It would be nice if they could make them lighter, though.
I bought a 250F in March. I’ve put a lot of trail miles on it since then. Not a fast or peppy bike, but it’ll get you up any hill or through any hole. It’s pretty heavy compared to other 250 cc bikes too. It has a lower center of gravity, which makes those tight corners ridiculously easy. I wasn’t too keen on having the electric ignition, but man, it sure is nice being able to just push the button and go. Especially if you stall on an uphill climb. The suspension is a little softer than I’d like, and it will bottom out occasionally. One other downside is that you have to be in 1st or 2nd gear with your ass way back in the saddle to get the front wheel off the ground. That makes for a wet ride when you’re trying to go through a puddle. the stock exhaust is super quiet, which is a plus for me, but not for others. It gets ANAZING fuel mileage, and it even has a low fuel light. The fuel injection system makes for a quick throttle response too. Overall, I’ve been very satisfied with it. Great video! Honda needs to make a dual sport version of this bike so they have something trail worthy to supplement the 450L. The 250L is a great machine but it’s really more of a true 50-50 dual sport bike. I think a lot of people just want something street legal to connect trails that doesn’t cost 10-12K.
@@KB3AOL I had a CRF250L for a few years and it is an extremely capable machine. The biggest problem with the 250L is the weight and even with mods and upgrades it doesn't feel like a dirt bike. My point was that we need more trail oriented dual sports on the market - bikes that feel like trail bikes but that you can use to legally connect trails. Think XT225 or DR250... bikes that weigh around 260 pounds that aren't enduro race bikes but can tear up single track and OHV trails.

Bought this bike brand new this spring, put fat bars, new grips, took the foot peg mounts to a machine shop, had them modified so they would fit scar racing pegs. Also just put on the FMF power core 4, can tell the difference in power right away, can pull wheelies in third gear. Ow
The 250F is definitely a big upgrade to the 230F I’m looking forward to buy one when they get into Costa Rica . I’ve had a 250L for a while so having a lighter bike is a plus!
To all watching this video and considering purchase: If you are 5 foot 11 inch and taller THIS BIKE WILL BE WAY TOO SMALL FOR YOU I am not referring to engine size being 249cc I am referring to its actual over all size. Im 6'1 and sat on one (2 of them actually) in person at a honda dealer... my feet were flat on the ground and my knees bent almost 90 degrees. This is a VERY SMALL BIKE. All these yoitube videos do not give you a true sense of its actual size. If youre between 5'6 and 5'10 max this bike will be an excellent fit. Ive sat on one in person and this bike is freeking SMALL. not to mention it has a very mushy sloshy suspension. Meant to be helpful here.
Thanks bro that actually just saved me lmao I’m 14 trying to get my first bike only problem there is I’m 6’1 as well.. What would be a good starter bike for someone my height?
I am 6’3 230lbs and even though my feet are flat I don’t mind it at all. Makes it easy for dabbing on the trails. Will eventually raise it a little but maybe by just making the seat thicker but overall it’s still not as bad as you make it sounds.
I've shared way more fuel with experienced riders than newbies. Experience often leads to casual prep because I've been there done that mentally. New guys are super busy checking every thing every time being overly concerned about fuel.
I dont know if it will happen to you but it did for me. As soon as i hit 1 year on this bike i couldnt start it on first gear even with the clutch pulled in it has to be on neutral
@@Dugks I have the new 2019 CRF250F installed the Yoshimura full exhaust considerable change in power but way to loud for my liking so i put the stock exhaust back on,i might try the FMF Quiet Core 4 muffler only,i want to keep it Quiet, reduce some weight and look better than stock exhaust.
Rick Boudreau the FMF is not too loud. I just got a 250r and the stock muffler seem louder than the FMF on the 250f. Just make sure (when you repack it) to pack it correctly. Otherwise it is so loud, I learned the hard way
I'm 30 5'9 220 ish, I had the 230 when I was a kid I loved that thing, this is a nice upgrade, it ran good for old carb scooter, these new ones are sweet, I'd buy one it's got plenty of power for a weekend warrior, I can barely keep up with the expert guys anyways, I'd rather put around on this.
they brought back the xr250 basically added everything we ever wanted except they kept the 1980s forks. Would be cool if they made new versions of all the XRs patterned off this.
