    I have a 2009 vibe. I slid the closed side of a 14 mm wrench around the multi point clip that holds the e brake on. I pinched it on with pliers . Squeezed with one side of pliers on the wrench and the other side against the mount . Came right off

    One of the most important steps is not mentioned at all in the video, it is extremely important to monitor your brake fluid reservoir while bleeding brakes, especially with a new caliper. If your reservoir gets depleted you'll just pump a ton of air into your brake lines which is a major pain to remedy. I would hazard a guess that the reservoir needed to be topped off at least a couple of times to fill that new caliper with brake fluid. It's also easier, and cleaner, to check to see if you've gotten all the air out if you put a clear hose over the bleeder nipple while your bleeding.

    If you don't have the tool to remove the e-brake, there is a hack that will work. Take an OLD 13mm wrench, and cut a notch out of the closed end approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide with cut-off blade on an angle grinder . This will allow the wrench to slip over the cable, and to compress the tabs. Figured this out after fighting with the first caliper for 1/2 an hour.

    Thank you for this video. Good explanations and perfect length. Similar to the step at 5:40 when the parking brake cable is released through a notch, my 2010 Matrix doesn't have that notch. I can't find a video on how to compress 6 one-way catches which allow the cable to be installed easily by pushing it through a hole, but not so easy to remove. UPDATE...I released the parking brake cable tab using the closed end of a 14mm wrench...wiggling it back and forth over the tabs while pulling and eventually it cleared the hole in the fastening point.

    I did not know how to depress the piston in on rear brakes until i warched your video. One video i watched said to turn the disk with pliers but not to depress it at the same time! I must have damaged the boot because now there is a tear in it! I am just going to replace both calipers now since one is damaged and i am having no luck depressing them on this 2014 VW jetta sportwagen! Is it possible to just replace the boot?

    No parking brake adjustment? I replaced my rear calipers (they looked exactly like the ones shown here) and there is slight play in the handbrake until the first click and the handbrake doesn’t fully lock the brakes hard anymore.
    I took off the brackets on the caliper that holds the spring and brake line to change the rubber and restored them so the spring is tight again. I’m not sure if it’s off slightly the spring is probably tighter than before or if it’s something else.

    Awesome videos I really appreciate these thanks for uploading. I however have an issue this doesnt address, on my brake caliper for the e-brake cable, there is no groove, the cable passes through the body of the caliper totally, and the cable terminates in a nub that attaches to the sprung arm on the body. So, from the nub down, the cable then sits inside what looks like an aluminium sheath which in turn sits in what looks like a steel (corroded) place holder that sits in a hole in the body of the caliper with no groove to pop to the side. I'm abit stuck as on how to proceed. Thanks!!

    Hi, I have a question, I was installing a remanufactured rear caliper on my car, and after hooking the brake line and the caliper bracket, I realized that the piston needed to be compressed a bit more to clear the new pads, while using the correct piston tool, it would not budge , not clockwise, nor counter clockwise, I will be returning the caliper to the shop, but I wonder , am I missing something? Could the piston be seized ??

    My rear caliper seized because I was unable to replace my pads at the required time... it’s sat for three weeks and my new ones just came, I’m all alone and weigh about 100lbs, lmfaooo I can’t stand those stupid clips!!! I’ve always done my own work and this was the most helpful video to refresh my memory on a few things, but today I just can’t get any bolts off except my tire... I’ve never had a problem that I couldn’t figure out when it comes to mechanics and not being strong enough usually a long bar or something I’ll do and stand on it for leverage but not this time... I don’t know is it safe to spray like WD40 (or whatever like lubricant?idk I can have Napa deliver same day)on those to loosen em and try again tomorrow? What if it drips on the hoses or something or my rotor I’m replacing the calipers and pads but my rotor is okay I only drove about two hundred yards very slowly when I felt it lock up so the heat was minimal and no gouging or warping but the bracket for my (now obviously empty and useless) brake pad did fall off about 45 seconds before the obvious reaction of seizing up of the caliper 😭😭 my husband passed away a year and half ago someone help me how can I loosen the bolts holding my caliper on without damaging anything or myself?

    • @katrinadoyle9635
      @katrinadoyle9635 3 года назад

      And also i usually use brakleen on my stuff can I spray and clean my rotor with brake cleaner while it is still ON my vehicle? It says not to get overspray on a list of things on the can but I’ve only cleaned the rotor when we replaced an entire axle and all of the corresponding pieces with friends, and I’ve not replaced a CALIPER on my vehicle in literal YEARS because this one I’ve not had for long and home a lot from local covid restrictions... anyways brakleen, safe to spray and clean rotor with and if it gets on a hose or something else should I worry, also can I use it to clean other things under there that look rusty or gross or other bolts that are dirty and built up but I’m not removing just doing preventative measures for future removal? Will it slowly erode inside the bolt screw hole over time or the bolts themselves if not rinsed off? Just 🧐 curious now I can ask google I’m just bored and curious LoL 😆

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  3 года назад

      +Katrina Doyle Thanks for watching! None of those sprays will damage anything in that area, so no need to worry. You can try using a breaker bar which is just a long wrench to give you more leverage.

      I've never seen one that doesn't go clockwise, or tightens as you are looking at it. My advice is to spend $30 on a tool set that will come with all the adapters for different makes. The pliers methods never works for me.
      And no you don't have to do anything once the new pads are in. The act of pushing the brake pedal moves the piston to contact the new pads. If that concept isn't clear you should watch some videos on basic brake system operation.

      +Ryan McLane We're always cycling through cars filming hundreds of common repairs for common vehicles every month. We'll add this to our list of repairs to film. Check back again and hopefully we'll have it soon.

    What can you do if that plastic piece for the e- brake is broke, the one you have to depress before you pull the cable out

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  4 года назад

      +tabasco351 We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com

    Excellent Job Bearded Brother! I'll be sure to watch out for the flippy-do. Remember the flippy-do needs to go away from the caliper. :) No buggery mess for me. Thank You Sir!!!

    This was so helpful! One question, if I only replace one caliper do I need to bleed the other side as well?

    • @puthearasam6421
      @puthearasam6421 2 года назад

      It's would be best to bleed all the calipers starting with the caliper furthest from the ABS module. It pays to to be through and consistent otherwise it might cost you your life or worse the lives of others

    If you get a piece of pipe and hold your brake pedal all the way to the floor it's in the floor you won't leak out any break Fluid
