This VHS, "Oh Canada", 1993 WS and "Back 2 Back" were pivotal tapes of my childhood.

I agree, it probably suffers from the fact that it only went 6 games instead of 7, otherwise it was a perfect sequel to the greatest World Series ever that took place in '91.
I'll say, it could have easily gone to 7 though. all 4 of the Jays wins were by a single run. but yeah, definitely an underrated world series that came right after what's considered the best World Series ever 1991.
The second of our four World Series losses in the '90s in Atlanta...which we all feel should have been only two World Series losses ('91 and '96 both got away)

I was at the Sky Dome with my Son when they clinched their division Jaun Guzman was pitching.
When they won that game all the rooms in the outfield unrolled toilet paper out their windows.
The energy and excitement was over the top! Proud to be Canadian!

Loved Jimmy Key coming in and having an excellent outing in game 4. Hard to believe the Jays depth at starting pitching. Outside of their top 3, they still had Key, Wells, and Hentgen, who all got serious Cy Young consideration (with Hentgen winning once) the next few seasons after.
Hentgen wasn't on the World Series roster in 1992. He emerged the next season as Toronto's 3rd starter, and a pretty decent one, too. But had to feel good about Key's pitching in game 4. Toronto's depth both in the rotation and the bullpen was just unmatchable by Atlanta. Both Key and Guzman had tremendous outings in games 3 and 4. Cone had a fine outing in game 6, and Morris had a decent one in game 1 (Morris's outing in game 1 would have been good enough to win most games Toronto played that season).
Ross Brooks the Braves had plenty of depth too but they elected not to use all of it. I always wondered why Cox didn't go with Leibrandt in Game 4--he'd had a solid season, 15-7, 3.36. Then he would have had Glavine, Smoltz, and Avery ready on regular rest for the next three possible games.
All that great starting pitching to match the braves and a MUCH BETTER bullpen.
What was the reason why Cox stuck with Leibrandt in the 11th in Game 6 rather than go with Reardon against the Winfield and the righty vs righty matchup?
That takes me back. Great times.
Hope they will make it back some day.

Joe Carter caught the final out in the 1993 ALCS on a fly ball to right field. He also hit the 1991 AL East clincher on a base hit to CF.
2 Walk-offs clinchers, 2 final catches in clinchers. Man is blessed.
Glad I found this video, I remember having and watching this VHS a few times. The interview with Jeff Reardon after he allows the Candy Maldonado walk-off in Game 3 is priceless. Great World Series. I have the newspapers from both years Toronto won.
But for 92 I remember my dad telling me we had to drive through Atlanta the day after Toronto won.

Watching this as a Twins fan seeing a former Twins pitcher playing for each of the 2 teams. Not to mention it's a series between the 2 teams the Twins beat in 1991 to win their most recent world series ring.

Wow. The losing pitchers of the first 2 games. Jack Morris and Jeff Reardon. Two former Twins. They were GREAT when they were heroes when they were Twins.
And they each earned World Series rings with the Twins. Reardon got his in 87 and Morris got his in 91 along with the series MVP.

Compare this to the 1987 World Series. That may have gone to 7, where this only went to 6, but the games themselves in 1992 were much more suspenseful.

Still can't believe someone would bunt to lose a World Series
They didn’t show on this video the very relevant stat. Nixon had batted .343 from the right side that season, only .263 from the left side. That’s why Key was lifted for Timlin-to make Nixon bat from his weaker side. So with that being the case, his biggest asset from the left side was his speed since he’s a couple steps closer to first base than he is from the right side. So his decision to bunt actually makes a bit more sense taking those facts into account.
Anyone else checking and rewatching in 2020? Used to watch this so many times as a kid in the 90’s that the VHS case was dog eared.

Also, Kelly Gruber was the best 3rd basemen a winning Jays team ever had until Donaldson came along.
Its really nice to see so many people still love and appreciate these WS videos and it wasn't just me. They were incredibly well done I would say from the mid 80s until around the early 2000s. They are still ok, I still buy them, but a lot of the newer ones I just watch once and that's it. And I don't know how to post the copy protected dvd ones.

This was the BEST WS Won by the Road team in 6 games that I can remember.
Who ever gave a Thumbs Down has either never played Baseball or never respected competitiveness on any level or Sport.
Game 6 of this Series felt like a Game 7.
william pavichevich I just thought about this and realized very few teams have clinched a WS in game 6 on the road at all. And the ones that have did not do so in any kind of dramatic fashion. There's 2003, Beckett shuts out the Yankees the whole game on 2 runs of support, that was a close game but there was no defining moment in that game like a bases loaded jam where it got super tense. 1981 Dodgers blew out tge Yanks, 1978 Yanks blew out the Dodgers, and that's about it. I know 1959 and 1951 WS were both 6 games too but couldn't tell you whether the home or road teams clinched, nor would I know if either game was close or memorable. So my point is, that 1992 game 6 had a very entertaining and very unique outcome that def is underappreciated. Of course we know it's all Joe Carter's fault.
Great world series but 91, 96,2001, and 2016 were better imo. Cubs winning in a 7 game series coming back from 3-1 was insane. The 95 world series as well with 4 games ending with a 1 run game.

