Phil there should be a small PCB board in the top of the camera on the left side under the power button and selector wheel maybe it has water damage as I fix a lot of cameras and these tend to stop working and prevent the camera from turning on.
If not that the power IC chip he mentioned that was in the area of the damage is worth checking. On iPhones IC chips often fail after water damage or just in general especially backlight IC . Common fault without water damage also.
Electronics might not always be the most fun thing but it's really cool to see a guy show people how things work how to work on it watching these videos just for fun that's great but when you can get some knowledge from it I really appreciate the talent this guy has its never bad to learn how to work electronics a little better and understand things
Only just came across your channel and this video popped up. I own the TZ90 and have have a few Lumix cameras (TZ70, TZ100 and few few other TZ Lumix models). The camera will only work with the battery or DC coupler, not via the micro USB. The micro USB is only for charging and data only. The camera will display 'To charge turn off camera'. The TZ camera has touch screen, and also a small view finder. There is a view finder sensor that detects if a face is near, so switches off the back screen. The LVF button is the manual override for switching between the screen and view finder. The DISP button can also switch off the back screen. When powering on the camera, the lens will extend. There is some further damage that could decide if you continue to try and repair the camera or not!
Phil, Great video. I agree with your hesitation on buying a second unit to use as a donor. The total cost for both might be close to the price of a new camera. I hope that your new workshop has decent heating. most of your newer videos show you in heavy jacket while your older videos show you only wearing a vest or light shirt. Best to you and the family.
Thanks buddy. To be honest it's not cold in the workshop. I just feel more comfortable in that jacket then in my others lol. That said, most of the videos I record seem to be in bad weather lol. I will be putting Central heating in the new workshop though
Oh man, I was rooting for you. There should be some fuses on that thing somewhere. Might have to get down to the lens assembly, and manually move it, to get it going. Great Attempt and Video! Thank You.
you should maybe try unpluging everything as many flex cables as posible and try to turn it on , or at least follow current draw where it goes , either thermal camera or alcohol to see where it evaporates to get a clue if any chip is shorted . Something is drawing that current find out what
I dont know if the tz 80 is the type of camera, where the battery door must be closed for it to work. The manual states the camera cant be used while cable plugged in charging. Interesting video.
those type of cameras has like a fuse in every fricking board and in the main board like 3, one for battery, other for flash and other like for the lens, and when has water like that but not power on is because sometimes the superior flex where the zoom is, or is the flex in short or a button is like always pressed, so if a button is pressed, the others buttons dont work, and so is the power button
Assuming you mean the image sensor and focus mechanism with "lens"? Unless there is a short there on power or data lines, it should not stop it from booting. In most cases, the screen will turn on and give an error message of some sorts if that part of the camera is damaged. It's not that different from a gaming console, it has power lines, fuses, data lines, some sort of BIOS in a flash or something like that. The power consumption is slightly worrying, I am guessing it is trying to boot and hanging somewhere, it should boot and then go into standby/power off if no buttons are pressed. If nothing better gets suggested, I would reball the BGAs after tracing power lines to find all fuses.
Oh Phil, if this video wouldve only been out 15 years ago when i needed it to fix an old Kodak camera lol, but at least if i can find it in storage i can fix it now 😅
I've not seen the video yet but I'm going with No. Got as far as "Hello everybody" and pressed pause. Then posted my prediction. C'mon Codger, work your magic. Well video ended. I won. The poor sod. I'm starting to feel really sorry for Phil. Videos for Xbox, Ps4,5 and switch are done. Not worth watching. Retro seems to hold interest at the moment though. Good luck bud. You've achieved so much and given so much to the community. Respect.
Cameras are a pain. I have a fuji one, X-T30, EVF not turning on, have tried every single thing, even changed the LCD driver on it, still nothing. Zero faults on the board that I can find but in general impossible to debgug. If one could only get schematics for these... nah, who would buy new then, right? :)
Be interesting to see you pit your wits against some old electrical stuff like B&O which Vince has been covering a few... Maybe do a collab with Vince, Joey, the two Steves etc, see if a mutual friend can take off say all the working components off a console board except the cpu and gpu stuff and the ram and have it up against the clock for the quickest time to a working console, first person to do it clocks the time then when done takes off the components and sends to next victi... participant and fastest time wins maybe start off with a Switch, then a Xbox of some sort then finish off with a PS... Console has to be working and the clock doesn't stop til its powering up and loading a game... just an idea...
Or try your hand at repairing a quartz or digital watch, Stes seemed to like it and Vince is quite good at 'em, some of the vintage quartz and digital stuff is a delight to work on from the electronic viewpoint where wires are so fine you can't solder them but use gold filled epoxy to bond them electrically... have to have the patience of a saint there :D
Love your videos but please please please can you put the screws somewhere safe in a tray or something. I know that you're a professional but it gives me the creeps that you lay them loose

