Parenthood is one of Ron Howard’s more underrated movies since it doesn’t get brought up in conversation as much as Backdraft, Ransom, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, and Cinderella Man
@@Omar-wq9dz Agreed, it's a shame that it's never included as being one of Howard's best films, but I really enjoyed it a lot.
Surprisingly good film for being a familiar trope, family movies.
Same goes for John Hughes and she’s having a baby. It’s always kind of pushed to the side but as time goes on I find myself liking it more than the teen comedies.
Steve Martin was hilarious in Parenthood.
Speaking of the cast, another Ron Howard movie with a great ensemble is The Paper. It’s one of his more under appreciated films, and stars Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Robert Duvall, Glenn Close, Randy Quaid, and a small role with Jason Alexander
The Paper and Parenthood are my two favorite films Ron Howard directed. I remember seeing both in the theater. Summer of '89 was a great summer for movies!
You have to feel sorry for Cool, for being abandoned by his dad. But then again, he's better off with his loving grandparents, and extended family.
The Cool storyline was Robards’ character redemption. It was his second chance after being a hard working absentee dad
Yeah Tom Hulces character was a real screw up but like you said, he was better off with his grandparents.
I thought it was good that grandpa was honest with Cool when he told him Larry would never come back. It was the right thing to do.
I don't even have children yet, but this film always makes me emotional, and fills me with the joys and trials of parenthood.
I remember reading on this movie’s IMDB trivia, Helen Mirren said something like that when she saw it
I love this movie. One of Ron Howard's best
Worked at a theater showing it back in the day and I still have the memories of the audience LOL or crying through the showings.
Its wild the amount of good movies mentioned and the low price of them compared to all the crappy movies and high prices now.
Classic movie I can rewatch ANYTIME ! So many memories, Thanks Mom And Daddio ❤❤❤❤🥺💕💕
I thought it was a funny movie as a kid but shit man that scene where Steve Martin gets advice from Jason Robards and he talks about how being a parent never stops. The worrying never stops reeeeaaaaally hits home for me now as a new father.
It is so true, you just are constantly worrying, even about the most innocuous things. Not out of any sort of obligation, a contact is an obligation. But you worry and care out of love and hope that this person you brought into the world will be ok.
Great for a double feature with Shes having a Baby.
As a parent of 3 adult kids, you never stop worrying about your kids. Are my kids all doing well, yes. But you never stop being a parent. I still remember Keanu Reeve line to this day after 30 plus years. You need a license to drive a car, but any douchbag can be a dad
My mom would always nod and say "yep" during that scene. Incidentally her name is also Helen, also had two kids, older daughter younger son, and her husband ran off to have a party. But I never carried a grocery bag of smut with me everywhere and my sister didn't get pregnant in high school.
I believe the line was "they'll let any butt reaming a$$hole can be a father" lol
Definitely a classic that I remember watching on the regular growing up. Such a great interwoven cast of characters.
I LOVE this movie! It has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. As a parent now, I appreciate it in an entirely new way. And I put this on whenever I get too stressed about my parenting decisions. It helps remind me we're all just doing g our best and that's the you can do for your kids. ❤
(Also, the TV show from the 2000's is great too!)
A friend who worked at a movie theater let me in to see Young Einstein for free. Then she let me stick around to watch Parenthood. I'll always remember it fondly just for that.
Great underrated movie
I love when grandpa says that worrying as a parent never ends. "There is no endzone, you never cross the goal line." It's both beautiful and accurate way to describe parenthood. ❤
You're missing the best line in the film! Grandma tells her roller-coaster story, then she says she'll wait for the family outside in the car. After Mary calls her wise, Steve Martin says "Oh, yeah. If she's so wise, why is she sitting in the neighbor's car?"
That is a great line among so many in this movie, but if I may submit my candidate for best line it has to be when they're driving and his wife tries to "ease his tension" causing him to have an accident. The police officer asks, "How did this happen?" and he turns to his wife and says, "Show him, honey..."
