  • $70 Cheap brakes on an S60R do NOT work. They warped on the highway when decelerating from 90-60, when the Semi truck going 60 mph is passing another going 59 mph...🤦🏻‍♂️
    I am absolutely astonished with how the music I randomly chose plays in so well with the moments I put it in. These things just happened:
    🎧 08:14 "theres something about us I've got to do" (wash the engine covers and charge pipe while they're out of the car!)
    🎧 09:00 "It doesn't really matter" (regarding R-ownership and affordability, because we love these cars!)
    🎧 10:29 "It doesn't really matter" again when I say "I just saved $1.80" on making a headlight wiper blade rather than buying them online for a couple bucks each.
    🎧 16:09 The song is "Achille's Heel" by Mutemath. Soren believes that the heel of these cars is how the combination AWD and poor steering racks eat tires.
    🤘🏽 16:45 "Let's get some first impressions" and I just happened to cut to the Burnout Buick
    🎧17:19 "Can't stop now, I'm the one you want" sexy soapy car wash 😏
    🎧 18:42 "The night is young the rest is up to youuuuuu" reminds me of how other videos ramble on with instructions for basic things like removing the coil packs and spark plugs. We know, you don't have to show #2-#5 at length.
    🎧 20:22 "I don't open my doors no more, not for anyone" as the door closes 😯😭

    I installed Centric ceramic pads on my S60R and just love them. Great initial bite even when cold & great stopping power...and low dust!

    In my S60R I had the 'anti skid service' msg appear & lost awd.
    I found the haldex oil was very low, so I flushed and refilled it and now my awd is back.

    When it comes to brakes, I prefer the original Volvo spec pads and rotors. Of course, we get lots of snow here and that makes a big difference. The Volvo pads have a more gentle bite, so easier to modulate in rough weather. I take my rwd 240 out when others with all wheel drive and computer assisted this, that, and the other are going nowhere. The modulation of the harder pads is much appreciated in icy conditions. Even without ABS, the old 240 stops, no matter what.

    I shopped around and found Brembos crossdrilled rotors - work great. Also, changing brake fluid every 24,000 miles on these cars if you drive it hard at all... last thing - changed out the brake hoses with stainless lines - and took up a bit more of the squish on the brakes.
    Also, I like the performance on the Bosch (oe replacement) and they are great.
    Also, to do plugs, I would pull the top engine mount bar to get it out of the way - I don't know how you got them in and out - the extra 10 minutes pulling that saves an hour folding around the bar.

    I spent $200 on just akebono pads. The pros 95% reduction in brake dust. The cons, they stop 60% as good as semi metallic. 06 S60R.

      I use akebono with slotted rotors and stop distance from 60m/h are the same as what came on the car. Have not had to change rotors again and pads last approx 100,000miles.

    For tires I recommend bfgoodrich g-force comp 2 A/S all seasons. I have done a lot of research on tires and they do very well in all conditions and have a stiffer sidewall allowing for better steering feel. Also are a moderate performance tire that isn’t very expensive. It’s what I’m doing after I get a set of sparco 17x7.5 wheels for my car.

    Did you fix your alignment problem? I’ve read on the forums that it’s an issue for a lot of owners. I’m thinking about buying a 2006 S60R I would love to hear your overall owners review of the car, reliability, cost of ownership etc.

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  6 лет назад +1

      Apostolos R I have not gone back yet, and after 6,000 they’re not likely to go over it for free. They said it was within specs on the machine and supposedly test drove it but I noticed the problem right away when I picked it up. Cost of ownership is high for the sake of neglected maintenance that I’m catching up on. I spent $250 on just fluids for the transmission, Angle Gear, haldex unit, rear differential. Brakes on my Miata cost $75 for the front pads and rotors. On this car, that barely pays for one rotor. It’s a premium on everything but it’s the price to put a smile on my face every time I want it to go fast.

    • @ApostolosR
      @ApostolosR 6 лет назад

      I see, I’m potentially going to buy a 2 owner car, 220,000km or 136,000miles, intake, exhaust, manual with a new clutch. Needs brakes needs suspension and a re-flash from Volvo for the ecu. $3,000 Canadian or $2,300 USD. What do you think??

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  6 лет назад

      Apostolos R does the AWD work? Does the 4C suspension work? If so, it sounds like a better version of what I bought!

    • @ApostolosR

      Christian Clouse ouch. I have been lucky with mine after 2,000 miles. Maybe it’s just that, luck, between manufacturing batches from NGK. Either way, Volvo plugs are a sure bet indeed. Peace of mind and almost guaranteed not to have any manufacturing problems or running issues for a small price increase.