Or even the button itself?
@@tyronenelson9124He tested the button.

Awesome to see you with a camera in your hand for repair.
At 31:58 this capacitor/resistor (can't tell) seems like damaged.

Have you checked the power button pcb/connector under the button?
Phil, I wish you and your family the best on your holiday also Happy Birthday to your son Cody.
Thanks buddy. Cody had a great birthday
i just saw a blown cap which you missed unfortunately i guess @31:55
I hate being that guy but....at 31:59, the cap on the right, was that gunk on top or a hole?
Can you find a Marshall stockwell 2 speaker that doesn’t power up and try to fix it?
I think you will be able to see what draws that 170mA under thermal camera
yeah step number 1 is find out that draw. its not normal. follow the input circuit and start desoldering stuff to isolate where the current is going.
Yeah I think I might revisit this one and see what I can find with a thermal cam
you should maybe try unpluging everything as many flex cables as posible and try to turn it on , or at least follow current draw where it goes , either thermal camera or alcohol to see where it evaporates to get a clue if any chip is shorted . Something is drawing that current find out what

wanted to suggest that also. Usualy they have a little switch at the battery door hinge...
It is not, the battery door switch is mostly a thing on Canon Cameras.

Hi. Just a quick question. Can you recommend a reasonably cheap wireless soldering iron? My gas powered one has broken.
can you check with a termo camera what is drawing 170ma ?
Yeah I plan to revisit this one when I get time:)

'on their last legs' 😂 Love it 👍🏻
You can try and turn on the camera when long pressing the play button.
I did try that unfortunately and nothing
Oh, and fix whatever you want, I'll watch it.😊
While applying power to board try to slowly heat up the bga chip see if that changes anything
Oh Phil, if this video wouldve only been out 15 years ago when i needed it to fix an old Kodak camera lol, but at least if i can find it in storage i can fix it now 😅
Tony said V1 lol 😂😂
Maybe check the manual, or a watch a review vid, if the battery LED is supposed to be red.

Hi Phil. Just wondering how do I go about a repair on an xbox one x. With a story to it. New subscriber to your content good work keep it up
This video comes in the right moment, since I want to convert a Lumix to full-spectrum!
Try some contact cleaner on the connectors
Will we have a part 2
Phil try to repair another TV for the LULZ m8 that was hilarious and it's been awhile 🤣
How about a video on beginners guide to UART on PS4 PS5 with links to the files?
I already have that here bud: ruclips.net/video/2SBLJbeZi7w/видео.html

Why not first clean sensor?
Your next video series should be, trying to restore the cheapest Rolls Royce in the UK.
I think that it already has been done by "My Mate Vince".
@@DracoMcGuyverI think he knew that

Try to get a second one and try switching the screen.
Get one from cex
Let’s see if you can fix a CB Radio from the 80s
Before I finish watching . My guess That IC chip is a likely failure point with water damage .
Do you wanna come collect all my tools and electronics I have spare? All free, I am leaving.
Where about are you mate?
do somw more MacBook
Videos of coffee spilling on the work bench or the COD3R breaking TVS trying to fix them😂😂???
Fix a broken car key
I actually have one of my own which isn't working that I could try to fix lol
That's Will be a good video
What a shame