"It sure was!"
"One of those men reminds me of your grandfather."
Grandma got all the best lines.
Grandma absolutely heard them arguing, and she absolutely was trying to help. God bless her 😂
One of the best family movies it dealt with real family issues combination of everything you said
Such an underrated film....thank you for bringing more attention to this masterpiece!
Steve Martin/Gil reminds me so much of my dad growing up. He was a very present dad while being the main breadwinner and even though he was stressed/overwhelmed at times he never let me and my siblings know it. Also had a very similar sense of humor and wit. Even though I’m not a parent yet this movie holds a very special place of my heart cause it really gives adult me a new perspective on my own dad
A kid I went to high school with was an extra in the movie. When Kevin is freaking out about losing his retainer it's the boy with the blond skater haircut right behind him who spins around. He dined for weeks off that appearance.
Happy 35th Anniversary Parenthood
1989-2024
I have this movie on VHS and it's one of Steve Martin's best performances since The Jerk this is one of my favorite film featuring Steve Martin
Alongside The Man With Two Brains
also please Joblo please do a revisited video on The Jerk another Steve Martin film also thank you for this video Joblo Parenthood is my favorite Ron Howard film this film is a classic 35 years later also it had John Wick
in it that's awesome.😎
My dad and I just watched Parenthood a week ago. I have to say, it’s probably one of Ron’s best films. It’s very charming, sweet, the characters are great, and the performances from Steve and the rest of the cast were immensely good.
Damn we were eating well at the theaters in '89.. Parenthood was great, but its no Batman...lol
Before 16 and pregnant and before teen moms their one movie about parenthood (that's the name of this movie) and we all remember how keanu reeves played the daughter's boyfriend
I had this on vhs back in the day and I used to watch it every other week !!!! I totally forgot about it until I saw this ! Think I might have to watch it again to see how it holds up !!!
Classic.........period!
Lovely film!
I saw it on VHS and on TV every year
I wonder if this performance is what got Steve Martin considered for FATHER OF THE BRIDE, which is the first role I actually saw him in, and even now my default Steve Martin is a sincere but harried dad. :D
BEST CAST BEST MOVIE
I probably watched this 3 days ago it was great I saw it when I was little kid and now as an adult with children
When your sliding into home
I love Parenthood n it’s in Saint Louis which is rare.
It's funny, I live in STL and saw it in the theater at 10 years old but never noticed it was a "St Louis" movie until many years later. Looking back I have no idea why I saw this movie at 10, but I really liked it.
Great movie
thanx
For some reason, my parents wouldn’t let me watch this movie when I was young?
Because its amazing
@Chat_joblo_originals hugely relatable as a young boy who thought of his father as a superhero! When Steve Martin comes into that birthday party dressed as a cowboy could not be more my dad in essence
👍👍👍🎥
Cowboy Dan
Kinda funny now but the family actually owning/running an American manufacturing company still making SHOES in America. How quaint.
Why don't you have ads before your videos?
7:30 Acting 😏

Grand Theft Auto huh?
Imagine that name... Babaloo
Babaloo Mandel🤔
I'm confused.. If Helen Shaw died in 1987, how was she in a movie that came out in 1989?.. I'm really tired of these mini docs getting it wrong.. Helen Shaw died on September 8th 1997 at 100 years old.. Cmon guys, it all matters
He said 1997,not 1987.
I ADORE Ron Howard, but I don't like this one. It upsets me. Also, I'm a father to 3 girls (14, 14, and 5). Being a parent isn't nearly as hard as this movie makes it out to be. They're just all shitty parents.
14, 14 and 5? Sounds like they haven't lived long enough to give you hell yet lol. Just kidding.
I think the only shitty parent in this movie was Larry and maybe the grandpa. But everyone else was just doing their best.
Totally unrealistic film tho.
How so?
