Right on the money here. This also helps that trail elbow from not over bending, which is a common problem.
Love the way we can see the consistency of your ball striking, great tip! Thanks
Well done Russell 👏 😊
We are told everywhere that lag, wrist set & release is where speed is generated. Even the guy I've taken lessons with stresses the need for wrist cock but I must agree it's easier to not use wrists. When watching DeChambeau, he doesn't seem to use wrists unless I'm just not seeing it. Using my wrists is causing me to hit fat shots too often because of not timing the release at the correct point which is accompanied with the down & forward move to start the downswing. I wish my ball striking were as easy as you make it appear!
It works. I never hinge at the top. I just turn my shoulders and follow through. I do a lil squat to shallow and follow thru. Very repeatable
Some people just don’t get it. The wrists with naturally hinge as you turn and your elbow bends. Try just standing up straight with arms straight out and club or stick or bat parallel with the ground. Just think about keeping your arms straight as your turn the object of choice, keeping it parallel to the ground. Your wrists and elbow will just naturally bend with thinking about it or forcing it. Russell is demonstrating the same thing except bent over to hit a ball.
Are you recommending the same swing for the driver?
Russell, I'm trying to find a video of yours I recently watched, filmed in daylight inside your hitting bay at the range, where you talked about compressing the ball, and warned about the tendency of some people of getting the club head in front of the hands at impact. I think the big message was hitting down on the ball, but I can't find the video. I think I watched it on a different computer so I can't just search recently watched videos. Does this ring any bells?
Russel, do the wrists need to remain fairly rigid using the body turn for power or loose to whip the club?
Nessecary to loose at release I guess
So in the next video your telling golfers to hinge the wrists back. Too confusing mate.
So wouldn’t this approach prevent lag, which hinders distance?
Lag does not create a consistent shot. Shaft angle or lean at impact does. They're not the same. Pros release their lag prior to impact. So unless you're a scratch golfer, trying to focus on lag is more harmful than good
@@johnnauman4562 I'd have to agree with that statement because many parts of the swing are only accomplished with proper timing that most high handicappers will never have. Releasing lag & wrist set are very hard to time with the swing happening so quickly. Only my opinion, but it seems most, but not all youtube videos are actually made for players with decent swings who are looking for specific fixes to specific problems & not the overall swing. Just watch other teachers here & they're all talking about lag & wrists creating speed equaling distance. High handicappers need a simple swing without many moving parts with fast twitch muscles that do create speed but not consistency that most people lack.
Tom Kim's swing comes to mind
& DeChambeau.
If i do not use my wrist to cock how am I going to generate power without snapping the wrists?
This is a head scratcher for me. The right arm will be bent at impact so this “straighten” feeling when starting the downswing feels counter intuitive 🤷♂️🤷♂️.