IIRC when these guys did their 5MOH challenge on cheap bikes the similar TTR230 was the winner. This SHOULD be a good reliable trail bike for many people as long as you don't need to go fast.
5:38 Do these 'wrap-around' Tusk D-Flex Pro hand guards clear the stock clutch lever on a 2020? And/or do you have a link to a shorter clutch lever? Thanks.
Can the 250F handle larger riders and clear table-tops/doubles on the track with stiffer springs (get correct sag) and "Racetech" mods to get better valving / more adjustability? I personally don't race and I like the low-maintenance engine, but I also want to build jumping abilities.
Kawasaki just announced the KLX230 - fuel injected with a dual sport option. I wish Yamaha had something like that with the TTR230 that was dual sport other than the XT250... even though I really like the XT.
Each Adventure what do you think of the klx300r? The reason I ask is I’m slightly over six feet tall and spacing 200 lb with riding gear. I’m afraid the crf250f would just be too small for my frame, though I like everything about the bike.
Good luck with yamaha. I love yamaha I have my own yamaha and I personally think Honda has better trail bikes especially for newer riders because some yamahas don't have E start
4:05 Inseam is key, height doesn't equate to inseam, there are 6' + riders with very short inseams, and very short riders with longer inseams. Not that height is a very poor indicator, just that inseam is much more relevant regarding seat height.
How would the FMF Quiet core 4 compare to the stock exhaust, sound wise ? i put on the Yoshimura full exhaust, big difference in power gain but WAY to loud for my liking so i put the stock exhaust back on and now selling the Yoshimura.
Can ya'll tell Odi to make a throttle cam for this bike for their lock on grips, maybe they'll listen to you guys. Def recommend fat handle bars for this heavy weight, bent stock and a tusk 7/8 handlebars on small falls, thus been buying lots of grips :(
I have a crf150r and I love how aggressive it is in the trails with the acceleration and being able to pop it up so easy, I was looking at the 250f but is it somewhat aggressive and easy to pop up like the r's or really dull?
Hey I’m 6’0 205lbs do you think I would have a good fit on this bike? Just hearing you were 5’7 and your feet are just touching the ground for it to be comfortable is a little off putting. Any help would be much appreciated!!
Great looking bike, especially with the upgrades, love the bare/silver rims. I wish they made an air cooled, adjustable valve, lightweight bike very similar to this, and this size with a bit more hp, closer to 30hp , emphasis on lower to mid range torque. I would expect to pay quite a bit more without complaint.
The clutch is NOT hydraulic, and, even in 90 degree plus, I've had zero problem with it being cool enough to continue running through the Black Hills of South Dakota...even the more technical, steep, and rocky areas.

Didn´t you guys installed the tusk handlebar protection upside down in the center side? if you fall and crash, those things will break your wiring, isn´t it?
@@rmatvmc ok yeah, I understand that, I was just saying based on my experience, when you fall that part tends to rotate up, if you have wires in the the U part , all those will be pulled, and there is a risk of damaging them, upside down, you can still use the space for what it was designed for, with less risk, but thanks for your clarification!
Cool bike, good review. I don't exactly support promoting louder exhaust I think we need to keep altar quiet to keep the sport going. I don't know any dirt bike guys that can ride one totally pinned and say wow I could use another 3% horsepower.
No as that is EFI doing it's job electronically measuring how much fuel you need. :-} In theory, you could start out in Death valley and climb to a 10K mt and the bike would never hiccup like a carb bike as the computer is always monitoring and adjusting the proper amount of fuel. Carbs are slowly going away of the dinosaurs with dirt bikes and its about time!
So I’ve been doing research for a trail bike and I’m set on the crf250x from what I’ve read, but people on RUclips say to go for a crf250f, y isn’t the f not as good as the x??
