I started off as a child with nearly straight hair (had a slight wave to it). Once I hit puberty (around 9-10 yrs old) my hair began to get curly (large, loose curls that were pretty uniform). Then when I was around 19-20, my hair became very curly (think Slash). Since then, every five years or so, my hair will change from larger curls and waves, to very curly and frizzy. Currently, I'm leaving the wavy phase and my hair is slowly morphing into a frizz. (FYI - My Mother had very straight hair with no wave to it, and it was fine in texture. My Dad has wavy hair that is very coarse in texture. I have coarse and fine and medium textured hair on my head.) Why does this happen? Is it normal?
Those are based on genetic testing. It's funny you say Sicilian, because all my Italian relatives have the straight hair. My Dad and his people were Irish/Scots/English and they have the wavy hair. (=
Jennifer Shelley It was just a guess. I thought that was the most likely group to have curly hair. It is funny how genetics is different from the stereotypes. I hope that learning more about DNA ancestry helps us all to move away from suppositions.

when I was 13 surely my hair got really light brown, and it got to a point where someone even asked _"did you colour your hair"_ I assumed it was shampoo, but it got slightly darker. As a kid my hair felt darker than it is now. I thought my hair was jetblack, went to a significant shade of light brown, to dark brown. Good questions! The genes for blue eyes and blonde hair are linked. They're both found on chromosome 15, so they tend to be passed on from a parent to a child as a single package. There's a good explanation here: genetics.thetech.org/ask/ask220 Your hair is made up of chains of proteins. When those proteins are dry and relaxed, your hair is straighter. But water can make the proteins tangle up, like spaghetti -- making your hair curlier. That's why when the weather is humid, wavy hair goes curly. I have light/medium brown eyes and dirty blonde hair. Its going to get medium/light brown when i will be in my 30s as it did to my mother and her sisters. But my eyes will turn hazel green i guess. My family changes so much. On my dad's side everyone with blue eyes gets yellow in them when getting old.
I found a stand of hair that was really dark but then really light and dark again. It was like changing colors every third of the way down. I noticed the really light part bc I have dark brown hair. But yeah when I plucked it out to get a better look, I was very surprised. I don’t know what to think.
I was born with black hair, it got lighter and strawberry blonde. Then it just got very blonde. When I was 10 to 11-yrs-old, it started getting dark on top so if I lifted my hair up and made a bun it looked like I was wearing a fake blonde bun. It got darker over time and now I'm a brunette but hair looks reddish in the sun sometimes. My dad used to be a ginger (or more like auburn or like a true red almost), now he's old and grey already but he has never burned easily and has always gotten tanned. I used to get tanned as a kid but it seems I don't tan anymore, I'm a very pale brunette with freckles. :D So there you go, figure that one out.
My hair color is a darker blond/light brown and I was born with hazel colored eyes but over time they have gone from a brownish green to dark greenish. I’m short 5’7’ stocky.
What about hair that darkens as you age? My sister's hair was light blonde, but it's darkened considerably to a light brownish color. (-or amazingphil whose hair went from light ginger to darker than night black?-)
Sometimes it takes a while for the genes to switch on (around age of puberty). This is likely the case for your sister like my hair for example used to be blonde but in time it got darker and darker till it was fully brown, my hair wasn't that dark until I was 12 or 13.
So I've always wanted to know why I have two distinct hair color. My natural hair color is dark auburn on top and black on the sides I also have black eye brows. This has caused people to think that I dye my hair.
I was blonde as a kid but then my hair turned brown :( I kind of wonder how I would look if my blonde hair stayed over time. I still have shiny body hair doe
I'm not sure where I got my hair color from because it doesn't match either of my parents (My mom has curly black hair and my dad has straight blond hair). My hair is kind of a bronzish color, and it's so hard to label because it's like a mixture of brown, blond and red. I think it's kind of a rare hair color because I'v never met anyone else with it except my brother who has a similar color.
Phoemelanin is the cause of warm hair, warmer it is the more phoemelanin they have. The reason why ashy hair is blueish is because it's trying to match their skin tone (cool complexion [pink and blue]) or your skin would look green.
