caricature. See the problem? This guy is good but he's so removed from Beetlejuice that it's just not the same. It's like the direct opposite of the performance Eddie Perfect did in the pitch demo for whole being dead thing, where it's so on-model to Keaton's BJ that the change in character seems strange at first. He's not Beetlejuice in anything but striped suit now. Again, he's fun, and good, and funny, but I mean put 'em side by side and you're not gonna see any actual resemblance besides the catchphrases.
im gonna say it... assuming that sophia isnt hurting her voice (which she isnt, guaranteed!!! they are surrounded by vocal professionals to prevent that from happening) i love the way shes adapted the vocals with growls and squeaks and stuff it sounds so good!!! gives it a unique spin and she pulls it off perfectly. i feel like theres been quite a lot of undue criticism of it (or there was the last time i was frequenting beetlejuice videos) but i trust she is healthy and it sounds absolutely incredible!! a top tier lydia for sure :)) lovely video btw
After reviewing these moments, I realized that I like Alex Brightman in the image of Beetlejuice the most. The video shows Will Blum. Lydia was equally well played on stage by Sophie and Elizabeth (each brought their own zest to their heroine). I keep saying that this is the most amazing musical in the world.
You do realize that people need to take breaks.... every one in the cast has an understudy for stuff like getting sick, injured, or too busy.Alex Brightman is a main character though so it does feel weird to see someone else.
@@normalaverageperson. They are, they just have understudies if they need a break for any reason. (Understudies are people who take the place of the main actor)
This is what understudies and swings are for! Since one person can’t be at every single performance, whether that be from illness, taking care of someone, other projects, etc, the understudy or swing will come in for the performance of said night(s). An understudy usually covers 1-3 roles, while a swing can cover up to 8-9!
