Bono was talking about this song in an interview recently and mentioned how it really was a rock song. He’s right, while I enjoy the original version and their monster live version of it, this is phenomenal, and it could have been a big hit like this. I think these guys sometimes overthink themselves. Bono mentioned a straight up rock album in the works. I hope so.
I totally agree! Pop wasn’t unfinished in my opinion, as the band likes to claim. I think it was hugely overworked. It kind of lost a feeling of spontaneity and life. If only that album, and many since Pop, could feel as visceral as this sound check.
It would sound great with a pitch shiftr pedal, either for a Surfing With the Alien whammy feel or just glued to an octave-down (or up) chorus setting.
The PopMart version was great because Adam's bass was cranked up in the mix and the keyboard rhythm held it together. I was hoping Mofo would come back for the 2018 tour.
So much better! As is the rough take on the Pop Promos. The original sounds good but thats in spite of the production, it was a cool riff, it got overproduced but it was still good. Please remix and or rerecord the album as it was originally intended.
