Another informative and excellent lesson. As an elderly player who plays a few other styles of guitar( not classical or any finger style) I have started flamenco with your tangos lesson. Is this a reasonable way to go.......Thank you again for your lessons.
Great that you're interested in flamenco! If I would recommend something, I would say that you could first check all basic techniques from first beginner videos and then you can go through videos you like. It's important how to do certain techniques. You can find them from my "Beginner level" playlist for example.
For those negative comments about not providing chord names...remember Flamenco is a very dynamic and elastic form of music. These are the standard por arriba and por medio fingerings that beginners learn. No chord names? Guess what...in Spain, often maestros teach their students with no chord guidance at all. In some cases you simply learn visually and by ear the various palos, forms and sounds. It is very much a method to teach good instincts. Even my own instructor doesn't teach the names of chords because they are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. You are not playing genres that adhere to logical forms of music like jazz or classical music. Even Paco didn't read notes or chords. I'll leave you with that. Be one with the sound.
Hi, would you recommend starting straight with flamenco or classical first? i want to build good foundation and technique and also solid theory and rhythm to be able to play what ever i like and not just one or two styles.
First of all, if you like to play really well something then it's usually almost impossible to be able to handle many styles well. Of course you can do some styles well but not too many. If you like to play flamenco, then you start with that. If you like to play classic, then you start with it. There's no boundaries or any rules that you should do something first..
@@JoonasWideniusOfficial Thank you very much for your reply. Well i am somehow stuck a little bit. I do not like all classical songs nor all flamenco guitar songs. Matter of fact i am not even interested in the dancing etc. of flamenco. What i like about flamenco is that it seems to be more open minded than classical and also has a big focus on rhythm and improv etc. where classical is just too strict but brings many other utilities etc. but very restricted in that you have to stick to the written notes like a religion. It is very hard for me to make up my mind.
Excellent video Joonas, superb playing and SUPERB tone, I am impressed sir. I enjoyed watching your video! BTW - what type/make/model of Flamenco are you using? Sounds fantastic, your string makes/models sound extremely clear and precise as well, love the sound of the guitar. I'm eventually going to be in the market for a new Flamenco guitar, let me know what makes and models you could advise, best regards and I'll enjoy watching more of your videos in the future :)
Thank you for your words! I'm using Koivisto Flamenco Blanca www.koivistoguitars.com and Philippe Bosset Prestige strings www.philippebosset.com/Comptoir/en/accueil/117-classical-guitar-set-joonas-widenius-clear-nylon-prestige-hard-tension.html I really recommend Koivisto guitar, you already heard the reason 🙂 I'll get an other guitar from him this fall, Flamenco negra.
Hmm..I'm not 100% sure what you mean by that? Basic idea is usually that there are these basic chords based in the tune/palo and then a lot more chords that are quite universal. Mostly from the jazz scene...
Hello Joonas . . . always enjoying your lessons . . . I'm wondering if you could address the left hand thumb position as well as the left hand wrist and elbow positions?
@@JoonasWideniusOfficial Yes, that would be great (like where do you place your thumb on the back of the neck, what angle do you try to maintain in your wrist and elbow)
so sad there is no chordnames and everytime you say a chordname you play the guitar and i cant understand =) Edit: But anyway, you have a very high knowledge and im thankful for your sharing. Flamenco is so strong
???If you mean frets, you can see 'em easily from the tab. Everything should be there. Strings, frets, chords etc. If you can't read tabs or score, you can find help from google a lot.
Is this useless and too quick accumulation of dozens of chords without graphs and written names suposed to be basic chords at beginner level ???? That's no teaching
If you know the idea behind it would help to understand. This is a short list of chords (I'm asked many times to do). It's not really a teaching lesson, better to say a short demonstration and a list of chords. I didn't write the chord names because beginners feel usually those quite confusing because most of them are not basic 3 note chords but 4-5 note chords with difficult looking writing styles. It's only a choice, but I've written them down in other occasions.
Recomiendo este vídeo . Gracias maestro y olé!
Muchas gracias!
Nice chords at last
Cheers! You're welcome .-)

Me queda una duda Cuando haces la rueda de bulerías veo que Tocas un acorde de más.El Bb con la primera cuerda
Aquí están los acordes por medio, no bulería directamente.

Standard tuning.

I remembered wrong...but in the end it should be quite easy to check via Google I think...
The only reason I suck at flamenco is because I don't own a black shirt
Hah! You should maybe buy one X-)