    • @henryjew569
      @henryjew569 6 лет назад

      I have used Bosch Platinum plugs in my cars since they first came out and have not had any problems. All cars the plugs will go at least 100,000 miles before needing replaced. Well worth the cost.My Volvos love them.

    • @ic8658
      @ic8658 5 лет назад

      I ran NGK in my S60 2.5T and same issues. Took it to my trusted mechanic who specializes in Volvo's - and he berated me for tossing anything other than OEM into my vehicle. Once we put in some much cheaper OEM plugs into my vehicle it was fine. I quizzed him on this and he never quite clarified it for me, as I was wondering if my NGK's had not been gapped correctly.

  • @rex_s80

    With your brake pedal does it feel a bit jerky when trying to move from a stand still? I have an internally leaking master cylinder and when I start moving from a standstill the car almost jerks as the pads don’t return in sync front to back allowing for load on yet front wheels until the back finally releases. It’s very quick but easily noticeable in an automatic. Not sure how to check in a manual tho.

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  6 лет назад

      Rex Nihof it feels pretty normal in that regard

    • @rex_s80
      @rex_s80 6 лет назад

      David Bello then it was likely just the fluid then and so you should be fine. I’m having to source a master cylinder for my car and so far it’s 200$

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  6 лет назад

      Rex Nihof you’re saying this is normal for these cars? To be able to compress the pedal to the end where it hits the floor? During normal and even emergency braking it doesn’t even need to be pressed half of that distance. Maybe it’s a volvo thing?

    • @rex_s80
      @rex_s80 6 лет назад

      David Bello well if your master cylinder is leaking it will depress that much but if it’s fine it shouldn’t do that. When my cars brake fluid is ice cold it won’t the master cylinder doesn’t leak and my car triggers the abs at 1/3 depression and is very nice feeling. But as soon as it warms up the fluid will leak internally on my car. So I’m in need of a new one. Hopefully that isn’t the case with you

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  6 лет назад

      Rex Nihof will is sink the pedal with moderate pressure? I’m wondering if I just need to bleed more (I used up that can of fluid pretty quickly so I didn’t bleed as much as I like). Because it really feels more like I am compressing the fluid than bypassing fluid through seals. I think my next step is to do the rear brakes and bleed everything again.

    This is not true about the coil packs as far as autozone goes. The duralast 5 pack coil pack is the right size and specs for the R. I have been running them for over a year now and have lifetime warrenty that you DONT have to mail in. I ran NGK’s but in all honesty the oe sparks are much better. Especially in a high hp application such as i run.

    I found an S60 R, 6 speed in Canada with rusted Strut Tower mounts. After digging into the issue it looks like this is a common problem with S60's and other models. Does this mean that the car is close to the end of its life? How big of a deal financially is it to have this issue repaired?

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  5 лет назад +1

      Jay Pietersen yeah I’m afraid that’s a common P2 issue, but if you can do it yourself or find a non-dealer with a friendly shop, you may get it repaired somewhat affordably. The real kicker is if the tears are rusted too. Those are much harder to service. Any car can be kept on the road, it depends how much it’s worth to you to do so.

    • @spannersautoandcomputerser1649
      @spannersautoandcomputerser1649 5 лет назад

      Sure - it is Canada. In the US that is not a common problem

    • @Eastsidegeorgiaboy
      @Eastsidegeorgiaboy 5 лет назад

      If the 4c suspension is shot, you are looking at massive repair costs. Especially if you go through the dealer. $4000 is what I was quoted by the dealer for the job. $2000 for parts and $2000 for labor. Monroe makes the oem shocks for this car, and is much less expensive for the exact same part. Its your best bet. If you can do mechanical work yourself, and you dont buy the overpriced Volvo 4c shocks, you can get front and rear 4c for $1100. Buy all or most of your parts from FCP Euro. They have a lifetime warranty on all parts.

    • @Eastsidegeorgiaboy
      @Eastsidegeorgiaboy 5 лет назад

      Plan on spending around $2000 if you buy from fcp and get a good independent mechanic to do it.

      All lights can be prgramed with VIDA. The drls were probably disabled previously. You can get it changed at the dealer for about $200, or you can go to an independent shop and pay less, or they may do it for free.you could also just buy and install the VIDA program to your computer and program your lights yourself.

      especially if you like highways, the R can hit 200kph easy and weight 3800.. why cheap brakes?