My hair is somewhere in the middle between blond and brown(in fine line dishwater blond/light brown area, it's so annoying to try and label). Over a decade ago, I noticed a subtle bronze orange shine to it as well. Looks like my red haired mom's genes had at least a slight influence on my hair as well.
When I was a kid my hair was a blonde color and as I got older it turned brown I guess a bit of dark brown not sure but now I am growing gray or white hair even though I am still young. Lol :)
Why is my hair naturally multi coloured? All throughout my hair is blonde, reddish, white, dark brown(primary colour), and light brown/dark blonde... idk why pls tell me
My hair can’t make up the color it wants to be. When I was little little (3-4) I had brown hair. When I was like 10-12 my hair was brown inside but outside in the sun it was like a honey color with a slight red tint- now my hair is like dark brown/brown at the top and like a copper color at the bottom- (It looks the same color inside and outside, although you can see the color difference a lot better in the sun) but I’m very confused at this point-
The genes that you inherited from your parents determine your hair color. The only way to change the color of the hair you've got right now is to use a color treatment, like dye or henna. You can buy stuff to use at home, but if you've never done it before, definitely get a friend or relative to help out.
WELL my hair is like, brown/ dirty blonde when its short and then gets super blonde when its long Also side note, I LOVEEEEE redhair! Its so pretty to me and dyed or natural if a girl has red hair I'll date her
When I was born I had gold-hair like a dark yellow. Then it morphed into a strawberry blonde, then sorta reddish blonde, then dirty blonde, then just plain brown with light brown highlights, then ashy blonde, now it’s reddish blonde and I honestly don’t know what’s my natural hair color anymore :/
So Brainstuff your telling me that in the near couple of years science can genetically modify human hair color and does that result in also modifying eye color too?
my mom had medium brown hair and my dad had black hair. im only one who gotten black hair and my 2 sister was born with light blonde hair from are grandpa but soon turn dirty blonde as they got older and my 2 brother gotten dark brown hair. i always like the look of light brown or redish blonde hair but grew to love my natural hair.
My hair is grey, no joke man! Now it has strands of brown, and highlights. On the ends of my hair are gold strands, that appear and then fade quick overtime. My hair used to look red on the ends of it when I was younger. At age 11, I really love my grey, brown, and gold hair. I look so pretty in my opinion. Only problem is... My hair is SO FREAKING OILY , SMH
I've been wondering about my hair colour. It's brown in most parts But in some parts it's mustard-like and there are some very thin bright golden threads mixed with a predominately brown part. What colour is it? From my research it seems to be mousey brown or dark blonde. If it helps i was blonde when very young, like 2 or 3 years old. Right now I think it's medium brown.
I inherited my Mom's brown hair. In my 20's it turned black. My two oldest daughters had the same situation. My wife had blond hair which turned brown. My youngest daughter and granddaughter followed such pattern. My granddaughter was pale white, like my wife, yet by age 9 she turned olive skin like me. She stands out because she has always had blue eyes like her great grandmother and great, great grandfather. We are all Hispanic.
My hair is literally Jet Black. I used to try and convince myself that it looked browner in the sunlight or whatever. No, it’s still black in the sunlight lmao.
What determines the type of hair? as in curly or straight? why do my head hair is straight-ish but my beard is quite the oposite? AND why does my hair is curlier when is a little shorter, but goes straight after a few weeks?
Does eye colour has correlation with hair colour ??? I ask this question because I have saw my friends with Light Brown eyes have Brown hair or dark brown hair. And I think that's very beautiful.
My favorite is genetic mosaicism, where a "dividing border" exists on the scalp itself, causing one half of a person's hair to be curly, and the other half to be straight.
Well it depends. If the person has warm light brown hair, it'll have Pheomelanin in it. If it is more of an ashy light brown, then it will only have eumelanin. If it's more yellowish, it will have some Pheomelanin in it. If it it isn't warm, yellowish or ashy, it'll only have eumelanin. There will be a lot more eumelanin than phoemelanin.
