When I was kid used to go railway station alone and used to stand beside engine just to hear it’s sound. I was more comfortable hearing this rather making friends and playing with them. i loved both engine acceleration 3:32 and decelerating 4:26 sound of wdp4d ,, and also the crackling monsterous sound of engine starting 2:14. This was terrific sound i've ever heard

the cranking sound of wdp4 and wdp4d /4b are different, the cranking sound is a bit longer in wdp4 i think it is due to the difference in the hp of both the engines as wdp4 is 4000hp and wdp4d/4b are 4500hp
Duration of cranking depends on the battery voltage and the time period after which it is being restarted. However, there is some minor differences in the 'sound' of WDP4 and WDP4B/4D class locos. Difference in HP would not be the reason for that change in my opinion because, the lower 4000HP in WDP4 is due to its Bogie configuration (Bo-1-1-Bo)

Isolation switch has two positions, ISOLATE and RUN. As the name suggests, it isolates the locomotive and hence it will not make any power further. Therefore, the loco will remain in idle even if you apply notch from throttle handle. For making a locomotive move, the Isolation switch must be in RUN position.

This is because Medha based EMDs have pre-lubrication timer while Siemens EMD allows direct startup, thus, reducing the cranking time.