The 250X is also a great trail bike but is a lot different than the 250F. It really depends on your experience level and what riding you plan on doing with the bike. The 250X is based off the CRF250R motocross bike and has a taller seat height, adjustable suspension, and a liquid cooled engine closely related to the race bike. The 250F is still a very capable machine but is not as performance based and more geared towards less experienced or smaller riders. I would also recommend finding ones for sale so you can sit on both and see what you feel more comfortable on.
Both are great bikes but very different. The power of the CRF250F will be a lot more welcoming for new riders but the suspension is is not meant to be pushed on a motocross track. The CRF150R is not the best beginner bike but is a lot better setup for riding track.
So I’m a big kid I’m 6foot1 would this bike be a good size for me? I have a crf125 big wheel right now and I think I’m too big for it and I’m looking for a new bike. what would be a good size for me?
Chase is 5'7" and fits just fine on this bike so with you being 6'1" you may even be a little big for this bike. But if you currently have a 125 the CRF250F would still be a great upgrade for you until you're ready for something like a 250R.
I’m 5 foot 11, do y’all think I’m too tall for this? I’m not a very experienced rider so I don’t want a powerful bike, this is the biggest trail bike they make I guess. Really don’t want to get a competition bike to learn to ride on
Honda lost some riders attention when the new 250f came with a 5 speed transmission seeing that the bike it replaces has a 6 speed. I never liked that the 230f had drum brakes in the rear. Ultimately I wish Honda would offer a Light Weight, High Performance version with a titanium frame. Also a light in the front for great night rides. A rear running light / brake light built into the rear fender. I hate following riders without brake lights. It’s way safer to judge distance and to let riders know when you put on the brakes. Also to make it street legal a pair of some super small low profile led turn signals. I just want it for trail hopping without any issues with law enforcement. I’d never use the bike for commuting.
It's not built for racing so I would say no. The F actually stands for "family". These bikes are built for recreational riding and trails. The power on this compared to the R model is very different. - Chase

Tag this in South Dakota. My uncle just did his yz250fx and we live in Ga
Agreed. I wish Kawasaki would have plated the klx300r, too.
To all watching this video and considering purchase:
If you are 5 foot 11 inch and taller THIS BIKE WILL BE WAY TOO SMALL FOR YOU
I am not referring to engine size being 249cc I am referring to its actual over all size.
I'm 5'11" + 220 pounds...this bike will be too small ?! Been looking at the Kawa230R, which has 2+ more inches on seat height..
Drumtwo,
Can't you just Change.the suspension to something like the R, I'm 5,6
I am 6’3 230lbs and even though my feet are flat I don’t mind it at all. Makes it easy for dabbing on the trails. Will eventually raise it a little but maybe by just making the seat thicker but overall it’s still not as bad as you make it sounds.
Chase does a great job on bike reviews. Thank you.
I've shared way more fuel with experienced riders than newbies. Experience often leads to casual prep because I've been there done that mentally. New guys are super busy checking every thing every time being overly concerned about fuel.
Have the fork tube guards always been on the 4t Hondas. Looks retro to me.
Yea they were on 230fs also
I bought this as my first bike and broke my clutch lever with in the first week. I ordered those hand guards right after😂
I dont know if it will happen to you but it did for me.
As soon as i hit 1 year on this bike i couldnt start it on first gear even with the clutch pulled in it has to be on neutral
@@anglegrinderlover994 Kickstand sensor killing the ignition. If your kickstand isn't down then try replacing the sensor
Great review.
Hey Chase do you have a street legal kit for these yet?
Thanks
Really wish these came with headlights like they do in other countries.
Finally I was waiting to hear this bike with an fmf
Have the fmf powercore 4 on mine and it's a game changer sound wise, recommend it.
Dugks I have one on my ttr 230
@@Dugks I have the new 2019 CRF250F installed the Yoshimura full exhaust considerable change in power but way to loud for my liking so i put the stock exhaust back on,i might try the FMF Quiet Core 4 muffler only,i want to keep it Quiet, reduce some weight and look better than stock exhaust.