My hair was brown when I was born and then it fell out and turned blonde. All of my hair besides my head hair is dark brown. Blonde doesn’t suit me at all. Does anyone know what happened? 😂
My hair is brown , but there are a few hairs which are like orange and they shine a lot . My brother has the same , but in his beard , almost every hair in his beard are orange . Why does this happen ? My dad has dark brown hair and my mom said that she had light brown hair when she was young ( them she started to dye it )
Hmmm.... The "strangest" thing that I've noticed about (my) hair. I hope you can explain. As a small child, I had extremely vivid blonde/golden hair.... now in my (very) late 50's. My hair is now a dark Golden (almost Gold/Amber) Lite (very lite) brown(ish). Also, I keep my hair on the long side (more than half way down my back). And yet, unlike EVERYONE that I've grown up with, well...... they've all turned grey at some point during the last 25+ years? Why do I not have a single grey? Most folks accuse me of dying my hair, but I can assure you that I have never done so. Why does my hair not age, and turn grey? Not that I'm complaining, but I would really like to know the answer to this. Hope you can help. H's C.
I am one of those rare red heads who gets tan in the summer. I used to not get tan at all and just burn, but as I have gotten older(and even though it is harder for me to), I have noticed I actually get a little tan when laying out in the sun. Red heads don't usually get tan at all): hmmmm.(:
I wonder why the hair can get darker as you age? When I was younger I had much lighter hair, now it's more to the dark blonde type. And if you look at photos of my younger sister when she was like 3, she had blonde hair, but now she has brown hair.
The feeling when I have very light skin for being a Greek but my hair naturally are just totally black(they still stay under sun black so yea just black)
I have natural black hair but it turns brown when hit by a light or sunlight, I have a few strand of red hair underneath. Sometimes my skin hair turn golden that's why sometimes I called myself a golden retriever lol
I have very dark blonde, you can only see blonde when My hair is in the sun for a long time , So I have dark brown mixed with dark blonde.., hard to explain
I have basically black hair. I'm half mayan and Aztec Mexican and a little Puerto rican mixed in, and half Mediterranean/European (Italian, north African, arab, greek, Spanish, irish, engish, polish) and my hair on top grows more flat and straight, whereas the back grows kind of curly and outward, like an afro. why is this?
Flame | CsGo mine is black and still wet after like 4 hours on Panama's hot as hell tropical weather... it's not even humid as rain season hasn't started yet and it honestly doesn't matter how hot it is, it just stays wet

VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY Light so it appears white.

What is your ancestry? It is most likely normal depending on where your ancestors are from.
I'm a EuroMutt :-P . I'm English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, French, Sicilian, German and Dutch.

I’m full Asian, but I have red and blonde hair!
We have joke:"In Moscow you are brunette, in Madrid you are blond"
What about hair that darkens as you age?
My sister's hair was light blonde, but it's darkened considerably to a light brownish color.
(-or amazingphil whose hair went from light ginger to darker than night black?-)
Sometimes it takes a while for the genes to switch on (around age of puberty). This is likely the case for your sister like my hair for example used to be blonde but in time it got darker and darker till it was fully brown, my hair wasn't that dark until I was 12 or 13.
My hair was like that. I had almost blonde hair when I was little but when I was 5/6 my hair started to turn brown. Now my hair is reddish brown 😑
So I've always wanted to know why I have two distinct hair color. My natural hair color is dark auburn on top and black on the sides I also have black eye brows. This has caused people to think that I dye my hair.
In Forensic science, I got a microscopic look at my hair...wired. Looked like a brick tower.
I was blonde as a kid but then my hair turned brown :( I kind of wonder how I would look if my blonde hair stayed over time. I still have shiny body hair doe
My hair is ginger and I have blonde and brown underneath my hair what does that mean?
I'm not sure where I got my hair color from because it doesn't match either of my parents (My mom has curly black hair and my dad has straight blond hair). My hair is kind of a bronzish color, and it's so hard to label because it's like a mixture of brown, blond and red. I think it's kind of a rare hair color because I'v never met anyone else with it except my brother who has a similar color.
so what makes hair warm or cool...(comparing someone with ashy dark brown hair to someone who has dark auburn hair *both have high level of eumelanin)
Phoemelanin is the cause of warm hair, warmer it is the more phoemelanin they have.
