People there may not be as timid as the people in the mainland, they've seen the world. There are/were organized crime families, imported/smuggled guns, drugs you name it. This was before 97. It was a very complex society. Since China now took it back, they are still not in full control because of the 50 years deal with the British. I don't know if these things are still prominent, for sure it will be less as before. Just want to put it out there, so people don't get the mis-conception. Since Hong Kong is now part of China.