Rick Boudreau the FMF is not too loud. I just got a 250r and the stock muffler seem louder than the FMF on the 250f. Just make sure (when you repack it) to pack it correctly. Otherwise it is so loud, I learned the hard way
Is the only difference between stock exhaust vs aftermarket the sound? Or and performance change.
Right on! This bike would be perfect for that kind of stuff!
This isnt a youth rider bike, this bike is great for everyone
It’s a beginner rider bike. Easy to ride and maintain
i’m 14 n 5’1 tippy toeing it, but it’s a great bike!!

they brought back the xr250 basically added everything we ever wanted except they kept the 1980s forks. Would be cool if they made new versions of all the XRs patterned off this.
IIRC when these guys did their 5MOH challenge on cheap bikes the similar TTR230 was the winner. This SHOULD be a good reliable trail bike for many people as long as you don't need to go fast.
I have the 2020, it’s a fantastic bike for me to learn on. I just wish SOMEONE would offer a hydraulic clutch for it.
Did you have to buy a remap with that slip on exhaust .???
do one on the crf 150f
Good review. I’m 5’7” 180. Getting into trail and light track riding. I think this would be a good bike for me.
I hope Yamaha and Kawasaki make some cheaper$$$ trail bikes that are fuel injected.
They are cheaper than race bikes
Good luck with yamaha. I love yamaha I have my own yamaha and I personally think Honda has better trail bikes especially for newer riders because some yamahas don't have E start
I have been on a 150f for the past year and really considering sizing up
4:05 Inseam is key, height doesn't equate
to inseam, there are 6' + riders with very
short inseams, and very short riders with
longer inseams. Not that height is a very
poor indicator, just that inseam is much
more relevant regarding seat height.
Did you have to add the EJK or another fuel tuner to go along with the fmf?
Yesss bring back the air cooled bikes!!!!
I am 13 5”11 and ride a YZ250 2 stroke and a crf250r
I'm 5'9 230, I like being able to flat foot, I just don't know if it have the power, and it's heavy.
How would the FMF Quiet core 4 compare to the stock exhaust, sound wise ? i put on the Yoshimura full exhaust, big difference in power gain but WAY to loud for my liking so i put the stock exhaust back on and now selling the Yoshimura.
They need to upgrade the suspension rather than the motor and frame those were good
Great vid, is the 250 F same dimensions as the 250 l , I read that L is heavier 315 lbs , does the 250F look smaller? Thanks
just picked this bike up for my 13 yr old son. upgraded from the 125 bigwheel. my son loves it.
that's awesome!
Can ya'll tell Odi to make a throttle cam for this bike for their lock on grips, maybe they'll listen to you guys. Def recommend fat handle bars for this heavy weight, bent stock and a tusk 7/8 handlebars on small falls, thus been buying lots of grips :(
I’m trying to buy the exact same exhaust as yours for my crf250f
Where do I buy one ?
What is the name of the exhaust ?
The exhaust on this bike is the FMF Power Core 4. Check the link in the description for all the parts we used on this bike!
Could you upgrade the suspension?
About time its EFI
What is the skid plate you got on this bike ? I’ve been looking for one for the CRF250f but can’t find one
I have a crf150r and I love how aggressive it is in the trails with the acceleration and being able to pop it up so easy, I was looking at the 250f but is it somewhat aggressive and easy to pop up like the r's or really dull?
I j sold my 150r now I’m trynna get this bike
Hey I’m 6’0 205lbs do you think I would have a good fit on this bike? Just hearing you were 5’7 and your feet are just touching the ground for it to be comfortable is a little off putting. Any help would be much appreciated!!
electric start, but does it have a kickstart option? I run batteries down all the time. This would be a great bike for my girlfriend.
As of now, I'm not aware of any kickstarter option for the 250F.
No kick start, electric start only, buy a battery tender, hook it up and the battery will not go dead
Great looking bike, especially with the
upgrades, love the bare/silver rims.