The reason why ashy hair is blueish is because it's trying to match their skin tone (cool complexion [pink and blue]) or your skin would look green.
I have blonde hair and I really really really want to have black hair! It's so beautiful and im really in love with it!
And all blondes ugly
???
My hair is somewhere in the middle between blond and brown(in fine line dishwater blond/light brown area, it's so annoying to try and label). Over a decade ago, I noticed a subtle bronze orange shine to it as well. Looks like my red haired mom's genes had at least a slight influence on my hair as well.
I have the same problem lol
When I was a kid my hair was a blonde color and as I got older it turned brown I guess a bit of dark brown not sure but now I am growing gray or white hair even though I am still young. Lol :)
Same im so confused
Why is my hair naturally multi coloured? All throughout my hair is blonde, reddish, white, dark brown(primary colour), and light brown/dark blonde... idk why pls tell me
I got like brown, ashy brown, auburn/ ginger, and like blonde/brown/red/ginger highlights. I feel like a chamelion 😂🤣
My hair can’t make up the color it wants to be. When I was little little (3-4) I had brown hair. When I was like 10-12 my hair was brown inside but outside in the sun it was like a honey color with a slight red tint- now my hair is like dark brown/brown at the top and like a copper color at the bottom- (It looks the same color inside and outside, although you can see the color difference a lot better in the sun) but I’m very confused at this point-
I was born with very dark brown hair, but as I've gotten older it's become a light brown with reddish highlights.
My hairs is black, brown, orange and some golden strands 😂😂
Chhavi Negi Same! It’s weird but I’m the only one with that hair colour in my class. Most of my classmates dye their hair brown but denies it.
I think that's a hair color. My friend has that too.
I have black,brown,blonde, and red
I have dirty blonde hair and medium blue eyes.
Trinity Strickland wtf is a medium blue and same (just blue)
Sorry, I meant that my eye color is not very light blue nor very dark blue, so in between.
I'm Asian with innate brown hair, it feel so special to live among black hair people.
heyyy idk if u will see my message but can u make a video where u explain why hair gets darker through time plz?
2:34 The weirdest thing is my beard, top hair and eyebrows are all naturally different colours Blonde, Black, Brown and Red to exact.
Well wait a minute, why did I have blonde hair up until a little after puberty and it changed to darker blonde/light brown hair?!?
what about natural ombre hair?
im pretty sure thats from sun/chlorine bleaching, does it strip the eumelanin? I NEED ANSWERS
my hairs slowly turning black im ok with this because ive always wanted black hair
I am a boy and i HAVS blond hair I am 15 how can get brown hair? Like I don't want to go salon how do people have hair color when they born?
The genes that you inherited from your parents determine your hair color. The only way to change the color of the hair you've got right now is to use a color treatment, like dye or henna. You can buy stuff to use at home, but if you've never done it before, definitely get a friend or relative to help out.
I have black and brown hair mixed and sometimes my hair looks blue from far a way why
That’s so cool
WELL my hair is like, brown/ dirty blonde when its short and then gets super blonde when its long
Also side note, I LOVEEEEE redhair! Its so pretty to me and dyed or natural if a girl has red hair I'll date her
My hair is the blackest black a white russian can have
When I was born I had gold-hair like a dark yellow. Then it morphed into a strawberry blonde, then sorta reddish blonde, then dirty blonde, then just plain brown with light brown highlights, then ashy blonde, now it’s reddish blonde and I honestly don’t know what’s my natural hair color anymore :/
I want more detail on the other genes involved in the actual heredity patterns in different situations. Autosomal? X-linked. Other?
Thanks for this video. It is quite helpful for my Highschool Cosmetology lesson!
We are all Hispanic.
my hair is brown and my eyes are brown and i love brown i love my hair and eyes so much!
I'm just here with brown hair and brown eyes...
f o r b i d d e n s n a c c, I’m blonde, I’m a redhead and a brunette with brown eyes. So I guess... that counts.