A few memories:
C Pat Borders hit .450 and was WS MVP. That's amazing when you consider that he was not exactly legging out infield hits.
P Dave Stieb and all the other old Blue Jays. Also Tom (Cheek) & Jerry (Howarth).
I wish that I had bought the t-shirt from the huckster that had the Canadian flag on it with arrows and direction indicating, "This End Up".
And Borders struggled offensively down the stretch. He was worn down after catching 138 games during the reg season.
Cito didn't want Cone thinking about getting pulled if he's not pitching well in the 5th LOL. They pull the starters in the 1st inning nowadays.

Taxi Talk NYC as a MN guy I was never a Jays fan but you couldn't dislike Joe Carter. He was one of the most cheerful, good-natured guys you'd ever see in the game. The only time I ever saw him without that wide grin on his face was when he was playing through an ankle injury in the '91 ALCS against the Twins.

The twins had a solid 1992 season. Finished w 90 wins, 2nd place to Oakland. However from 1993 until the end of the decade they sucked.
If 1992 went to 7 games, it could have given 1991 a run for its money. Maybe.

He beat my Phillies in 93 and I like him lol.
He ended up getting the homerun ball in 1993. So it worked out. 25 years since that 1993 win brought me back here to watch these 2 wins.
Ricky Ma there's a really funny interview with Carter and John Kruk, in which Carter was asked where that ball is and he said he has it locked away "probably a little more secure than Fort Knox," to which Kruk replied "I know there's a couple places I'd like to put that ball!"

I thought that the guy at 28:09 was trolling Kelly Gruber with an overly extravagant mullet hairdo wig. Then I remembered that 1992 was the dusk of the great mullet hairdo era. On closer inspection, the fan's long flowing curly mullet rivals even Gruber's. Gruber must have been envious. You could lose a fly ball in a tangly jungle of hair like that.

Yeah I found that pretty cool myself. Len Cariou should have kept this job until the day he died. It should have stayed in this format. They changed it in 1998. I still think the 98-2001 videos were fun but I think they became more about hype and less about suspense. And over time they just became less and less memorable from there. I get the new one every year now but I usually watch it once and then it goes on a shelf and I never watch it again.
@@billny33 Yeah I agree. I have a box set from 2009 of every World Series DVD collection. The last World Series DVD I bought was in 2009 when the Yankees won the World Series. I've only seen the last 2010's World Series Documentaries on RUclips or on MLB Network for Thanksgiving marathons. Some of them are good I just have no interests in collecting more World Series DVDs at this point in my life. If the Yankees ever win again that's going to be the only exception for me buying more World Series DVD films.

I believe a lot of it is stock soundtrack. If you watch a few of the other videos produced around the same time, they recycle the music. But it was very well chosen. GREAT editing.

The 92/93 Blue Jays we're great teams and dominated the league. It's a shame they're overlooked because of the strike in 94, and the Yankees dynasty happened the rest of the 90's.
Not to mention that and the 90s Braves. This is weird because I feel like history sees the 90s Braves as the greater team when they actually won less World Series than Toronto and lost to them head to head in a WS. But yeah Toronto failed to be competitive from 94 on and the Braves kept winning division titles.

51:45: When I saw that live as a kid, I was sure the ball sailed over the railing and the game was over right there. Thank goodness it wasn't. (and Maldonado with TWO near chokes in that inning, he's fortunate they won anyway!)
toptenguy1 interesting thing is that years ago it would have done just that and the game would indeed have been over. It's the netting that saved them there.
As a Braves Fan i hated losing this one after coming so close the year before even though it was also well played. Only thing that still annoys me is Kelly Gruber and the Blue Jays mocking the Chop.

Im sorry man but if thats how it came out, then I have no idea how I could re-record this in a way that would get both audio channels working. I never noticed this because I never listened to it with headphones. I recorded this the same way I did all my other tapes so I wouldnt know where the issue is.
Maybe it could be fixed in an editor or mixer though online. I could look into that. Sorry, just thinking out loud here.

No kidding, making it all the more shocking that they let the Phillies eliminate them.
That starting pitching rotation was probably at its peak that year with Glavine, Smoltz, Maddux and Avery. Yeah, they still had those 4 when they won it all, but Avery kinda declined then. Had he not of hurt his shoulder, he would ALSO be in the HOF with Glavine, Smoltz & Maddux.
Why the Cubs gave Maddux to the Braves? I have no idea.
....if you keep the game close, the braves were vulnerable because of their trash bullpen.
@@dfcintron true but in those days and still some teams today would use their starters to close out games, particularly in the World Series.
@@JonNobleNobelOne braves prob shouldve done more of that. If you look at the scores of their playoff games in 92, 93, and 96. They only ever won when it was a shutout or a blowout. They lost pretty much every 3-2, 4-3 type game.