I wish they made an air cooled, adjustable
valve, lightweight bike very similar to this,
and this size with a bit more hp, closer to
30hp , emphasis on lower to mid range torque.
I would expect to pay quite a bit more without
complaint.
Is the clutch hydraulic and how well does the air cooling keep the engine cool?
The clutch is NOT hydraulic, and, even in 90 degree plus, I've had zero problem with it being cool enough to continue running through the Black Hills of South Dakota...even the more technical, steep, and rocky areas.

When will you guys offer upgraded wheels, rear and front disk guards, and front fort guards for this?
Call up Woody's wheel works, I'm sure they could lace you up better hoops and spokes on the stock hubs. They built my XR600R wheels and they have held up to a beating in the Rockies compared to the stock wheels.
Is there a newer video where they say vertically challenged more?
😂😂
How does the power compare with the 96-03 XR 250R?
XR250 @22hp.
CRF250F @22hp
Suspension travel is less on the new bike.
Electric start only now.
Seat height is lower.
When Honda discontinued the Xr250r it's replacement was the CRF250X
The CRF230F & CRF250F are more closely related to the XR200r
I'm 6'2" 130 pounds. Would it handle me alright or should I look into the 450?
At 6’2 and 130 the only thing you should be handling are more sandwiches!! Eat something for Christ’s sake!
But seriously tho is 6'2 an acceptable height? I'm 6'2 and want to pick one up tuesday when the shipment comes in at my local honda
Didn´t you guys installed the tusk handlebar protection upside down in the center side? if you fall and crash, those things will break your wiring, isn´t it?
The handguards are installed correctly. The "U" shape on the inside clamps is designed to give you room to run your cables and brake lines.
Should be able to swap the suspension for CRF250X suspension for a truly versatile bike.
Cool bike, good review. I don't exactly support promoting louder exhaust I think we need to keep altar quiet to keep the sport going. I don't know any dirt bike guys that can ride one totally pinned and say wow I could use another 3% horsepower.
@rockymountainatvmc would you recommend this or the klx300r?
This
Would it be good for me I’m 5’10 and 13 and never had a dirt bike
Will the Tusk handguards shown in the video fit the stock handlebars of the CRF250F?
As long as you get the correct mounts you shouldn't have any problems putting the D-Flex Pro's on your stock bars.
Can you guys please do the Yamaha ttr230 you said you would do it in the comments on the video where you built the crf 230 but you haven’t done it yet
chilly cheeze beefcakes😂
Any issues with the FMF since it's fuel injected and you can't tweak the carb?
Is there weight savings on the parts you added?? Thx
The pipe probably saved a little weight but we didn't weigh the difference. Everything else was weight added.
I'm not a weld 6:00 snob but geezzzz.
I was gonna get it but, only electric start? Just another electrical thing to worry about!
I have a 230f and its estart only but its really reliable never had a problem but i did have my doubts at first
CRF150r or CRF250f for shorter beginner rider…….? (Leaning more towards an eventual track ride) 👍🏻
Both are great bikes but very different. The power of the CRF250F will be a lot more welcoming for new riders but the suspension is is not meant to be pushed on a motocross track. The CRF150R is not the best beginner bike but is a lot better setup for riding track.
Thanks ! Keep up the great work 🤘🏻
So I’m a big kid I’m 6foot1 would this bike be a good size for me? I have a crf125 big wheel right now and I think I’m too big for it and I’m looking for a new bike. what would be a good size for me?
Chase is 5'7" and fits just fine on this bike so with you being 6'1" you may even be a little big for this bike. But if you currently have a 125 the CRF250F would still be a great upgrade for you until you're ready for something like a 250R.
Thanks that helps a lot
I’m 5 foot 11, do y’all think I’m too tall for this? I’m not a very experienced rider so I don’t want a powerful bike, this is the biggest trail bike they make I guess. Really don’t want to get a competition bike to learn to ride on

@Bob Cali I have the bike has a ton of hours on it. The chain is probably fine now
Honda lost some riders attention when the new 250f came with a 5 speed transmission seeing that the bike it replaces has a 6 speed.