My hair is literally Jet Black. I used to try and convince myself that it looked browner in the sunlight or whatever. No, it’s still black in the sunlight lmao.
my hair is a mixture of dark Brown, orange and dark blonde
What I learned from this video is that gene editing probably can't produce anime hair colors.
My hair colour changes every season and I just want to know why
What determines the type of hair? as in curly or straight? why do my head hair is straight-ish but my beard is quite the oposite? AND why does my hair is curlier when is a little shorter, but goes straight after a few weeks?
I used to have long blonde hair but now it's black. Maybe because I keep cutting my hair short.
Does eye colour has correlation with hair colour ??? I ask this question because I have saw my friends with Light Brown eyes have Brown hair or dark brown hair. And I think that's very beautiful.
So if i understand well, ginger hair is just brown with more pheomelanin
My favorite is genetic mosaicism, where a "dividing border" exists on the scalp itself, causing one half of a person's hair to be curly, and the other half to be straight.
Fresh out of the womb I had BLACK hair and blue eyes, a year later I had icy blonde hair and green eyes.. 🙄
Hey, I heard green eyes are rare!
why is it that a lot of white kids have blonde hair when they're younger and it turns dark when they get older?
Jorge I I read somewhere that in blonde kids, more eumelanin gets produced as they age. Nobody is really sure why though.
is it rare to have golden blondish brownish blackish hair?me and my dad are the only ones in my town that have a kind of color
Guys, when a person has light brown hair, how much pheomelanin and eumelanin does he/she have??
My dad has dark brown hair and my mom said that she had light brown hair when she was young ( them she started to dye it )
Why is my hair brown but looks a little bit blonde when light shines upon it? I had very blonde hair when i was a baby.
Well, the cause of gray hair is stress. Maybe you never had stress?
I am one of those rare red heads who gets tan in the summer. I used to not get tan at all and just burn, but as I have gotten older(and even though it is harder for me to), I have noticed I actually get a little tan when laying out in the sun. Red heads don't usually get tan at all): hmmmm.(:
Well, since people mix, it kinda makes sense. I know that some redheads can be black soooooo
I wonder why the hair can get darker as you age? When I was younger I had much lighter hair, now it's more to the dark blonde type. And if you look at photos of my younger sister when she was like 3, she had blonde hair, but now she has brown hair.
It's probably because when you age you get more melanin in your hair.
I am indian and after viewing this video i understand about science behind my hair (i love u host mam
I was born blonde an as I was 7- years old all the way to 10 and a half I had hazel and now my hair is lighter and is becoming blonde and wavy again
My hair is a mix of black, brown, and a tiny bit ginger. It looks kind of auburn in sunlight
I have darkish brown hair and when I’m out in the sun it becomes orange or red. Why?
I have very dark blonde, you can only see blonde when My hair is in the sun for a long time , So I have dark brown mixed with dark blonde.., hard to explain
I have basically black hair. I'm half mayan and Aztec Mexican and a little Puerto rican mixed in, and half Mediterranean/European (Italian, north African, arab, greek, Spanish, irish, engish, polish) and my hair on top grows more flat and straight, whereas the back grows kind of curly and outward, like an afro. why is this?
Ok so I was born with ash dark blonde hair is that normal?
besides the weather, do you guys have any idea as to why some hair can remain wet after hours while others dry up almost instantly?
black hair takes in heat faster ;)
Flame | CsGo mine is black and still wet after like 4 hours on Panama's hot as hell tropical weather... it's not even humid as rain season hasn't started yet and it honestly doesn't matter how hot it is, it just stays wet
depends if ur hair is thick or long also curly, and so on.
@@caridadchang7895 low porosity hair
My hair actually stays wet for a long time and I have thin hair.
What about the fact that my hair has changed colour 5 times, from brown to blonde to red to brown and back to blonde again... ???
my question is : why there are some people have white hair since they were born ,don't they have eumelain, pheomelanin ??
They probably have eumelanin but it's...
VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY
Light so it appears white.
I have blonde haor, and when I was born I had 1 black hair, my hair was straight but later on when I turned 9 or 10 my hair started to get wavy
